Well... continuing on Snowman's question of what I'm listening to...

Tinitus

Bad enough it woke me up

Blah.

So I went and looked. New pill of Lipitor, yep, can cause/aggravate tinitus.

About 2:30 I woke, but didn't have to pee (much, anyway) didn't drift off again and realized the constant whine I hear had gone from my normal 2-3 range on the sound dial, up to about a 6, maybe 7.

Got the headphones on, listening to Tinitus Masking babbling brook from Youtube.

Here's the exiting playback (5+ hours) if anyone else needs it...

I guess we can call you Mr Jukebox Willie. I remember Junior Walker and the All Stars but I didn't know he was the sax player on the Urgent track. I like the sax a lot more than the sax at the end of the Pink Floyd's Shine On Your Crazy Diamond song. Who's the sax player there?
George
George - I'll stick with Santafewillie here. Thanks though. I do happen to be an amateur rock & roll historian though. The years 1958-1988 mostly. In addition to having over 80,000 mp3's in my collection, I also have over 2500 contributions to Wikipedia music pages.
The sax solo on "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" is by a British session player named Dick Parry. He's mostly on albums recorded across the pond and has played on several other Pink Floyd songs.

Morning all,

Was on earlier, but since I had 3 pages to read since I was on yesterday morning, I ran out of time before having to head to the office.
It was in fact a busy day yesterday, with one team member on vacation this week, and a new hire that started before I even had the paperwork from HR. That used to be more common than now, but added to the stuff that still needs to happen after every weekend.

69° and clear going for a high of 95° later. No rain expected until the weekend, and even then the models have it staying north of Interstate-70.

Snowman: I have my nearly teenage grandson remind me that I'm an "old fart", and I keep reminding him that there's no such thing as an old fart, they're all new. But I believe you are correct that most of us are in the "Boomer" generation.

And my personal HS theme song:

Then my older theme song:

Snowman: I have my nearly teenage grandson remind me that I'm an "old fart", and I keep reminding him that there's no such thing as an old fart, they're all new. But I believe you are correct that most of us are in the "Boomer" generation.
Unfortunately, I have to disagree.

Ever sit down on a padded chair and smelled the odeur des jours passés? That is an old fart. The young farts are just telling us we age as well as the odeur in the chair cushion. :)

Sherrel, if I remember correctly, your truck might not have a thermostat but just a slide lever instead that mixes cold with heated air along with another mechanical function that opens or closes off air from outside. One or the other isn't closing off the hot air.
KEN - Kinda what I am thinking. It's NOT a slide, it's a rheostat that you turn left (cold), right (hot).

Morning ALL! 74 degrees to start my day, and here it is supposed to be 105 later on.
Where we are headed to the festivities, it is advertised at 109! Yieks! I don't think that folks will hang around very long - if we are lucky - the chore will be complete before the Temperature reaches 100! I do not think The sisters thought about the fact that September is generally the hottest month of the year around here!

My music world ended with ABBA!
OK - mainly country, but NOT the whiny kind!

TROY - Mine is more of a sound that 10 million Katydids would make - never quits and the brook sounds did nothing for me!

Watching the Virtual Rail Fan web sight for Flagstaff, AZ.
Amazing number of trains passing by. Seems like one every 5 minutes or so.
When I travel out there and sit trackside or in one of the restaurants along Rt. 66 in sight of the tracks, no trains for hours.
Probably because they know how anxiously your waiting to watch the trains, and decide to make you wait :D

Good Morning!

I don't listen to music, except that which comes blaring through the truck radio. Don't own any stereo's, radio's, or ghetto-blasters of any type.
I'm content with going through life as a grouchy old fart, and I don't need to be active in any other threads. Just my own 2-cents.

As a matter of fact, I only have a few minutes to spend in the shop. My Ram pickup is going into the shop at 8am.

Trying to work on the layout when time allows. Yesterday, I built a DC control table for the small system I'm working on:
LayoutControl_09-06-2022.JPG

It's just a 10x16" table, mounted at a 15 degree angle to make it comfortable. The five toggles are on/off for the track blocks I intend to have. Want to put all the locomotives I own on the layout, and be able to select which ones are going to move.

Thanks for the likes on these simple posts! Gotta go take the truck up to the shop!

Have a great day!

Old, new or can’t fart, Good Morning. I got up this morning looked at the time on the cell phone, groaned, looked at the weather and got up. Looking out the kitchen windows I look again at the weather app, I believe the 60f/15. 5c degrees but the app says heavy dense fog with visibility under 100’. It fricking clear outside. So, I head onto the south deck, check the thermometer out there and it says 60. So, sports fans, I am sitting next to the pool looking south out the sidling doors that are closed, it’s a bit humid and 76f/24.4c in here, and it feels good.

Yesterday, the guy checking fence lines with the drone spotted a gate open. The Property Manager last night let me know the chain was busted but it’s been replaced. We get trespassers and poachers come duck 10/1 season and we have gotten deer hunters. Today we will fly the drones out by the slough and ponds looking for something! Also today the surveyor and her crew start marking out the new house boundaries to be now 20 acres instead of 10. The counter offer on the house sale was refused by the buyer but we are adjusting the fence line around the 10 to now 20 acres and some additional frontage on a county road. The house and 10 acres are still available but we have the 20 acres decided if we need to include it. Her crew will mark the fence line and my guys will do the rest.

I thought I was done on the base for the Transload Facility on the layout. Trouble going to sleep had me thinking about this and I will work on it some this morning. I feel the need to tone done the weathering in the concrete crack seams. The backdrop facade warehouse needs coloring soon and until Curt mentioned it last night I hadn‘t given it much thought. I am ready for some ground goop today!

Lots to do including heading to renew the driver’s license. The LHS is celebrating 18 years this week and is offering 30% discounts on almost everything except Athearn and Walters Proto lines. Seems both of those have imposed sales limits on how deep the discount can be.

Music! I will listen to anything except country bluegrass. At 69 years old I also have very little issues with today’s music, including rap! I still remember the 1960’s where every one older then 30 were decrying the fall of the music. Not everyone could be or like Como, Crosby or Sinatra and still can’t

Enjoy the day

edit: 1:35pm— screw the DMV. I’m in the train room. Applied a Pan Pastel ”colorless” blender to the vertical cracks with a sponge. Took my regular 1/2” blending brush and brushed each rectangle with the excess PP dust. I feel it’s better, not as dark

Bing or David?

Not really a huge fan of either Crosby (or Denise for that matter), so no clue why I asked, lol.

I love music. I find strange things about music interesting. Like how the first spoken word comes in at 8:41 on Pink Floyd's Shine on You Crazy Diamond. Most songs, especially the ones you hear on the radio, are around 4 minutes long. So Pink Floyd has an intro to a song that is twice as long as most pop songs. Splitting SOYCD into 2 pieces (parts 1-5 and then parts 6-9 after a few songs in between) was genius, IMO.

The group now uses Discord, which is a series of live, active threads...but before we moved to Discord, we had an actual forum. Among the threads were a group entitled "What are you listening to right NOW?" Each thread died out 'round about 1000 posts, most of which were Youtube links to individual songs. As each thread reached it's limit, we started a new one, NOW, v 2, etc.

Another forum I am on (firearms related) also has a "what are you listening to now?" thread

Good Morning All. Clear and 69° with a light north breeze. While that cool breeze won't affect today's high in the mid 90's, it will keep the temperature in the 80's for a few days after.

Yesterday's outdoor tasks included shredding some more brush piles and weedeating the perimeter of the house. I'll split some wood this morning and I will mow when the dew dries around 11ish.
Meanwhile this sciatica is not going away like the doctor said it would. Most of the day it's tolerable or absent, but it flares up just before I normally get into the pool just before supper. Funny thing is that walking a mile in the morning seems to help immensely.
When I go on the grocery trek tomorrow, I need to purchase a new pool cover for the winter this year. I took the old one out and found three holes and some other potential trouble spots. The old one lasted three seasons which is average for winter covers.

Thanks for all of the reactions and comments on my ongoing progress; Dave B, Sherrel, Joe, Tom O, Karl, Christian, George, Troy, Gary, Curt, Guy, Smudge, Chad, Mikey, Rick, Tom, Patrick.

Yesterday out in the train shed, I continued with the retail store, now known as Farmco Supply.

I plan on adding an interior, so I added a partial floor and a LED light yesterday.
IMG_1607.JPG

IMG_1608.JPG

An interior will go at the back of the partial floor and customers will go on the front.
Besides that, I painted a concrete parking lot on the layout and enhanced the green on the backdrop with highlights and trees.

Note the additional downspouts on the front.
Over on the workbench are a couple of roof vents being painted that were left over from other Pikestuff structures, as well as a sidewalk to add. Time now for ground cover and look for a suitable interior picture on the Internet. Maybe I already have one; I'll have to look.

Tom O - Real soda sales here are always the week before a holiday. That's when four 12-packs go for $10 on some holidays or $12 on others. I haven't figured out what triggers the lower sale price yet. Other food prices are hit or miss. We get a lot of Gulf Coast shrimp here so that's still low. Chicken has exploded, pork came down earlier in the year and beef which went up during the Great Pandemic is now starting to come down. I think that pork came down due to Kalifornia's "swine crate" law and producers quit selling out there rather than remodel their entire operations. Beef went up from the packing plant closures, but is now coming down as drought is sending more cows to market. Fruit and veggies are in plentiful supply since much is grown in Texas and Mexico, but they're up due to transportation costs.
Pink Floyd is never a bad choice for the train room.
George - I wish that I had more time to watch concerts. I saw many in person in the days before my hearing started going away and I had to stop going.
Snowman - I'd leave the idea of a "What are you Listening to Now" thread up to the moderators, but I like it. I would participate when time permits. I primarily listen to rock and R&B, but I am also very eclectic with my tastes. I'm not a fan of pop, country or rap (hip-hop), but in the words of Bob Segar, "Give me that old time rock and roll". I was an early listener to Pink Floyd in the mid-60's when they were led by Syd Barrett. I also like much of the Mothers of Invention music from that time frame. I did say eclectic didn't I???
Besides being hearing impaired from loud music in the 60's -80's I also listen to tinnitus all of the time. My hearing aids are set to compensate for it and that helps when I have them in.

Today is National Beer Lovers Day. It seems like we have one of them several times a year. Doesn't matter as I celebrate every day unless I'm in the hospital!
Everyone have a great day and I'll hoist one for anyone who doesn't indulge.

Good morning all, 63° and sunny!

I washed the car yesterday after work, they are prepping the road for a new pavement and milled all the old stuff, so we are currently driving on 3 miles of gravel. In two days, the car looks awful. Will be nice when the new road is done, however the dust and washboards are getting old.

Tinnitus: I have had the ringing ears for decades. Rather than try to cover it up, I "go with it". sounds counter intuitive, however I make the note/notes as loud as I can in my head and somehow that makes me eventually ignore , or forget, them. I have a hard time explaining it, but it is some mind thing from my yoga days that works best on pain but I find out also works for this malady.

Guy: the control station looks good, like something I would design 😁

Steve: We are in on the train ride, I think it would be great if others on the forum would join. Wife was super happy about it so I guess we are still married. This therapy I am in is making us talk about lots of stuff I would rather just "stuff". Apparently, that has been a problem with me, not wanting to hurt someones feelings so not letting mine being known.

Boris: My camera is the Cannon PowerShot ELPH 320HS, a compact camera similar to yours, I think. I can still get everything to work on it, however it has so many features that I don't know what they do maybe some of them don't work, either?
