My dad used to take a rolled up newspaper into the bath to "fight of wildcats". I never saw any. Now I know what happened to them. Snake got em.

Carey: Gads! You should be ashamed of yourself. Complaining about a few little holes to dig. I sure hope you didn't work up a sweat...you didn't get any real dirt on you, did you? See you and the guy from Texas Wednesday evening, 7ish. Oh, Thanks for helping find stuff yesterday.

HHHHHAAAAAA :D Actually if you ever get to "dig" in my front yard, you'll make the discovery that I did shortly after moving in. I have about 6" of "good" soil. Meaning the rocks in it are only the size of your fist. At 8" you may hit hard sandstone, shale, coal, iron ore, or just plain ole rock. At that point to get anything to grow a hole has to be dug with a pick to see how "crumbly" it is. If that spot isn't any good, (can't crack it with a pick), then ya move over a couple of feet to try again. :( Most times to get anything planted, since I live on the very top of a ridge, it takes four to five tries to find an area soft enough to dig out, dump in potting and topsoil and plant something. And BTW, got a whole lotta dirt, mostly rock, on me, nyah, so there! :p

Carey, if you hit coal, be sure and mark the spot. You may need to mine it this winter if natural gas goes as high as they say.;)

We have 0" of topsoil. It's literally all clay and shale; kinda weird for a former farm in the middle of PA. At any rate, it makes digging anything a pain. We have boulders about 4 feet across in the backyard that the excavators pulled out when we put an addition on the house. We've learned over the years that the original contractor that built the house had a reputation for cutting corners (like installing windows with one nail, using fiberboard instead of plywood on the outside of the house, not insulating the corners, letting outlets hang unsecured in the wall, etc.), but it's hard to believe they would've backfilled with that...

this is the beast in the pan, imagine what could have happened if you had been sitting on the pan at the time, (snake)yum yum dinner up (poor sod on the pan) GULP-AARHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Sure would have cured a bad case of hemorroids! Ouchie!!!

Darrell, sitting pretty, and safely!, but quiet...for now.

Darrell;
I bet that "snakie lick" as Bill Cosby said on one of his comedy albums would've been enough to send someone into orbit!
Rex:
Already though about that son, already thought about it. Unfortunately city ordinances forbid the mining and the burning of coal within the city limits. Afterall we's be a cibilized citie, thats why if you rent a house or an apartment here, youse ain't even allowed to have a barbeque grill of any kinds, charcoal or gas. Youse might burn yer house down, and youse ain't smart enough to prevent that from hap'nin. (Nevermind nearly EVERY house here has a fireplace. Aren't some ordinances clearly stoopid.

Flo, give me a cup of hot chocolate before you close. Need to celebrate my promotion from switchman to brakeman (How did that happen?).

Where is everyone? Ah! What the heck;it's time to retire to the sheets. The best, everyone.

It goes by number of posts. You can also change it to whatever you want under your "user CP" (link towards the top of the page).

Morning Loco lovers. May your signals be green throughout the day.

Now I better get some caffeine before I get really sappy.

Good morning all, rather nice Fall day here in Central Nova, worked on the CB&CNS GP9 and hopefully it should be ready for the Weekend Photo thread.
Y'All have a great day

Morning Flo! Big cuppa joe. make that about 4 cups. Need to put 'em on my joints. Rex, I had one of my IGG treatments this AM and boy does it feel like I been worked over by a baseball bat. Charles and I will be there as soon as possible after he gets off and eats. See ya then!

Hi Yall,

Not feeling very inspired today - even with caffeine. It's hard to be motivated when bean counters are telling your company directors to outsource all their computer work to people in mud huts on the other side of the globe [yeah I'm a computer geek]. Too bad I can't change careers into something MRR related (can't support a family on it).
Oh well maybe if I can avoid thinking about my job tonight, I can start latexing the bare surfaces on my layout - last step before putting on the trains.

(No snakes in my toilet - just gurgling septic tank monsters)

Thanx Steve a beer would do me good right about now. I was cheered somewhat when I was asked to be a 'sponsor' for somebody here at the Lab who is trying to quit smoking [I gave up that wretched addiction 21 years ago, thank God!]. They are pairing-up smokers who want to quit with former smokers who have quit. Hope I can help this person, I don't have any 'secrets' to guarantee success.

BTW My work is not with PC's, but with corporate databases :)

Ken I quit smokin in 1981 or 82. Walked into FOE 174 here in Anderson Indiana threw the pack on the table and have not had one since. That was about the easiest thing I have ever done. Only three times have I wanted a smoke since that time, twice when I was working an assembly for GM and the other I cannot remember. Lost ten pounds the first month. Cig in one hand a drink of something in the other. Doid not need to keep the throat cool after I quit so dod not drink nearly as much.

Ken, tell the person to take Kudzu root. shoud be under $10. It will help with the cravings. You should be able to get it at your Health Food Store. I'd call before driving though. Not all of them carry it. :cool:

Ken, that's a great idea having a former smoker as a sponser to quite smoking. After 40 years of puffing those things, I need to quit. I gave up alcohol 20 years ago (too much partying) and always swore that tobacco would be next... Just can't seem to find the handle.
Chip: Kudzu root? That's interesting. I'm glad that mess is good for something. I'll have to look into that.

Ken;
Hope you don't lose your position to someone with a mud hut. I was primary support person, super-user, network admin for the OR where I was also a PON (Plain Ole Nurse) for the last 12 years I worked in a hospital. Prior to retirement, since I had no formal training, just OJT, I went back to school to get some credientials. Graduated two weeks before I retired. Took a month off and started looking for a job in PC's, networks etc. Haven't found one yet, and that was three years ago this month. Nobody wants to pay for any experience at all.

I wish I could quit smoking, guess I could if I set my mind to it. I gave up the alcohol ten years ago. Back then I only smoked when I drank, then I quit and strarted smoking full time. Smoke more at work than I do at home [stress I guess ] This may sound crazy, but Sunday is my only off day and I don't smoke at all, but come Monday that's the first thing I reach for, a cigarette. I think I really need to quit.

Take care.

Stan.
