Good evening. Clear skies all day, currently 67° Swampside. Going down to at least 62°. Made it to 77° this afternoon. Fog developing tonight. Love this nice weather.

The Orioles lost to Toronto again...mathematically, they are still in the race, 5 games out of a Wild Card spot, but also 7 games from Elimination.
Army, kicked the ***t out of Villanova this afternoon. VU 10 - Army 49. That's ok, I'm an ARMY vet.
The Mets, hold a 1 game lead over Atlanta, as they play tonight's game at Pittsburgh. Since both Wild Card teams are from the NL East, they need to get over their funk and dominate the lesser teams that have been making them look bad. I'm tired of wait until next year.

Tangent PRR G41A Covered Coil Gondola - 38" wheels 125 Ton Capacity. Added to my roster today. Looks great, heavy car from factory. Runs like a Sled. Those semi-scale 38" wheels sure make the code 70 rail look tiny.
My experience with coil cars hasn't been great. I found that if you look at them mean, details fall off. Hopefully these will prove a little more rugged.

I hope all these charging stations they plan on building would be able to charge in 10 mins. Every exit on I95 has a least 2 gas stations maybe more. This would have to duplicated by EV 10-minute charging stations. Anything over 10 minutes charging times is unacceptable and will not work. I with the guy on here who said liquid nitrogen engines are the way to go and forget about the EV's.
George
I know government advocates elec cars but they also are clueless about how we are going to charge them how we gonna run all those power lines? or build the batteries or actually pretty much clueless about just about everything. And for the rapid charging, what kind of transmission line is it gonna take to deliver that dose of electricity? Say get ten or twenty of them running at once.

Good morning to all of our de-platformed members. Temperature is 74° it's sunny and humid going into the middle 80s.

OK, so now we are committed to e-vehicles. Great Idea. I opposed battery powered tools and lawn tools vehemently, until I tried one. Now, I do not recall the last time I used a corded hand tool. I sold off my gas powered weed wacker. I still have a gas snow thrower, which was used once, last winter, and a gas lawn mower, not used since 2020, as I have a lawn service. The practicality of these tools has evolved from the virtually unusable initial battery powered drill. The same is going to happen with e-vehicles. All of a sudden they will become mainstream and gas powered cars will join horse powered carriages. All of the practical shortcomings of the day will be addressed, as these same gas stations at every exit, install self service rapid chargers activated by the swipe of a credit card. Perhaps not in my lifetime, but in the foreseeable future.

We cannot expect the government to do this, it's up to private enterprise, and once capital sees a buck in it, it will take off.

Guy: That is a very cheap ploy by Honda. If GM or Ford pulled something like that, there would be a massive outcry. Foreign corporations always get a pass. On both sides of the border.

Gotta go, time for Sunday Services, then the Train Room.

Hello again from the parking lot of a Kroger affiliated store where the wife is at a little clinic. She has a bad cough and sinus crap. She's taken 3 Covid tests since I turned positive and so far she's negative. She's the one that really has to be careful, due to her medical issues. I only have high blood pressure the dr is thinking of taking me off the meds for. I really think she has allergies flairing up. She's called, Gotta get her.

So Boris just a though. How many of those battery operated model engines do you own?

Right then. Time to ask for help.

I've been thinking about making roads on the layout. I hope to put in 'Main Street' soon, which will be the only paved street on the layout.
Tried rolled sandpaper, but, it didn't work as well as I'd hoped.

Now, I'm thinking about a drywall mud road, but, I'm worried about stability. So, I'm thinking I might cut up a 1/4" screen into 3-1/2" strips, and staple it soundly to the plywood base. Then, the screen would be filled with md and smoothed. Much like the stucco put onto a home.
Here's a photo of the screen:

The question is, is this a good idea? Seems like it's kind of a one shot or screw things up deal.
Thanks for any help!

McLeod-
Drywall compound works nicely for roads. As long as you're not
striving to make your road look like a newly paved roadway, don't worry
about any imperfections as you spread the compound. The screen is not
necessary. Any cracks and imperfections can be patched---just like on
real roads, making for a more realistic looking road.

If you could invest someone else's money in an idea then reap the huge profits if it pans out or just walk away if it flops, would you do that?
So you mean the taxpayer's money Ken? I know the word taxpayer might have this post deleted but I'm going to take that chance. I know last year I said, my wife had been taking Hydroxychlorquine for years and that got deleted. You mean taxpayers money invested in EV's that may go the way of steam cars when something like nitrogen powered cars take over?

Afternoon All,

Started out with a walk and some chores. After lunch I figured out the placement of 2 signals and the associated IR sensors. After that I cut the 5 wires per signal head to length. One set is 3 ft long and the other is 5 ft long. After the resistors come in I'll attach them then start placing components on the layout probably starting with the IR sensors.

Joe- Great looking coil car.

Guy- That doesn't pass the stink test about the Honda. I've never heard of that happening before. Nice job on the layout and control panel.

Chad- You really got a lot accomplished.

Willie- Nice job on 7-11.

Dave- Nice job on the scenery and light.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Well howdy, there internet peeps, and those rewarding their wives.

It's Troy again.

I'm heading out early tomorrow morning for my trip to St. Pete FLA. Lots of authoring and networking to do.

Got my new Hoka Bondi shoes. Supposedly running shoes. So far, they are a dream with my Plantar Fasciitis. I can walk short distances without aggravating the foot. I plan on trying a half-mile in a bit. Did about that yesterday in them with very little aggravation.

And, since I won't have much to post for a week, here are my skeleton undead horde:

And the zombies. Note Hal the Zombie in the back left. Hal thinks being a zombie sucks and wants back in his crypt.

After this army, I plan on working on Dwarves (like Lord of the Rings dwarves. Just 3D printed some shieldmaidens for the force... But that will have to wait for later. Still got skellies to paint.

Good afternoon ya'll.

It's a cool but humid afternoon. It's about 9 minutes til 4 pm. A bit of a somber weekend for me. My older sister is back in UK. She went to see the Queen today and sent me some pictures. She will be heading home this evening....well she's probably home by now since she is a 5 hours ahead of us here. We are still processing the death of my baby sister. That takes time. I checked on my mom n pop everyday. I went out Friday evening on the Hudson River in my boat to fish a little bit to try to make sense of things. Caught a few but ended up watching 3 sea planes practice taking off and landing on the river. It was cool to see that. I think each one did 3 to 4 take offs and landing. All successful of course.

Yesterday, Saturday, I stayed home and had a good day of rest that was much needed. It's amazing how mentally exhausted one can get. I did a little train therapy in the late afternoon. Spent time going over my inventory for track laying. I spent time doing a little organizing as well but have a lots more to do. I tried to cure some of my somber feelings with a shopping spree....it didn't work but I am happy with the purchases though. I think I spent around 1200 bucks. So I will do a photo dump later on the RPO thread. I ended up getting (3) new SD70Aces (UP), (1) SW 1500 (UP), (1) SD-60 (EMD demo), (1) tank car (Suburban Propane), (14) covered hoppers (mostly Western Pacific), (4) gondolas (more Railgons), (12) boxcars mostly MKT and BKTY cars, (1) center beam with a custom load (CLC), (1) 4 door thrall box car (US Plywood), (1) 68' short height bulkhead flat car (TTX), (2) 60' bulkhead cars (KCS and BN), (1) road railer UP trailer car (not sure why I bought this as it is a an Executive line by Bowser but it was a compulsive buy), Bachmann Spectrum 87901 Maintenance of Way Vehicle- Self Propelled (DCC) Ballast Regulator (great buy! 50 bucks new in the box) and a few other mechanical reefers (MKT). Yep that sums it up pretty good. The pony express will be hopping along next week with all the goodies. (2) of the new SD70Aces with sound Tsunami 2 will replace (2) that I already have that have no sound. I will place those up on Ebay to sell to recover some of the cost.

Tonight I have 3 loads of laundry going. I will chillax and run some trains I think for a bit. I didn't do much today. I did go out for a drive to get out of the house for a bit. I may watch a movie later or just go to bed early. I have to go into the office this week. Our production Manager quit last Wednesday and well I got to pick up the slack, hire a new one and that will take awhile so that doesn't make me happy. The guy that quit was with the company for 5 plus years and just up and quit. He may have gotten an offer else where. He will not be getting any references from us at all to leave us in a lurch like that. Not cool. No notice etc. Oh well.

Ya'll have a good evening. I have enjoyed catching up and reading everyone's post. Nice to some of ya'll work, progress and such on goings. Later!

She tested positive, so I'm out of the dungeon. She's out until Thursday, I go back Wednesday. So much for my Allergy thought.
I hope your wife feels better soon.
Is she vaccinated?

A good idea for pain is to alternate Ibuprofen and acetaminophen. I gave my wife one then the other every two -three hours when she had Covid. It keeps something in you for the discomfort. My oldest daughter's pediatrician recommended that about 30 years ago. It has worked for us.

God be with you.

Louis: We are both vax'ed and first boosted. We were waiting for the updated booster...surprise!!!! She was still negative last night, but positive today. This is hitting her harder than me it seems, but I've never known her to get an easy case of anything. I have managed today without any pills, but I'm technically on day 3 or 4. Day 2 was the roughest, which is about where she's at.

Hopefully the meds can get her through this.

I have to get tested next week before I go in for my lens implant surgery. We're vax'ed and boosted 3 times but we're done. No more vax or boosters for us. On my last doctor's visit the doc told me that the last booster didn't work and may compromise my immune system. I think they say there's 15% chance of this happening. My wife's doc told her the last booster didn't work and she should get the next one when it's available. She said, no more booster for her. She's also done. I don't need my immune system compromised on some untested vaccine.
