Chad: Soon be able to start framing and getting it enclosed. Hopefully before snow starts.

Me too

I am hoping the framers can show up end of the week to start their prep. They are only framing, to start, the basement situated bearing walls and the floor joists and subfloor for the main floor. Then we start placing more foam. The foam/concrete walls go all the way to the roof, which is vaulted, and made from beams and joists (not trusses).

I'd like to get the outer structure and the roof on this year. (It is a stretch but if I can get people constantly working on it we can make it. I have a crew ready to help me put the foam up and hopefully the next level is 2 weeks worth of work (mostly full time). It is much simpler with fewer walls, less steel, less rebar, and we have already made all the screw-ups and solved all the problems and are now experienced 😂

And Orange Chips. My gamer friend from the Black Country park of England said I should try them.

But, Mel has never heard of them.
As a West Midlands speciality, orange chips are an authentic style of chip dipped in an orange coloured batter before they are fried. Believed to have been a delicacy of the war years, they were made to break the monotony of wartime fare.

Why are orange chips orange?

The key to orange chips is all in the batter. The recipe remains top secret but many attribute the distinct orange-colouring to a sprinkling of paprika, while others claim to use turmeric or orange food colouring. Beef dripping has also been argued as being responsible for the incredible taste

Here we go....let us see how high this one will go for......

$81.00 already, too rich for me

Forgot the followup. Non-bearing partition walls and stuff like that will come later at their leisure. Just the structurally required stuff is what I am trying to get done now.

Once we get into the New Year we'll get all the internal fitting out done.

The garage pre-stressed slabs are pouring this week at the manufacturer and they'll be able to install starting next week but we might not be quite ready. Hopefully we can get the framing done in the next couple weeks to provide support for when they put the slabs down. You see, there is a big pile of dirt in front and if we can get the wood floor part in we can backfill partially in order to get rid of the dirt so the crane for the slab placement can get close enough... Otherwise we have to move whatever dirt we can't backfill somewhere...

Trying to just keep things going without lots of down time.

Afternoon All,

Started out at the VA getting a pneumonia vaccine then did a couple of chores before lunch. After lunch I laid down for a couple of hours. I normally don't take a nap but last night the wife was up and down most the night which kept me up. I was going to install the 2 signals today but that's not going to happen. Tomorrow I'll make the decision when to bring the exterior things (Tuesday or Wednesday) inside in preparation for Ian. Fun times. :(

Ken D&J- If you need the logic board and IR sensors take a look at Logic Rail Technologies. I use they're logic board and sensors for my signals.

Willie- Great views.

Troy- As someone that has been up close and personal to many hurricanes I would say your friend made a poor decision and hope she doesn't live to regret it...IMO.

Chad- That is a huge amount of progress and a lot of family work. Are the "chairs" only because of the heat tubing or is something similar used normally?

Smudge- The orange chips sound interesting and something like battered seasoned fries here.

I hope everyone has a good night.

A lot of the dirt excavated from our basement ended up as a shooing backstop about 125 yards from my back porch.

Braggart ;) 😇

(I'm jealous -- I've always wished to be able to shoot off a back porch -- I remember a post on USENET some 30 years ago about a guy in NH who could shoot off his back porch about 150-175 yards. Been jealous ever since -- my "win the lottery" drean was 500 acres in Montana with a house with this feature).

The "chairs" are there to lift the rebar and the mesh up so that it is in the middle of the concrete slab and not sitting on the bottom. Provides the normal benefits of embedded steel in concrete... Which I guess is more resiliency and stability.

Gentleman and Ladies, may I suggest we close on these subject(s) what's done is done, what's said has been said. Ì bèlieve it's time we move on.

Now, can someone explain why flo always brings me black coffee, and never has any tea and biscuits???

And why can't I get any cucumber sandwiches ?? :(
Amen.
Did you ask for tea.
I know she brings me a nightcap when I ask.🍺😵

Good afternoon. Going to have to make this short. My daughter was a big help during her stay. She helped a lot keeping things in order but now I am back on my own. I did not have to spend the night in the hospital after the surgery. He used a nerve block so no drugs were involved (until after the surgery) Got back into town and picked up the dogs and went right home. My daughter put a pillow on the arm of my recliner to rest my arm on, but Molly out it to better used I guess. I was out in no time and she slept for almost an hour. It was the first time in her life that she spent a night away from home in dog boarding. I think she just wanted to get some zzzz's. My daughter got these photos while I was out.

She also made friends quite quickly with Molly and got to play with her. Suprised the heck out of me.

The shoulder hurts like hell whick was expected as I have already had the right one done. I only have two issues. It's extremely hard to get my pants pulled up correctly only using my right hand (Try it sometime) and NO ALCOHOL so long as I am on the pain pills. I have a follow up appointment next Monday and hopefully they'll take the dressing off. Time to lay down for a while

Not sure which is cuter, you, the dog or your daughter :D

On the way over, my wife took a few pictures for me. As is usual anything taken from a moving car might be blurred which is the case with many of them. A few turned out nicely though. There's a really big bridge across the Mississippi River in Baton Rouge, where the river is 2300' wide. From the highway, it is nearly impossible to view it from the side. Here are a few approach shots.

This time we saw a big boat which we don't normally see when we cross.

Big boats can only go a little further by a few miles because the next bridge north is too low. They all must be unloaded onto barges or railcars in order to proceed.
Then in Mobile AL is the battleship USS Alabama.

Hard to get this one.

Oh, Man... I hated recovery from shoulder surgery. I went through my share of pain pills. I forced myself to eat a few peaches every time I took a pain pill. Peaches are a natural stool softener, and pain pills have a tendency to cause constipation. So I would eat a few slices of a peach every time I took a pill (like every 4 hours or so). good luck with the recovery!
