Suggestion: turn off the so called "news" shows on the TV and most radio. they all have biases. Most of the TV side is just commentary from their political side.

Remember, Nixon lost the war in Vietnam, when he lost Walter Cronkite. That was one of the few times the great man gave an opinion outside of an editorial segment. Now it's all opinion.
I rarely watch it but Terry is a news junkie. It was raining so I couldn’t go outside today. It hasn’t stopped since about 9 last night.

Walter voicing his opinion helped doom Nixon but I think it was more the nightly coverage of the coffins coming off the planes at Andrew’s that moved the nation the most. That’s what I remember especially after being billy clubbed in Chicago’s Grant Park in August of 1968 as a 15 year old idiot sightseerer. That incident made me keenly aware from then on about VietNam. Never protested but paid attention, even dad a WW2 vet changed his tune about the war. He was a Daley delegate at the convention. After my Grant Park incident and then the mess of a convention he was open to listening to other then Richard J Daley.

The endless video of people in New York City being punched or thrown on the sub way tracks has me going nowhere near the George Washington bridge on my trip to Myrtle Beach tomorrow. If you ever crossed the bridge going west, It's very easy to find yourself on some dark alleyway if you missed one of the million signs going every which way. One thing you don't want to be doing is counting your money there at 3 am.

Looks like Joe's former team handed his butt to him today.
Sure did...but what do ya want? It's da Jets. Worst team in Professional Football...Thankfully, they claim to be a New York Team, so they are not another blot on Jersey's reputation. I still have Flacco's Ravens Jersey...Don't have anything that says Jets.

NBC is moving the wife's favorite Soap to Peacock, so they can add an additional hour of News (Today Show, All Day?) to the broadcast network. Since they dropped Hockey, there is no reason to watch them.

In other news, it appears that since Labor Day, the Orioles have run out of gas...It was nice while it lasted. NHL Training Camps open for Rookies on Wednesday. Vets on the 21st. Pre season begins 9/24.

Well, howdy there internet peeps, and those who appreciate Willie's puns

It's Troy again

Got a week before I head to Tampa/St Pete for an author conference. We get together and talk wording words about wording words

Looks like we've got two days of sweater weather here in the Fort:

Just enough of a tease, then I go spend a week in Florida: Shorts and aloha shirts, with sweaters for the indoor AC

Need to head to Costco today or tomorrow. Wife baked the last batch of Ghirardelli brownies. Said I had to restock before I left for a week. Better check on Brisket. Supposed to be good grilling weather the rest of the week.

Better get some words going. Or shower if I want clean words. ;)

Good morning. Wisconsin is in mourning today as their team, the Packers lost! Worst, they lost to the hated Vikings of Minnesota. Endless loops of the primma donna mushroom loving free spirited QB saying well he practiced with the team at Camp, he just didn’t play the meaningless preseason games. I read Brady who didn’t even practice played well.

Not much train stuff yesterday. Seems after a few years together anniversary #46 coming up on the 18th is important to someone in this household. When asked yesterday what we were doing next Sunday I said truthfully, no plans, just dinner out somewhere! That went over like the lead balloon. She always tells me, we don’t need to celebrate other then a dinner. Now I have to figure something out.

Like Troy has in Fort Wayne, it’s not a nice Wisconsin day. While taking the Sunday night refuse bins out to the road this morning because there was a steady rain and winds in the 20’s last night, I stopped at the rain gauge. Since Saturday night at 8 when I made sure it was empty to 6 this morning, just under 5” of rain. It’s 46f degrees now feels like 41 heading to 54. Can you say, Train day. Yesterday was interesting, from the time I woke till I slept last night there were no breaks in the rain. It may have lessened at times but it didn’t stop falling.

Between my sister’s Parkinson’s and osteoporosis the girls are not on the horses today. But, 2 women who love to shop online planned a shopping trip for today! I don’t get it. I think a bit more in person retail therapy for trains will help me understand. The LHS 18 year celebration ends tomorrow.

enjoy the day

Morning from the SW where Gruesome Nuisance is telling us serfs what we gonna do in the future - like shut down CA's last operating nuclear power plant after more "Green" energy and storage becomes available?
I didn't think you could get more "Green" than atomic power? But then I've always seemed to buy at the top and sell at the bottom - so what do I know?

OK ... we had a REAL Thunderstorm yesterday afternoon - complete with hail, lightening, thunder, and LOTS of water - YAY. I thought I was back in WILLIE's neighborhood for a while. Officially the count was 3/4 inch, but that's measured 5 miles from me - I know the storm dumped closer to 2 inches as my yard was flooded. Todays guesstimate is: Partly sunny and warm. Afternoon breezes. 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, high of about 86°F.

Pitiful performance by the "PACK" yesterday; they let the
"VIKINGS" walk all over them.

I've decided that I will live with the miniscule A/C in the truck until the spring next year. Just do not see spending several hundred for repairs right now with fall, birthdays, and Christmas around the corner. I have about a month to get last year's taxes done and a yougee RE tax bill just ahead; going to be broke for a while!

Have a good week - everyone! BBL

That way too much rain for So. Cal. Maybe just a threat of a sprinkle would be manageable.
Changes in what we believe since Vietnam? I don't really recall what I believed back then other than to keep my weapon and boots clean. Everything else was just a matter of if I liked it or not. Once ya have a family ya start changing perspective and take on a more responsible roll.
I've been putting off making another ride out to AZ and beyond but my back issues this summer have taken the front burner. This late in the season, I think I'll have to forget about it for this year. The Steroid shot I got in my neck last Friday is just starting to set in and relieve some numbness. Yesterday's ride up to Arlington was tolerable but to put 10 hours a day on the bike, that would be a bit more than I would enjoy.
I'll surf the web for a bit this morning and cool down from my morning walk and light workout, then I'll meander on downstairs and find something to do with the empire.
