George - I wish that I had more time to watch concerts. I saw many in person in the days before my hearing started going away and I had to stop going.
The Charles Ives performing arts center is only 12 miles from our house. First rate concert center right next to the I-84 interstate. Very easy to get in and out. Seen many groups there in the past but they said the insurance per concert was about $100,000.00 so they shut down a few years ago. Woodstock is about an hour away but one old farm road in and out. It takes forever to get out of the place. When there once to see Journey getting out of the place was a long as the concert. Never went back. The only place left is The Saratoga Performing Arts Center. Had many great days going to the horse races then a concert.

Well, here's today's progress. Brings to mind, from one of the Charlie Brown cartoons," It's not a bad building Charlie Brown"
Still needs roofing and wall trim and lots and lots of boards.

Well howdy, there Internet discussion junkies, of both old and new fart status.

It's Troy again.

Finally, after a month of downtime, coming to you from under the canopy. Got it back up after almost of month of heavy sun out here, waiting on the Osha-offending Amish Siding Guys.

My PhD rocket scientist author friend posted a link to a story that fits into our electric/solar/EV discussion:

Here's a snippet:

Kia’s EV batteries will help alleviate strain on grids in Europe

Kia announced the details of its new partnership with encore DB in a press release today, explaining how its EV batteries will be dismantled and repurposed for a second life cycle. Under the new agreement, Kia Europe becomes the first mobility solutions provider to officially partner with encore DB, with a goal of expanding repurposed batteries throughout Europe.

This process began with an initial prototype battery storage facility, which has already been implemented at the EUREF-Campus in Berlin, Germany. The energy storage system is composed of 24 battery modules, made up of 14 double cells previously used in Kia Soul EVs.

These modules combine to form a “Micro Smart Grid,” which is essentially a power grid in which different energy sources are linked intelligently. An integrated battery management system (BMS) helps balance the state of charge in each module by performing passive or active voltage wherever and whenever needed.

Tech and business are catching up with demand. Though it's still early in development so there will be glitches.

Tinnitus is down to a 5 on the volume knob. No NSAIDs today. That Voltaren arthritis cream I'd been applying to my Plantar Fascia seems to be a likely culprit. But I'm laying off the Lipitor for a couple of days as well to see if I can knock the tinnitus down to its past normal level.

Cooked some pork chops for the wife and me tonight. Waiting on the big red Kamado to cool down. Figured it was due for a high-temp burn-off after low and slow cooks.

Been working on making some "multi-bases" for my gaming figures. One of the games I'm getting into uses pre-set base sizes per gang of troops. And as long as you have 51% of the figures that should be there, one can make a diorama-style base for them.

Using Sculptamold over distressed cork sheets glued to the bases.

I'll paint the bases tomorrow, then start sticking some of the guys I've already got painted down, and finish the terrain effects. This is an army of undead (zombies and re-animated skeletons and such), so it's got a graveyard theme.

I have found my tinnitus goes up/down depending on the amount of salt I consume. Less salt, less tinnitus, even sometimes even I can't hear it. I quit salt in shaker on the table years ago. Only put it on eggs, steak or in mac and cheese when I cook. We pretty much do not eat canned anything so that helps. Boy, get a fast food burger - your fav place and wowser.

I did have Pizza King yesterday and (leftovers) today - and they're salty. But, they've never bothered me before.

In other news:
Well, the sinuses just went ballistic... ears are starting to get that echoey popping sensation, along with stuffy sensation in the head.

Spider bites can do that to me - got bit by something while I was sitting on the patio. Wasn't a sketter. Probably a little spider wondering what plopped down the chair it was calling it's own.
Allergies to pollen can do that... we're pretty high with ragweed and grass... both get me hard in the spring.
Or do I have the coof...?

took a fake-sudafed or whatever it is called now. We'll see if that knocks it out. My guess is a combo of spider bite and ragweed...

Winding down for the evening.
Finished adding a post in "Showing Off" section on my procedure for adding the tie down cables to a CenterBeam flat car.
I'm having second thoughts of riding to Arizona next week. My back pain has come back pretty bad over the past few days. Going down a stairway is the worst. Just sitting is OK but I don't know if this will get worse over time now.
I have to get a steroid shot in the neck spinal cord Friday morning. I'll wait to see if that helps before making a final decision.

Good Morning All. Clear and 69° with a light north breeze. While that cool breeze won't affect today's high in the mid 90's, it will keep the temperature in the 80's for a few days after.

Yesterday's outdoor tasks included shredding some more brush piles and weedeating the perimeter of the house. I'll split some wood this morning and I will mow when the dew dries around 11ish.
Meanwhile this sciatica is not going away like the doctor said it would. Most of the day it's tolerable or absent, but it flares up just before I normally get into the pool just before supper. Funny thing is that walking a mile in the morning seems to help immensely.
When I go on the grocery trek tomorrow, I need to purchase a new pool cover for the winter this year. I took the old one out and found three holes and some other potential trouble spots. The old one lasted three seasons which is average for winter covers.

Thanks for all of the reactions and comments on my ongoing progress; Dave B, Sherrel, Joe, Tom O, Karl, Christian, George, Troy, Gary, Curt, Guy, Smudge, Chad, Mikey, Rick, Tom, Patrick.

Yesterday out in the train shed, I continued with the retail store, now known as Farmco Supply.

I plan on adding an interior, so I added a partial floor and a LED light yesterday.

An interior will go at the back of the partial floor and customers will go on the front.
Besides that, I painted a concrete parking lot on the layout and enhanced the green on the backdrop with highlights and trees.

Note the additional downspouts on the front.
Over on the workbench are a couple of roof vents being painted that were left over from other Pikestuff structures, as well as a sidewalk to add. Time now for ground cover and look for a suitable interior picture on the Internet. Maybe I already have one; I'll have to look.

Tom O - Real soda sales here are always the week before a holiday. That's when four 12-packs go for $10 on some holidays or $12 on others. I haven't figured out what triggers the lower sale price yet. Other food prices are hit or miss. We get a lot of Gulf Coast shrimp here so that's still low. Chicken has exploded, pork came down earlier in the year and beef which went up during the Great Pandemic is now starting to come down. I think that pork came down due to Kalifornia's "swine crate" law and producers quit selling out there rather than remodel their entire operations. Beef went up from the packing plant closures, but is now coming down as drought is sending more cows to market. Fruit and veggies are in plentiful supply since much is grown in Texas and Mexico, but they're up due to transportation costs.
Pink Floyd is never a bad choice for the train room.
George - I wish that I had more time to watch concerts. I saw many in person in the days before my hearing started going away and I had to stop going.
Snowman - I'd leave the idea of a "What are you Listening to Now" thread up to the moderators, but I like it. I would participate when time permits. I primarily listen to rock and R&B, but I am also very eclectic with my tastes. I'm not a fan of pop, country or rap (hip-hop), but in the words of Bob Segar, "Give me that old time rock and roll". I was an early listener to Pink Floyd in the mid-60's when they were led by Syd Barrett. I also like much of the Mothers of Invention music from that time frame. I did say eclectic didn't I???
Besides being hearing impaired from loud music in the 60's -80's I also listen to tinnitus all of the time. My hearing aids are set to compensate for it and that helps when I have them in.

Today is National Beer Lovers Day. It seems like we have one of them several times a year. Doesn't matter as I celebrate every day unless I'm in the hospital!
Everyone have a great day and I'll hoist one for anyone who doesn't indulge.
Willie back in my railroad days working the Chatham switcher for 2 years our main customers were farm supply companies from Brewster to Chatham NY. Lots of covered hopper feed cars. Every town had one of these farm supply stores. They all had some kind of way to move the car after the initial spotting,

Today the plumber dudes finished up their in ground drain rough in. City inspector supposedly coming in the morning at 7am. Pics below of final piping.

Son and I started cleaning up all the C-clamps I used to hold scaffolding boards in certain circumstances (the glory of this being an owner builder without OSHA), and also the scrap wood we used to hold foam in place at seams etc and put it in the black bins. Still more to pick up. We'll re-use it on the next layer. Need to clean it up for gravel.

Also the guy who has the gravel thrower (thing that allows us to put gravel in the hole since we can't dump or anything) is checking out tonight to see which of his machines we need. If it is his "all terrain" one then we will put the gravel in Tuesday. The plumbers then need to wrap their pipes and we lay in foam insulation and I start laying the radiant piping. Once the piping is in we'll put steel re-mesh or rebar on and pour the slab.

Morning all,

61° and clear, high of 93°. Headed for work in a bit, but off tomorrow to attend a grandparents day event for the local granddaughter. Using 4 hours of vacation, but earning 5 for the pay period, so just not gaining as much.

Stuff to finish before heading to the office.

Good morning all! 55 degrees heading for 80 and humid.

I didn't make it in here yesterday. I took the time before work to finish preparing for my speech class. The kids who spoke yesterday all did a pretty good job. I was the last one to go for the day. I think it went pretty well but I talked a little longer than I was supposed to but the teacher said it was fine.
The club YouTube channel I started seems to be getting a little bit of attention. Last time I looked we were up to 13 subscribers, a far cry from the 100 I'd like to get so we can get a custom URL for the channel but I'll take what we can get.
Off to work soon. Hope you all have a great day!

Where my father worked, they had electric capstans to move freight cars back and forth along the loading area.
Here's a link to a company that sells new ones, they haven't changed in appearance much over the last half-century or so:

What is the club You Tube channel name?

perhaps you could post the link here. I'd sub just to help you get there. and, you know, there are trains, right?

Good morning from Wisconsin. It is 63f/17.2c degrees heading to 83/28.3 with calm winds and the Weed Man coming today since he didn’t make it Tuesday. The 63 also was the overnight low. The calm wind prediction will prevent me from being outdoors after the spraying is complete. I no longer can handle the smells.

The son called last night. He is flying a client to LA today. They then fly tomorrow to Scottsdale and the client has no issue if they pick up my sister in LA. He and my sister will overnight at my brother‘s in Cave Creek on Friday. With the client they will fly to OKC where they will drop the client and continue on to here. He will fly to Texas on Sunday or Monday. Good now I don’t have to go West until Texas at the end of October.

I cut some of the fascia after supper,

removed a turnout and some ground cover to create an entrance and exit to the Transload Facility.

Terry has been getting antsy around the house lately but especially after her physical yesterday. I have no clue what today will bring but I know we won’t be home much today. Since my sister doesn’t enjoy pork and loves steak I know today or tomorrow we will be shopping at the grocers. I have a few steaks but not enough for 2 meals for 2.

Enjoy the day

Good Morning All. Clear and 69° to start the day here in North Central Texas. Only expect the high today to reach 88° after 92° yesterday. The north breeze felt good. Air quality alert for the counties south of here today, around the Dallas/Ft Worth area. Shouldn't affect us up here though.

Weekly grocery/beer trek day is today, a few other stops are planned while we're in town.
Mostly a lackluster day yesterday. I did weedeat a bit, and I added layers of grass clippings, shredded brush and charcoal ashes to the compost pile for next spring.

Thanks to everyone who commented on or reacted to yesterday's post; Sherrel, Chad, Christian, Karl, Troy, Tom O, Patrick, Hughie, Joe, Smudge, Chet, Curt, Rick, Tom, George, Guy.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I added roof details (none of which came with the kit) to the Farmco Supply.

Then I added ground cover all around including across the road.

More landscaping and some weathering is next.

Troy - The brook may mask the tinnitus while it's playing, but it never goes away. I just tolerate it. But my hearing aids are also set up to mask it a bit and surprisingly it works. Tinnitus is in the brain, not the ear and the hearing aids amplify normal sounds which reduce the effect of tinnitus. A good audiologist can amplify the right range of sounds to ones benefit. Being able to hear more clearly also reduces the brain stress which in turn can reduce the unwanted noise level. In me, it sounds like constant cricket noises. In some cases, the tinnitus is temporary, mostly it is permanent.
Tom O -
When I listen to music I don’t think so much the words matter to me. It’s the blend of all the sounds to me. PK‘s Shine on … is great all round.
Another excellent example of that is Pink Floyd, again. The closing song to side 1 of Dark Side of the Moon, a song called Great Gig in the Sky, with it's non-lexical vocals by Clare Torry.
David Crosby was a good harmonizer as well as a great writer. Can't say a lot about his guitar playing or lead vocals. IMHO
Chet - Yes there will be an interior in this structure. It will be shallow with a printed background and a couple of figures between it and the windows. Although it may be a little while before I get to it as I have a full social plate ahead of me this month.
Louis - The self-propelled on the Ryobai battery electric mower does not have to be used. I mostly do not use it.
George - Regarding concerts - Living close to the DFW area, I always had a lot of choice in concert venues. Large arenas and small auditoriums alike. Access was not usually a problem. A quite memorable one was a "spur of the moment" type concert in the middle of the Rolling Stones stadium tour in the summer of 1978, when they gave an unannounced concert at the 3000 seat Will Rogers Auditorium. One Friday at noon, the concert was announced on a single radio station and tickets went on sale at 2:00. Concert was the next evening. The tickets were printed for "London Green Shoed Cowboys" so the folks at the ticket printers didn't leak the info. Opening acts were Peter Tosh (from Bob Marley's band) and renowned 60's fiddler Doug Kershaw. I was eating lunch in my car in the parking lot at work when I heard the announcement and I took the afternoon off. The best concert that I went to was at another small auditorium in Dallas called State Fair Music Hall where I saw the original Allman Brothers Band in 1971, before Duane died. They played for over three hours.
You mention Chatham NY. My dad's aunt had a 75 acre summer home in Chatham. I spent many summers there. The place is still in the family, having been inherited by a cousin. I was last there in 2013 when my brothers, myself, and many other family members and friends descended on the place and upgraded the place with new windows, drywall, insulation and electrical improvements.

House is now 172 years old.

Todd - Interesting observation about the salt. I never noticed since I don't salt my foods to begin with, except tomatoes. I'll have to listen some day!
Chad - You'll be moving in before long.

I don't know about tomorrow yet. It's our 50th wedding anniversary and I plan a surprise road trip for my wife who complains that my only social life is when I go to the grocery store every Thursday. She may be close to right. :D
Everyone have a great day today.
