It melted, it was my brothers, donated after he did sonething, I think his wife made him donate before he burnt the house down

I have caused flat tires using a hot knife
Added some of the process also

You’ll notice some of my techniques look better than others, as it was a learning process I. Do not upgrade them as I use it for my learning cycle, even mistakes have their uses.
This one is basically ok but I could add more and finer detail, this was usually down to sourcing better kit.for fine details.

Different parts of the world have different humidity, I did have a link to a wet reactor, I really should have photo saved it for proof

FYI if there was paint, you often get the original color then a faded colour, first paint-first paint mixed with white
Then a two tone rust,it can be one tone and realistic but two tone and realistic for me had more effect,
Although people Like TLOC who works on commissions from specific photographs copies the exact tones on the real thing.

I like stuff like oil drums because they come in different colours so paint,faded paint, rust usually my preference is two tone, and then oil spill and dirt and maybe even grass if abandoned long enough.
I usually work from reference but I can work my colours as I want them, my layout my rules

The other thing I see and am fascinated by it, an example is on this thread,
is the could have been rail company (steampunk but with more realism)
in as much as a person likes the idea of a time,a place and a livery, and they enact it. I personally think that is totally cool.
of course the earlier you are in this type of project
the more people have confidence to try to knock you, because it is not yet perfected, they will throw mud and insults full throttle.

Just ignore them, carry on and when you get a bit of the layout to a nice photographed level shove it in their face
The more tolerant will love the journey. From the start, hopefully you find enough to not make you want to hide in the corner

Yeah, I haven't changed the coupler on my smokey joe as it is too much work to cut that metal coupler off. I just converted a wagon to do double duty.

Some more, and I like good reference pictures
Painting from memory is not as good to my mind anyway
Rider and horse statue was too pale for my liking and once I had proof of a better finish…l
I was also pleased with the wood dye

I don't have much to say here, only one thing ok maybe two. If you want your railroad to look a certain way then go for it. But the one thing I don't understand is the graffiti decals. I know it's prototypical but man it's ugly. On the real railroads it's a shame to see a consist coming down the rails and all you see is graffiti on the cars which takes away from the video or pictures you're trying to take (at least to me) and then people that want to put them on your models? And think it's cool or something. To me just makes it look like you just don't care about how your trains look. Weather them up and leave it at that, is what I say.

But to each it's own too. Have fun out there and keep'em rollin' my friend.

I agree with your point on graffiti, i think it's disgusting generally and i very well remember the time on American railroads, when graffiti was really a New York subway thing.
There is much wasted talent though on many of these freight cars. This beauty was spotted in Wyoming about three years ago in the Powder River Basin area:

Maybe not technically all perfect, but definitely a lot prettier than Mona Lisa.
