Some ho modelers being too rigid

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

The layouts I run on are all based on particular prototypes in particular eras, so they run with appropriate locomotives and rolling stock.

But occasionally we have a "run what you bring" (in terms of locomotives, we still run the same ops) session, where all kinds of crazy stuff can and does show up, and it's always fun to see what is going to be there. I've run my Algoma Central GP7s in 1990s south Texas, and Ferrromex AC4400CWs in 1970s northern Ontario.

If the layout owner invited you to "bring your favourites", the other guys should not be complaining here.

Ok, I just had to add this since no one said anything.

As strict as these guys were being, they should replace their locomotives electric motors for mini steam and diesel ones! 😃
Or better yet! Build a time machine, go back 50's or 60's and just get a job as a engineer! Then everything will be porotype! 😂🤣

I'm kind of in the middle. While I do try to be reasonably realistic, I like some of the fantasy paint schemes whether it's railroads that never actually owned that particular engine or train car, stuff painted for freelance railroads, or the old promotional paint schemes like the ones you saw in trainsets back in the day like Tootsie Roll boxcars and Coca Cola tanker cars. I also have some cars and engines that are foobies. Granted I do try to keep everything in the 1980 to present era and stuff that would appear in western Pennsylvania as to me I just cringe at the idea of a steam locomotive pulling a double stack intermodal train, GEVOs pulling wooden reefers and boxcars with roofwalks or the Super Chief passing through what is supposed to be Pittsburgh. Also, because it helps cut down on a lot of those "gotta have it because it looks cool" impulse buys.

That said if the layout owner is cool with people running modern stuff on his transition era layout but they don't like it that's their problem. They can start their own club, host their own sessions, or go elsewhere.

Awesome! Guess they had an opportunity. Sounded like the diesel was working it as well. The current director of steam or whatever that office is called is not like Steve Lee was (or at least the impression that I got from him as I watched the UP channel as they were building the Big Boy). Steve used to drive the Challenger hard.

Btw the guys that were upset have told Us that we are not invited to any run sessions that they may be having because they have strict rules of what can be run on any of the sessions they have. They said they would come back to our sessions if we abided by their rules.

How do you guys think that went over?
You guys still talking to them? haha

My way or the highway. People like that can exit.
