The “Give Tony Grief” Thread

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

Awesome!! Thats got be a good feeling!
Yeah it was good after the first few laps. The first few laps were a bit hesitant and jerky but once the little Amtrak got going, it ran pretty smooth not withstanding some rather large (in n scale terms) gaps in a couple of the tack joins. All in all, I am reasonably happy with things at the moment :)

I have the mast and dwarf type signals on my layout but use them only to indicate which route
is selected on a turnout. Neat to have them change colors as the turnout is thrown. Makes
things easier in the yard area visualizing train direction when there are multiple turnouts in the
same area.

It also falls into my grand scheme to have night time scenes on the layout.

The red signal shows the turnout is thrown against the diverging route on the right hand track. The green indicates
the straight through position is selected.

I use Caboose Industries ground throws with switch contacts to control the signals. Makes for an effortless method
to change aspect colors on the signals as the turnout is manipulated.

Wiring schematic for the signals. A red LED from one signal is wired to the green LED of another signal and are wired to one side
of the Caboose Industries ground throw. The green LED from the first signal is wired to the red LED of the second signal and
are wired to the other side of the ground throw. The center contact on the ground throw is wired to the negative side of a 12 volt
DC power supply. All of the LED anodes (positive side) are wired together to the positive side of the 12 volt power supply.

View attachment 167091The above photo shows a similar wiring arrangement using dwarf signals where two tracks merge.
Nice, I don't use ground throws, as all my throws are powered.
I simply put a SPDT switch under each throw lever, each switch then mirrors the lever above it. But wiring is different in that I have to run the ground wire back to the switch, so lot's of extra wiring, think I need to investigate this myself.

Mmmm seem to be manual only, ah well, a nice thought, for a while at least.

Mikes idea wins out - hands down!!!!!!!!!! Now, where can I get a Laser Cut Pub Kit from??????

That area is 22" X 17" so I am going to need a pretty big Pub to fill it I think :) Think I need to give it some elevation and some rolling hill type stuff with a few buildings mixed in - one being a PUB!! :)Maybe a river running through it with the PUB on it's banks or similar ??? I odon't know, wish I hadn't cleaned it off, now it is going to annoy me 😁
