Good Morning All. It's clear and 74° on this first day of fall around here. There's a chance for 100° today, the NWS predicts 99°; either way it will be warm. It was still 96° yesterday at 5:00 when I got into the pool which has now warmed up to a very pleasant 83°. Pool owners out there know what I mean.

Despite a half inch of rain Thursday evening, the ground was dry by noon yesterday, which allowed me to do a bit of mowing on the north side behind the train shed. Still no water in the pond back there yet. Today I'll do more over in the SW area over the septic field.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I mainly did planning. I looked at what I might put on the right side of the Hobby Shop and decided that one of Chet's structures, Augie's Ag Sales would fit in nicely; both dimension-wise and as a needed local business.

Remember that I added figures and details to this structure recently as I had kinda planned for it to go in this area.

It also allows for a parking area to the right where I need arm/hand clearance for the ground throw on the track behind it. Always an important consideration since this is the upper level.

Meanwhile on the other side of the Hobby Shop, I painted an asphalt parking lot for Betty's Diner that I posted last week.

That's the diner on the other side of the tracks.
I also pulled out a structure kit that my mother gave me 35 years ago, before her passing a few years later. It is a really ancient Atlas kit from 1966 called International Motor Inn.
IMG_0445.JPG

I didn't put it together then because it didn't really fit into anything that I had available at the time. It still doesn't really make sense, but I believe that I have found an isolated place that I can use it at. It really is international, as many of the signs are duplicated in foreign languages.

Another feature is a bunch of 2D cutouts to use in various windows.
IMG_0447.JPG

I think that those naked people on the right are really mannequins for the shop windows, although they could be used as exhibitionists on the upper floors.
Not sure if you can tell from this picture, but the instructions are so old that they have turned yellow even though they have been in the box for 57 years!

The kit itself is definitely a Faller product in it's origins.

Sherrel - When our dryer sounded like it had a load of rocks in it, it was simply a rear drum support roller, that had a few chunks that had broken off. It took longer to access it than to replace it. Hardware store guy told me that they were the same on most dryers and were also available on Amazon. They were probably cheaper on Amazon, but they came in a kit with a bunch of other parts that I didn't need that made it more expensive.
James (from Texas) - Nice picture of the Trinity Rail Express in the morning light.
Curt -
Did the armadillo get hit by a train?
No, he's standing upright. Camera angle may be a little funny.
Tom O -
We could only be so fortunate
Well technically most left for the weekend this week.
Terry -
Those of us in the affected area still refer to Agnes as The Flood of '72.
I always heard it referred to as "Hurricane Agony".

Musical birthdays today, Bruce Springsteen is 74, Ray Charles would have been 93.
Everyone have a wonderful Saturday and an awesome weekend.

Good morning gang!

55° with steady rain, looks like more of the same for the next 24-36 hours. Looks like a good day in the basement!
I still have more turnouts to make friendly, I also need to skull out the yards. Can't lay them out yet, cuz I need more Homasote and that is something you don't do on a rainy day!

Wife and #4 son got their Covid booster shots yesterday. They are both in bed with fevers and aches, Wife is nauseous too. No, not me. I passed on this round.
I wonder how the game in Washington will be on Sunday.
In a word, wet.

Great pictures David. They are so wonderful at this age. My grandson is 9 but acting like 20! Still a great kid when with his grandparents. His mom says he is growing up too fast and starting to act up. I obviously have no sympathy for her

My grandsons are both teenagers, now thirteen and fourteen. I love the look on their mothers' faces when the boys run to me to give me a big hug and tell me "I love you".

It seems like it was only yesterday we were watching the "Cisco Kid" before I took them to kindergarten and first grade.

I'm praying this storm is not as bad as Agnes was.

Be safe Everybody. God Bless Us Everyone.
TS Agnes: I was a newly promoted engineer, back then, and once qualified, spent a lot of time recrewing trains stranded by hours of service, due to the detours related to Agnes damage, mainly the collapse of a portion of the Shocks Mill Bridge. It was a mess. The Susquehanna, normally a docile river turned into a raging torrent, that flooded riverside communities and threatened downstream dams. This was on the heels of the 1971 floods of the Brandywine and Chester Creek Valleys that destroyed neighborhoods.

I have chased and rode these Alcos in Arkansas. I am actually hoping that Athearn will run the new SD70Aces they have now.....we shall see. The A&M got the 3 demonstrators and repainted them to their scheme.

Would you believe they’ve had those SD70s for over 10 years now?

Well howdy there internet peeps and those with grandsons

It's Troy again

still at the author con. Winding down. Got a few more seminars, then the "beach blowout" dinner tonight.

Here's a pic of drinks by the beach firepit. I just wrote a book about a fire pixie. I think she came to say HI and do some dancing for me.

Afternoon All,

Spent the morning at my buddy Tom's house with the normal group of friends. I got home about an hour ago. I'll be taking it easy the rest of the afternoon. Not sure what's on the agenda for tomorrow.

To everyone in the path of the storm I wish you good luck.

Smudge- Beautiful looking steamer.

Willie- Nice layout work.

Karl- I hope your family feels better soon.

David- Congrats to your grandson. I'm sure you're quite the proud grandfather.

TomO- Nice grandson photos.

Troy- Safe travels.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Afternoon all,

Day didn't go exactly as expected, I did get the lawn done and weeds hopefully killed. Laundry nearly done, but the wife wanted to get out of the house, so... Flooring ordered officially and money has changed hands. Final install with the 2 additional bathrooms and other work comes a shade above my first estimate, but we're also looking at additional 2 bathrooms since the quote. Also have the additional square footage for the carpet. Just shy of 900 sq ft. So figuring 900 sq @ $5 per ft with pad, $4500 to get carpet. I know there's always some over-run, but I think that's a good estimate to start. Now we're really looking at the tax refund for the carpet.

Oh well, time for church

When I worked in Steamtown as a 17 year old, I spent many rainy days cleaning and polishing the original locomotive.
For the really good bits, jump to 1:30

At nearly £600 it's expensive, but the Loco and tender chassis's and body's are all die cast, so not a lot of plastic in this.

I sooooooooooooo want one, but no way can I afford one :(
All it takes is a signature. 😇
