This seems to have worked pretty well for a "base". Certainly saved on cutting up foam and the mess associated with that, as well as time - I think. Am going to need MORE plaster though :(

You ever tried plaster cloth? I tried it for the first time on the last layout and will never look back.

Just cut squares, dip in water and apply. You can do a bunch of hard shell in a very short time.

I started out using plaster cloth and discovered that it was darn expensive way to cover anything so I went to plain ordinary Lowes 25 lb 15 Minute Set plaster. I have to mix it BUT it is cheap and goes a long way as well. In fact, I need to get some more today :)
This side of the pond it could mean Tony has cut his finger!😱

David

Oh yeah - it would wouldn't it ... nope, no cut finger just need the white messy mix it yourself stuff for my scenery - hills and stuff :)

Six to one half a dozen the other. I have been using this Pro Form Plaster stuff for ages and like it. It is cheap, available and dries hard and quickly so not much time sitting around waiting for things to happen :)

Absolutely Tony. I'm going to try to avoid WS stuff for the most part. It doesn't fit in my budget. I need to save money for rolling stock!!!!!
Once you realize that there are plenty of alternatives to the over priced woodlands stuff you'll never use or waste your money on it again. As you said, keep it (your money) for other things were there aren't alternatives :)

But you can get holes, and you need to not buy it from a modeller supplier but a medical supplier to save a lot on cost
