And the convention is over. All that's left is the karaoke and that ain't my schtick.

Got the suitcase mostly packed. Just need to set the alarm for 3:30 am to make the airport shuttle.

Have a safe and enjoyable trip. Hopefully, the fire pixie won't follow you.

Now get your ass to bed! ;)

PS God willing you will be home in time to take a nap before watching the Ravens play the Colts. :p

Yo! Good evening. Worst part about resuming a layout project after several weeks is that by the time you find everything you need, you're tired.

I did spend a lot of time down in the train room today. I cleared out the yards and sidings, scoped out a few additional ideas, then went on a scavenger hunt to find everything I needed. I did complete a few small touches, but none of the major jobs. It was fun though.

Ophelia has been demoted to a Tropical Depression, and her successor, TS Philippe, is headed North into the Atlantic East of Bermuda. Seems that many of this seasons storms have remained in open water.

Ophelia's latest cone of uncertainty:

Right now, it's not raining. So far today 1.97" of rain have been measured at the Manasquan Reservoir. Currently there are no warnings in effect, although a Coastal Flood Watch is in effect from 1500 to 2100 tomorrow. The wind, which has been pretty docile, sounds as if it is periodically picking up, with winds from the NNE at 10mph, gusting to 15mph. In a quiet dark house, that sounds a lot worse. By Monday morning, the storm is expected to dissipate.

CSX 1827 EB @ Aiken - 09_21_23 - Gary Pancavage.jpg

Gary Pancavage captured this CSX EB lead by B&O Heritage #1827 Crossing the Susquehanna at Port Deposit, MD, coming into Cecil County, on 09/21/23. The Millard Tidings Bridge (I-95), is in the background.

John Means got his first win in his third start since returning from Tommy John surgery. It was a thing of beauty! He pitched 7 1/3 innings allowing only one run. He held the guardians hitless through 6 2/3 innings before allowing a solo homerun. The win could not have come at a better time. With the Orioles having lost three in a row.

Distracted driver maybe??? Sad situation for the train crew as well. Ejected? No seatbelts?
The area the accident was, the type of social function they were enroute to, and the quantity of occupants of a vehicle meant to carry no more than five passengers indicates a common theme in the migrant-centric town. No seatbelts, since there weren't enough for everybody, and distracted, or ignorant driving may both have been a factor.
I regularly see vehicles meant for 4-5 passengers carrying what looks like 10 people.

Try this for overloading.

An assumption on my part and not an argument here, but the article did say Cadillac Escalade, many of which can seat 7-8 passengers depending on the seating set-up. However being from Texas with our own migrant-centric areas, I have seen what you describe way too often. And with many vehicles being overloaded, a distracted driver is the rule.

Good morning from WIsconsin. That’s tough to read about train accidents. While it wasn’t the engineer’s fault, I would think the engineer and conductor are in rough mental shape today

Troy, safe flying

We have soccer this morning (but not going) and volleyball on campus at 1. I’m in kind of shock that we are heading to VB and Terry doesn’t want to stay home and watch her Packers. When we return I have to review my 2 weathering projects and declare them finished or not. Since we are not going to the g/s soccer match this morning I have time to get to the train show and look around. I have another 45 minutes to decide…

enjoy your day

This was one of the smaller, five-passenger models.

Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and a warm 81° still. It only reached 99° yesterday on the first day of fall, and is forecast to reach that again today. Yep! The dreaded heat advisory is present again today, but the forecast does call for possible isolated thunderstorms overnight. Low-90's for the remainder of the 10 day forecast.

Pool was perfect yesterday at 84°. I'm now glad that I didn't jump the gun and shut it down after the recent cool spell. I could conceivably make it to October 1 or later. I've only been able to make it that far about 6-7 times in the 30 years that I have had a pool here.

Yesterday was household chores day, dishwasher, load of laundry, and assemble Rosie. Rosie is the Shark version of the Roomba robot vacuum cleaner that we have. Yes, Hazel is being retired and Rosie (named after the Jetson's maid) is replacing her. Rosie will be connected to our wifi/phone app and is supposed to remember rooms, furniture placement, no-go zones, and where she has gone to avoid going over the same area over and over. That was an issue with Hazel in that she would tend to get stuck in a certain area for 10-15 minutes at a time. I actually think that she had the same wifi capabilities, but they were never set up since my wife implemented her. Rosie also has a self-emptying system where she backs her ass into the docking station and unloads. The landing pad actually looks like a toilet seat cover. It will still be an annoying machine and will not be any faster than the old-fashioned Hoover.

I probably won't get much done today except wash bed linens, since Sunday Mass gets in the way and it's too hot when we get home for outdoor tasks. I'll just spend more time in the train shed or the pool.

So speaking of the train shed, yesterday I put a second coat of asphalt paint on the diner's parking lot and applied ground foam around the place and along the RR ROW behind the Hobby Shop.

Next will be striping the parking lot and replacing the stand-in Tyco cars.
While waiting for the paint to dry, I attacked the Motor Inn, assembling the walls to the main part of the building. There's a lot of windows.

Karl - Hope that the family is feeling better soon.
David - Congratulations to your grandson.
Louis - My oldest two grandsons are also teenagers, so I don't see them often any more. The oldest has a girlfriend and a beginners permit and his parents allow him to drive to her house and to school activities, both within 3-4 blocks from home. He also has his own car!
Tom O - Congratulations to your grandson as well.
Troy - I know that you won't see this unless your flight is delayed, but have a safe trip.

Everyone have a great and safe day

Good morning gang from super soggy Absurdistan!

Day 2 of never ending rain. The dog only goes out when she has to and I noticed something about her. She may stay out in the rain 5-10 minutes (using the "facilities", patrolling the fence and checking on the bunnies that live under the shed ramp) but when she gets to the door she shakes off the water outside! Smart Dog!

Wife and son #4 are better today since receiving their C boosters.

So today it's Cat box cleaning, laundry, Nascar and finishing up the last few Shinohara turnouts (the large curved ones)

Afternoon All,

Started out the day with a walk at 67F, breezy and low humidity. When I stepped out of the house it actually felt chilly! 😍 It was wonderful. Later I did the normal Sunday chores then decided I was done for the day. Tomorrow, I have 2 Ultrasounds at VA (kidneys and liver) because of significant changes to my blood values since May. It's always something.

Troy- Great photo.

Joe- Shhh! Don't jinx us with the storms to come. Nice photo.

Willie- Nice job with the scene. You're right, that is a lot of windows.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Good afternoon, it's sunny and 89.
I got something done in the train department today. I installed a decoder in an Atlas SD35. I've noticed with the past couple of decoder installs, there has been a lot of "slop" between the contacts of the decoder and the contact points on the frames. The engines are older runs, so I know it's not something Atlas did recently to the frames, so I can only guess the decoder manufacturers are making that area thinner. While it makes it easier to install the decoder, I have to perform a modification so the decoder will contact the frame, so everything works.
And now that I have the decoder installed and the engine running, I discovered the rear truck isn't meshing with the worm gear in the frame, letting the worm slip a little on the upper gear in the truck. Short term, it's just an annoyance, but eventually I'm going to have to replace that truck.

Another fine pitching performance from the thirty-five-year-old veteran Kyle Gibson. He is now 15-9 and showing the baby birds how to be a big-league starter.

The Buffalo Bills are in full stride. They have moved past not being fully ready for the regular season.
Buffalo 37 - Washington 3

The Ravens made too many mental mistakes to win against a solid performance by the Colts and their veteran backup quarterback.
Correction - Colts 22 - Ravens 19 in overtime.

Magic number at 3 since the O's have the tie breaker over the Rays!
