Happy Christmas Eve, guys [and Claudia]!

Stan, that's great news on that upgrade! Let's see...a 4x8 in N scale would be like having a 15x7 HO in terms of the track and scenery you could fit on it. Share your track plan with us if you can, when you've drawn it up...

David - that's a neat 'barter economy' arrangement your LHS boss has setup. I've been keeping an eye open for similar trains-for-service opportunities to finance my addiction-er, hobby.

RT - welcome back, been doing more 027 stuff lately eh? Vicky wanted me to put a "Christmas garden" on my layout too but unfortunately theres too much construction-related clutter [and nowhere near enough time] to do one this year:( ; but next year, nada problem!

Steve - that must have been a spectactular video of the slag dump, I'm guessing it's a Detroit-area steel mill if CN trains (former GTW) are serving it. I toured the Zug Island works in early 2003 and was amazed to see a front-end loader driving right on top of the glowing hot cinders, scooping them up and dumping them into a semitrailer. Kibri has a model of one of those with the protective steel mesh over the tires, and of course I simply had to get one...:o I've set aside space for a slag pit on my layout.

. . .
Merry Christamas everybody!

Ken i remember the post you did with the FEL, neat job,,,
anyways, the house is tidy at last, ready for the bearded one to do his delivery, i hope he's got my SD38's, 96 ore cars and blast furnace in his sack,,Mmmm wishfull thinking i recon
David working for trains sounds great, it would suit me.

Hi all, hope you are excited and ready for the big day. It's pouring rain here and suppose to last through the night. That's ok though, as I would rather it be raining than shortsleeve weather. Kinda makes it more Christmas like...I know...I'm weird that way.:D

Eric: You don't know how many times that I have thought about opening a hobby shop that would include online business. There just doesn't seem to be enough action in this area to support it. Even a break-even would have been good enough for me. I could do like some and say, "I don't have it on my shelf, but I can get it from my warehouse (Walthers) in about 4 days."

Stan: Glad your moving forward and yes, the extra space will be like an empire.

David: A hobby shop like that in my area would be like train heaven for me. Wow! what a grand setup for an employee or a customer.

Steve: You best get into bed quick. Santa will soon be there!

RT: Glad you were only just taking a short break from us. Its good to have you here. Don't let that Lionel run into a package.

KenL: If you hear a freight tonight, don't be alarmed...it's only Fergie making his rounds.

Merry Christmas!
Grinch..."Maybe Christmas, I think, doesn't come from a store. Maybe Christmas means a little more."

Well, Santa has done his drop and the kids are still asleep in bed at 7.30am, pretty good going i recon, just rang Nicky at work, the nurses didn't get a break from 9pm last night, there were loads of Drunk idiots to spoil things for them, anyhow she's due home soon
have a great day folks

MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL.....Sitting here drinking coffee, waiting on everyone to get here so we can open gifts. I hope Santa left me some trains under the tree. I know he left Hunter ( my grand son ) some trains Thomas, Annie and Clarabel. I guess we'll be playing...uuhhhhh I mean running them today. :)

Everyone have a great day !

Stan.

What's up fellas,
Just thought I'd drop by and ask a question. Has anyone else had trouble
today getting on this forum? A few times today, I get a message saying
that the connection was refused. Then I got a page that said that the site
might be down because of problems or for routine mantainance.

After that, I got on with no problem and then the next time I got the
connection refused message again. And now I got on with no problem.

I like this forum because it is always fast loading... unlike some other forums that I don't think I need to name.;) Just curious, Dave

Bob posted a message a couple of days ago and said there might be some outages because of routine maintance. This is the best time for that to happen because the traffic is usually slow

Thank God it's only routine maintenance! I couldn't get on this afternoon. Tried several times over the course of 2 hours. I thought we had been attacked by a Christmas troll!

Santa was good to me. Power tools! Now if I can only decide on a track plan and clean out the back bedroom, I can get started on "The Dream Layout".

The rest of the night is on my tab. Set 'em all up, Flo!

Darrell, quiet...for now

Yeaoh! Wasn't sure what happened to my cyber home. Figured (hoped) it was maintenance time. Glad some of you have your second wind back. I love the season, but I am always glad when it is over.

Everyone at my house had a very good day with lots of joy and laughter. I got my new Craftsman drill press that I've wanted for years and that put me on a cloud all day.

Hope you had a joyous day!

Indeed we did, glad you enjoyed yourself Rex. Nothing like getting new toys big or small!!

It's back to work for us at home here, then back to work for me next week ( for a holiday)LOL.

Enjoy your Holidays!! Ken.

Good Morning Everyone,

Flo that sure is a nice new ENGAGEMENT ring:eek: . Is it from someone in here;) ?

Thanks Rex, we did have a wonderful time. Got to give the nephew his new 'Uncle John' Lionel set. I lettered the caboose with his name and now he thinks he's all it AND a bag of chips:rolleyes: ! We had to drive in freezing rain but it wouldn't be Christmas without that.

I wish you all A Happy New Year and have a fun week playing with the new toys:cool: .

Johnny

Good morning folks!

I too had some problems getting the site to come up, but really, I just wanted to see what everyone got for Christmas :)

I am off to get some work done, back in the web business (not sure if that's good or bad) and then to the Train store to work (that's a good thing) and bring home some GHQ n scale kits, ordered the bobcat on a trailer kit, now I can get that memorial park work going ;)

Merry Christmas everyone and a Happy New Year...

Howdy all,,
hope you all had a great time over the festive period.
Fergie you are a hero doing what you do (and i don't mean painting trains pink), your job takes you to some COLD places, i went on an 8 hour cod fishing trip today in the Irish Sea, it was a very good day with loads of fish to take home but it was a very very cold day, i have a thermal floatation suit and was frozen to the bone, it makes you realise what you saltys have to live with.
Got to dash,,,the boys got a rally Scalextric slot car set and it's ready to go

Steve: Hero NO! Fool Hardy... Well maybe.

Hope you all had a Merry Christmas and were able to push yourselves away from the table.

Ken: Were you able to put your coal to good use?

The 2-10-4 Beast is tearing up track and looks mighty handsome despite colour variations.

Well I'll be in later

Fergie

Well guys just got done buying 4 more Box cars for my train layout 2 different Penn central one bar of maine and one Tidewater Southern (couldn't resist that one seeing I live in the tidewater area) (or what was ) ($65.00 including shipping and insurance ) And get to go see the lionel layouts to die for I think he has 3 layouts in a 2500 SQ Foot downstairs

Hope all had a good christmas or are having a good Hanukah (sorry if I missed spelled that all)

I've acually gotten a few deals this year I couldn't resist so can't say santa was good to me this year lol

Good morning everyone,

Hope you all had a great Christmas (and judging by the posts so far it appears most of you did)... It's been an extremely busy 3 days, since my sister-in-law from Alabama is visiting here with her family and my time has not really been 'my own'.

I just read the news about Johnny! I'm still in a state of shock, I hope the damage wasn't too extensive and that his doctors can prevent any recurrence of this type of event.

Well, as is usually the case, my Christmas gift inventory did not include much train-related stuff [since my family members are all essentially railroad-illiterate] - but I did receive a nice pair of whale-belly propane tank cars to use with one of my planned lineside industries, plus a copy of Tony Keoster's Realistic Model Railroad Operation.

Fergie - the coal came in quite handy as firewood is so hard to find around these parts (panic reaction to high natural gas prices). And as for the flatcar, I thought I saw smoke coming from one of the journal boxes so I had to park it in the RIP track and due to a labor shortage it may take awhile before I can investigate & repair  ...

. . .
Running late, gotta go, C-ya!

Ken, great book, I think I have read mine 5-6 X's already :)

I just got word I might be able to snag the 6 car covered hopper set from Intermountain, their BNSF with speed lettering :) when they arrive at the LHS, I think I may have to add more siding capacity for the grain elevator.

HELLO anybody HERE?????? The only near train related present I gotsed was two of those red kerchiefs the engineers have to wipe thir hot sweaty brows. My fav though was the six pack of DVD,s my youngest daughter got me of the Red Green show. over 20 hours of those mad cap guys from possum lodge was the highlight of my weekend. I just love the saying "if the girls don't find ya handsome at least let them find you handy" and "duct tape the handmans best friend" . Well gotta go "keep youir stick on the ice".

Ugh...Ugh...Oh, Hi Larry! Thanks for waking me up. I just dozed off for a moment:o Flo, better get me some coffee quick.

Things have been kind of slow around here. I guess everyone is playing with their new toys. Other than taking care of what I neglected last week, that is pretty much what I have been doing. I managed to get my drill press set up, but need to make a good bench for it at just the right height. I tested the chuck to see how small of a drill bit would chuck down and it held a #72 just fine. That's a heck of a range...from 1/2" to a #72.

Fergie: I appreciate and like the drill press very much, but considering our huge gas bill (largest utility bill ever), a load of coal would have been welcomed:D . How about a photo of your new 2-10-4. Just make it a black and white and we won't have to see the wild colors.

KenL: Nice to know you have some good 'ole home folks visiting you.
