Forest Lurker
Good Morning all.
There has been a major forest fire going on near the isolated Town of Jasper, Alberta. The fire took out the only power transmission lines supplying the town, leaving the area in blackout.
I suppose all the electric vehicle drivers would have had to ride with their gas powered peers if an evacuation had been ordered. It's a full 1hr drive to the next town that might not have charging facilities, but, certainly has a gas station. - Just saying.
I didn't do too much on the layout yesterday, just started building a couple of track crossings. The work so far is mostly an experiment. Both track crossings are in 30" curve areas, so the crossings will need to be soaked in water and bent into a curve. I've made the crossings 4" long out of 1/8 square spruce.
A kerf needs to be cut on the bottom edges, so the crossings will fit properly between the rails.
I'm also painting the Caboose switch handles green on one side, and yellow on the other. The real ones around here have those colours on their flags.
I'm making green straight through, and yellow the curve. I think that's right, but not 100% sure. It is what it is.
Thank you to those who answered my road question. I'm hesitant to apply drywall mud without the screen, as I know how easily a blob of mud scraps off a concrete floor. I'm going to trust the experience of those in the know, though, and not use the screen.
The wife is home all day, so it's 50/50 if I'm able to work on the layout. She'll probably want to do something.
Have a great day everyone!
