Just got back from a ride up to the Arlington National Cemetery for a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Met up with a friend from Texas whose motorcycle club was sponsoring this wreath laying today. They rode up here over the last few days to perform the honors.
Me on the left, Haole on the right.
It was a rainy kind of day. From fine mist to showers off and on. The tomb guard kept his tempo despite the sloppy weather.

Love the biker outfits I wanted to add some to my layout but the price for HO bike figures was….faints

Afternoon All,

Busy day up until now with errands and chores. I'll be gone all day tomorrow at the VA with Dad and MOH returns home tomorrow. Tuesday I need to buy the last piece of fascia, paint it and put it up.

Hughie- The roofing looks good. Did it come with the kit?

TomO- Good progress. I agree, after 9-11 everything went to hell and not just for the US.

Jaz- The photo brings back memories. During the early 70's we visited a great aunt that lived in Windsor. I remember when President Kennedy was assassinated and the period of mourning and non-stop coverage. Different countries mourn in different ways. Great looking steamer.

Joe- Nice photo. I didn't get my mag yesterday, so probably I'll see it on Monday.

Mikey- Prayers for your friend to ease his mind. I hope you and your wife recover quickly.

Willie- Nice cactus garden. I remember going to Will Rogers house as a young kid.

Todd- That day I had just dropped a patient off at the ER and was walking through the waiting room just after the first plane hit. In fact it was being reported as a small plane. Shortly it became clear of the magnitude. OFD was locked down except for service calls. I remember telling my partner that day that we were now at war. I remember later 4 OPD car's racing to the airport in a convoy.

Ken D&J- Great photo.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Well howdy, there internet peeps, those who have watched Niel de Grasse Tyson's version of Cosmos.

Yep, it shows. <fist bump>

It's Troy again.

Not much in wording of words today. Actually slept in until 6:30 today. Wife has a grumpy tummy, so no going out to eat today. She's not sick-sick- but not feeling like eating.

So, I made some more bases for gaming figures.

bases.jpg

bases are 3D printed with plastic filament. Aprox 4x3 inches. I hot glued cork sheet bits down, then added the sculptamold and tombstones. The water features will have that same purple glow for animating the undead skellies and whatnots. The ponds I have plans for several waves of skeleton climbing up out of the pond. Each rank behind lower and lower in the water.

O and here are the skellies... ready for their trip to the paint booth for primer:

That's only about 4 dozen-ish, and a couple of canine skellies too...

While the USA is still a great country it has changed IMO for the worst.
Those hate filled Saudis could never have dreamed how successful their heinous actions were. Not only did they manage to kill many innocent people, they managed to intimidate our government to restrict our "rights" so that this would never happen again on their watch.

Growing up, our teachers and politicians would tell us how fortunate we were to have freedom of movement and expression, while in totalitarian dictatrships, people were required to have authorization papers to move about. Now we need Photo ID to travel, open bank accounts, seek medical attention and other mundane tasks, because we are all considered potential terrorists or criminals. Covid restrictions made this worse, but this all started with 9/11.

September 11, was a beautiful clear late summer morning, with a slight chill in the air. When I arrived at Race St, everyone in the building was glued to the TV watching CNN coverage of a plane crashing into one of the Twin Towers. My Conductor and I left to get #89s diesels, and position ourselves for the engine change, when someone remarked over the radio that a second plane had hit the other tower. I just had this empty feeling.
#89 arrived, took on passengers and worked head end. The Yard crew added the Roadrailers of Mail to the rear. We made the engine change, and placed the inbound E-60 on the Pit at Race street. We watched the replay of the second plane crashing into the second tower, when they switched to live feed of the slow collapse of the tower. I was totally devastated watching this, knowing the implications of what I just witnessed.

Amtrak completely shut down. The passengers were detrained, and a yard crew was sent to return the roadrailers to the yard so the mail could be trucked to Jacksonville FL. A second yard crew, went over to take the train to the yard. We went to move a Metroliner to the yard. Then Washington ordered the station evacuated, so all the road crews, those stranded and those on layover, were sent to Race Street. Fortunately we had the coffee on, and they sent the prepared dining car meals from #89 over so we could eat them rather than letting them spoil. As the day went on, we had little to do, My conductor and I walked over to the now totally deserted station. Only the movement office and train dispatchers and power directors remained along with the police and some supervision. It was in itself an eerie sight, with a loud quiet. For a while, the Delaware River bridges between PA and Jersey were closed, they reopened around 1800, so I was able to drive home. I-76, I 295, and I 195 virtually deserted, just the sound of silence.

The next day, with little to do, My coductor and I walked down Market Street toward City Hall. Hard to envision what we saw, as on a mid week business day, the streets were mostly deserted. We heard the sound of jet aircraft, and since air traffic was shut down, everyone had that same look
of what now..Looking upward, it was reassuring to see a pair of Airforce F-15s with a full load of weapons flying over on Combat Air Patrol.

We were required to report for work, even though Amtrak was completely shut down for 3 days. As we walked through the parking garage, you could see the now dusty automobiles of those who would never return to reclaim them. These monuments were the only cars in the temporarily closed garage. That's my memory of 9/11.

Those F15s were more for show than anything else.
The cost of shooting down a civilian airliner would have made anyone take pause, well beyond the point of no return. That's why the suicide mission was concocted using civilian aircraft, using our trust and humanity to do as much as they did. Pretty much along the lines of bombing a hospital and calling it an accomplishment due to a high number of casualties.
If the US conducted war the way any other nation does, there would be global outcry to the unfairness of it.

Afternoon all,

Been busy working on my mechanic skills.
Putting a rear end in a recliner...

Not feeling it today, just been sitting watching a show on Acorn...daughter subscribed through Amazon, so since our sticks are linked to connected to their account, Acorn it is.

Likewise, my ire isn't with our overseas friends, but like Willie, with the news media here in the States. I should remember that they spend hours telling us nothing every time something important happens, so they can say they are first telling us when some new information comes along. So apologies and condolences to our British friends.

I'm settled into the couch with my beagles ready for the Ravens - Jets opening kickoff. I have my coffee, the hotdogs are in the steamer, nacho cheese in the crock pot and salsa in the fridge. I even have cold beer for my guests.

With the game in NY, I'm looking forward to the pregame show to honor 9/11. That is something I normally don't discuss as it brings sad emotions. This being the anniversary, it is something we all should remember.

God Bless Us Everyone

Play Ball! - I know it's a baseball thing, but I like it!
(South) Jersey Joe Flacco starting QB for the Jets. I don't follow the NFL, but I want him to win this one for the Jets...

Of course they were for show, but oh so reassuring to the folks that saw them. With all the airspace closed, no one was going to get away with anything. The barn door was closed and barred.

Your second point is very true. You can see the way the Russians and Ukrainians are fighting their war,and the coverage...frankly, neither side cares what the media and the human rights hypocrites say. We on the other hand have a different standard applied. And foolishly care what our critics say.
While the NY Times gives coverage to Russian atrocities, they are more concerned that an "innocent" family, (innocent as defined by the Taliban), that was killed by a Army drone strike in Afghanistan. They are also upset, that the Taliban has reneged on their promises to honor their women's rights, but to the Times it's more important that we go into battle conscious of the rights of our enemies. The global outcry people and the Times writers are morons!

An example of what I am referring to is the endless video being shown here in the US of people, some with flags, walking down the street in front of some castle or palace somewhere.

Jaz/Smudge - You guys certainly have a lot of castles and palaces for the royal family, Buckingham, Windsor, St James, Sandringham, King's House, Balmoral, Kensington, Holyroodhouse and some others I never heard of until this weekend.

Absolutely disgusted with the Sunday morning ABC’s Good Morning America. Terry got up turned her TV and because of the weather I am in the room. Lead story, well let’s just say the none of the 1st 40 minutes of GMA was about 9/11 but was about 1 other story. I have had real issues with her GMA fascination the last few years but this definitely is a cake topper. The world changed because of 9/11
I can sympathise with that, 9/11 was a traumatic time for not only the US but the rest of us too. I sat and watched with disbelief as T1 came down.
That should have been the lead on every media in the US, and not a story from across the pond.

Yeah we do, costs the taxpayer a fortune to run them too. Nice thing about having so many, most are deserted for most of the year, so gives us poor serfs a chance to visit them and see how the other half lives. 🤣

Exceptions are Clarence House, Buck Palace and Balmoral plus one or two others as either HRH, or one of the family, actually live there.

Good evening gang!

Lots done today on lil Red, a.k.a. the 19 year old new truck. Fixed the hvac system. It seemed no matter where you placed the controls, all air came out of the center dash vents and the defrost, hot or cold. Traced that back to some rotten vacuum hoses. replaced all the hoses going to the HVAC and cruise control. All normal now. The little engine even Idles smoother now!

Next was the removal of the rotted tonneau cover and brackets, and several self adhesive ribbon decals. This required 6 brackets and tonneau cover frame removal, oh joy, it were not only clamped on but also held on with 2 sided tape!
here came the heat gun, plastic tools and Goo Gone, The removal of the bug shield, also held in place by screws and 2 sided tape.. More heat gun, plastic tools and Goo Gone. Then rubbing compound and wax . Still have to wax more of the truck, but she is slowly coming back to life. I will strip the wheels and re-clear them when I do the brakes next weekend.

Tom
that Charles in charge pic is hysterical!

About American (or worldwide) Media
This has be a fanciful ending for it,,,,

<puts on journalism hat>

Suggestion: turn off the so called "news" shows on the TV and most radio. they all have biases. Most of the TV side is just commentary from their political side.

Remember, Nixon lost the war in Vietnam, when he lost Walter Cronkite. That was one of the few times the great man gave an opinion outside of an editorial segment. Now it's all opinion.
