Terry, I'm farther behind than you. But I've been the stay at home parent, then adult student, then adjunct professor, then self-employed author for the last 30 years.

Fortunately, my wife makes good change, and invests wisely.

We're at the point where I've scaled back my author travel significantly, and am watching every penny going out. I need some more years of higher income to up that SocSec payout in four years. I've been able to zero out my income most years or show a very modest profit to keep the Infernal revenue off my back.

In other news, the cat is back outside watching the chipmunk highway .

Here's some funnies for your wednesday

Morning all,

68° and mostly clear, turning cloudy later with a good chance of rain through tomorrow.

On the work front, I almost have all the backup issues straightened out. Still have the go live issue to resolve, but I still think it's an issue on the vendor's side. And since I wrote this, they have it fixed.

Good morning from my little world in Wisconsin! Another nice unseasonably warm September day. It’s currently 59f/15c heading to 85/29. Predictions are no rain until next Tuesday.

Taxes! Let’s just say our property tax bills in Wisconsin are high…

Terry, best to you today

We are heading to the downtown Farmers Market this morning and maybe brunch. We pulled the garden beds before we left on 8/16 for our travels and she didn’t like any of the produce at the grocery store the other day. My sugar free chocolate stash was borrowed for the last slot car event held by the grandson. There are 4 kids that are diabetic that race with the group. So instead of having candies with and without sugar he just puts out sugar free to prevent any issues. Today at the market the chocolatier who makes my chocolates will have them at the market for my pick up

I have super mixed feelings about yesterday’s house search. There are no “lake cottages” where we were looking. They were full blown houses and of the 4 we looked all were better, nicer and bigger than our already too big current house. Terry has some good reasons why but we don’t agree. We’ve had the vacation house before and it’s way too much work and waste of time traveling back and forth. We had the SIL and daughter over last night for a discussion and they are all for is getting a place but even at just 90 minutes away it’s time they don’t have. They suggested one of the lakes surrounding Madison but when I said I’d be up for doing that and we could be full time there there was silence! I got them good. Terry loves being a few miles (3) from the grandkids. Even 10-15 would be too far. We’ll see as I know this saga has just begun

I will be at my workbench this afternoon

Enjoy the day

Good Morning All. Clear and 71°, might hit 95° today. Only made it to 94° yesterday. Cooler weather on the way with increasing cloudiness starting tomorrow.

Finally picked up the Accura yesterday morning after waiting 5 days for one part. Tailgate now works and the windshield washer tank doesn't leak. The mysterious noise that my wife said was present, that I never heard to begin with, may or may not still be there. The guy at the repair shop heard it and thinks that it is the windshield gasket, but they don't do windshields. He put some kind of sealer on it, but since I drove it home, I don't know if that helped. Meanwhile, the Lexus started telling us that it was due for maintenance, got to get that scheduled since it's still free under the 1-year free maintenance plan. Other than that, I cut and stacked more of the year-old firewood and puttered around the yard until the pool beckoned. Glad that I didn't shut it down around Labor Day, as the water temperature has now risen to 85° in the afternoon.
More of the same yardwork today. I might even start to load scrap metal into the Accura for the trip to the recycling center now that the tailgate stays open. But first is that dreaded dishwasher

I did accomplish a couple of things out in the train shed yesterday, nothing significant because time was limited. I did finish assembling and weathering that derelict handcar from last week.

It will be added to other junk around a repair shop that is still in the planning stages. The pile of wheels and air tanks is a plaster casting from an unknown manufacturer that I have had for years, and the rest is just junk parts that I have accumulated.

I'll be adding more weathering once I set this scene up whenever.
Another project that has been languishing in a Ziploc is some figures from a Preiser unpainted figure set that I purchased 25 years ago. The problem is/was that I had these 6 figures, 5 had their arms unattached, and I misplaced the box that they came in; and I couldn't match the arms to the proper bodies.

During my search for the sanding sticks last week, I found the box with the picture on it.

So I can now complete the set. I already have a place on the layout for them. Yesterday I touched up the blue paint and I will now complete them. The drum set that I have doesn't match the picture, but I believe that I have enough to complete the mini-scene. Not sure if I lost something or if they just don't match. I have two less drums but I have an additional highhat cymbal. Stay tuned. Probably won't complete the actual scene for a few more weeks, but I will finish the figures now.

Troy - Sorry to read about your friend Jim.

Everyone have a wonderful Wednesday.

But you have a lot of taxable property. Here in Jersey, a ¼ Acre improved lot in a development costs a fortune... Imagine what it would cost y'all.

I was reading the January 2000 Model Railroading Magazine, through the new Scale Trains link. The editorial by Randy Lee reflected on the divisive nature of the Bush - Gore election and resulting accusations of voter fraud et. all. Sounded so much like today without the extreme violence.

Surprise! The forecast is now calling for a window of potentially heavy rain...from Noon through 0200 tomorrow. Ten days ago we had 5" of rain...But the TV weather people keep making references to a mythical drought!

Tropical Depression #7 has formed in the central tropical Atlantic....

Time for another cup of coffee.

Everyone at corporate got a Warn notice this morning.
We have been assured we are being retained, I’m still going to look around and see what’s available, because I’m not stupid.

Terry, I know its a uneasy feeling, but it could be a blessing in disguise. When our shop got bought out 5 years ago we all were on the edge. In the end, we all are better off than we had been under the old regime.

Good morning folks. Turned the A7C off this morning. It's just too nice out to have the house closed up. The dewpoint dropped since yesterday too, so 92°F this afternoon might not be so bad. Currently, 71°F/62°F.

Paid bills this morning and did my grocery shopping. Was going to get a haircut today, but I'm going to put it off until tomorrow.

Nothing else scheduled today except waiting on my groceries to be delivered.

Terry, praying for you here for today.
@chadbag go to a gunstore and tell them you need gun cleaning brushes, they are made in nylon, stainless and bronze and are narrow to fit in small spaces.
75 here today, supposed to hit 90 again. Back is complaining, might try to get into the chiropractor.
Y'all be good and may God bless!

Good morning all!

Happy Hump Day!

Other than laundry and some other light housekeeping duties, not much else going on here!

Volleyball game last night was a win! I wasn't so sure, We won the first set and totally gave the second set away with sloppy
play. They did take care of business the third set.

Have a safe day everyone!

Need help from the brain trust.

I want to add some more lights to my drop ceiling to light up the upper deck better. What is in the ceiling now is easily moved, I just need to get some replacement ceiling panels. I couldn't find the originals when I installed the puck lights during the pandemic. So getting rid of the older panels is on my "someday" honeydo list.

That one that is at the end of a panel and not centered was positioned above my hobby desk before I moved the layout into that corner. (It can move, and I don't mind trashing a panel if I need to.

QUESTION: I may not put up valance to hide the lights. I'm debating on centering in each panel as one normally would. Or positioning centered over the layout itself. As you can see, that would put the rightmost row of pucks near the long-brace for the drop ceiling.

I've already got the pucks, just need to pick up a roll of romex to add to the existing run.

Thoughts or suggestions on positioning?? Am I going to end up adding a Valance to hide the off-centerness if I go that way?
