Larry, that's really interesting about losing 10 lbs - most people gain weight when they quit [increased appetite?]. I was doing alot of physical work in those days so I guess I burned off whatever I might've otherwise gained. As for "keeping the throat cool" - I gave up the booze 2 years before the tobacco, I originally wanted to quit smoking right away but was warned that I'd put myself in danger in drinking again if I did that so soon. [Nowadays my only beers are the 'virtual' ones in places like this!leghome said:Ken I quit smokin in 1981 or 82. ... Lost ten pounds the first month. ... Did not need to keep the throat cool after I quit so did not drink nearly as much.
Well, Chip, if the local HFS doesn't have it I bet I know who does!SpaceMouse said:Ken, tell the person to take Kudzu root. shoud be under $10. It will help with the cravings. You should be able to get it at your Health Food Store. I'd call before driving though. Not all of them carry it.
Rex and Stan - I feel your pain! I still remember that nice little wake-up "buzz" I would get, lighting up with my morning cup of coffee; sometimes even nowadays I sub-consciously raise my thumb and index finger to my lips. What pushed me over the edge, was being surrounded by non-smokers [many of them attractive women] in my job as a warehouse manager in a health-food distribution company. I got tired of feeling like an outcast [this was over 20 years ago, before all this obnoxious anti-smoking 'morality' became mainstream.]
Sorry to hear that Carey, at least I'm glad you were able to retire. I feel sorry for these guys who got computer science degrees and staked their whole professional life on I.T., only to lose their jobs and have their occupation vanish from under them almost overnight. I'm telling each of my kids to go into a business that requires them to be in physical proximity to their clients/customers, NOT something that can be done over the telephone wires.Cjcrescent said:Ken;
I was primary support person, super-user, network admin for the OR where I was also a PON ... Prior to retirement, since I had no formal training, just OJT, I went back to school to get some credientials. Graduated two weeks before I retired. Took a month off and started looking for a job in PC's, networks etc. Haven't found one yet, and that was three years ago this month...
