Bing or David?

Not really a huge fan of either Crosby (or Denise for that matter), so no clue why I asked, lol.

I love music. I find strange things about music interesting. Like how the first spoken word comes in at 8:41 on Pink Floyd's Shine on You Crazy Diamond. Most songs, especially the ones you hear on the radio, are around 4 minutes long. So Pink Floyd has an intro to a song that is twice as long as most pop songs. Splitting SOYCD into 2 pieces (parts 1-5 and then parts 6-9 after a few songs in between) was genius, IMO.
Bing was a singer David Crosby was a better song writer.

When I listen to music I don’t think so much the words matter to me. It’s the blend of all the sounds to me. PK‘s Shine on … is great all round.

This "Linseed Oil" spontaneous combustion -- is that raw linseed oil? Or boiled linseed oil like would be used for wood refinishing?

It has been a while, but pretty sure that both are susceptible to spontaneous combustion.

What happens is: You apply the oil with a rag of some sort. Then you either ball up the rag and throw it away, or leave it out such that it is either balled or in other way folded up on itself. The oil in the folds then reacts chemically to produce heat. After awhile enough heat produced such that the oil becomes a fuel and begins to flame.

To prevent this, one washes and soaks with water and detergent and squeezes out as much oil as possible - - not easy because the oil is not very water-soluble. Then you lay the rag to dry totally flat. When the water AND residual oil is dry, then the rag is safe.

No doubt others are better versed in this, so please chip in and correct/add to my explanation.

The troubling Sciatica. I get that occasionally. I went to the Bethesda Naval hospital for a back management training for it. Now when it crops up I can alleviate it immediately. It's a simple cross legged toe touch. I can't actually touch my toes but doing the bend as if trying to relieves the pain almost immediately. The action is basically stretching a muscle that runs down the back, over your butt and down the leg. Takes just a few seconds of stretching is all.

Should be walking, but found a shady place to sit. 85° in the sun, light breeze making it comfortable on the shade. Still going to take credit for the walk.

Music like most, I have favorites and some I'd sooner rip my ears off, of course some some are just annoying. The worst is "Last Christmas" originally by Wham, but crap by any artist. If you follow the words, the idiot doesn't learn and we'll hear it again this year. I know I'm an old fart...lol

Good Morning All. Clear and 69° with a light north breeze. While that cool breeze won't affect today's high in the mid 90's, it will keep the temperature in the 80's for a few days after.

Yesterday's outdoor tasks included shredding some more brush piles and weedeating the perimeter of the house. I'll split some wood this morning and I will mow when the dew dries around 11ish.
Meanwhile this sciatica is not going away like the doctor said it would. Most of the day it's tolerable or absent, but it flares up just before I normally get into the pool just before supper. Funny thing is that walking a mile in the morning seems to help immensely.
When I go on the grocery trek tomorrow, I need to purchase a new pool cover for the winter this year. I took the old one out and found three holes and some other potential trouble spots. The old one lasted three seasons which is average for winter covers.

Thanks for all of the reactions and comments on my ongoing progress; Dave B, Sherrel, Joe, Tom O, Karl, Christian, George, Troy, Gary, Curt, Guy, Smudge, Chad, Mikey, Rick, Tom, Patrick.

Yesterday out in the train shed, I continued with the retail store, now known as Farmco Supply.

I plan on adding an interior, so I added a partial floor and a LED light yesterday.

An interior will go at the back of the partial floor and customers will go on the front.
Besides that, I painted a concrete parking lot on the layout and enhanced the green on the backdrop with highlights and trees.

Note the additional downspouts on the front.
Over on the workbench are a couple of roof vents being painted that were left over from other Pikestuff structures, as well as a sidewalk to add. Time now for ground cover and look for a suitable interior picture on the Internet. Maybe I already have one; I'll have to look.

Tom O - Real soda sales here are always the week before a holiday. That's when four 12-packs go for $10 on some holidays or $12 on others. I haven't figured out what triggers the lower sale price yet. Other food prices are hit or miss. We get a lot of Gulf Coast shrimp here so that's still low. Chicken has exploded, pork came down earlier in the year and beef which went up during the Great Pandemic is now starting to come down. I think that pork came down due to Kalifornia's "swine crate" law and producers quit selling out there rather than remodel their entire operations. Beef went up from the packing plant closures, but is now coming down as drought is sending more cows to market. Fruit and veggies are in plentiful supply since much is grown in Texas and Mexico, but they're up due to transportation costs.
Pink Floyd is never a bad choice for the train room.
George - I wish that I had more time to watch concerts. I saw many in person in the days before my hearing started going away and I had to stop going.
Snowman - I'd leave the idea of a "What are you Listening to Now" thread up to the moderators, but I like it. I would participate when time permits. I primarily listen to rock and R&B, but I am also very eclectic with my tastes. I'm not a fan of pop, country or rap (hip-hop), but in the words of Bob Segar, "Give me that old time rock and roll". I was an early listener to Pink Floyd in the mid-60's when they were led by Syd Barrett. I also like much of the Mothers of Invention music from that time frame. I did say eclectic didn't I???
Besides being hearing impaired from loud music in the 60's -80's I also listen to tinnitus all of the time. My hearing aids are set to compensate for it and that helps when I have them in.

Today is National Beer Lovers Day. It seems like we have one of them several times a year. Doesn't matter as I celebrate every day unless I'm in the hospital!
Everyone have a great day and I'll hoist one for anyone who doesn't indulge.

Hoist away, enjoy one beer for me. Thanks.

$10 for 4, 6 packs of 16.9oz bottles soda is the best around here. Many are on sale this week at $11. I think it’s the volume of possible sales on the 3 day weekends that drives the good sale pricing.

We hit the Farmers Market near the Capital, a 15 minute drive there, 15 minutes of buying and 15 to home. Gas was $2.22 per gallon with the grocery store per gallon discounts, pump price was $3.49.

Then we hit the beef tenderloin on sale till Wednesday closing time. She purchased 2 more at $8.98 per pound already trimmed and 4 pork tenderloins also already trimmed at $2.98 per #. Fresh never frozen deveined shrimp at the fish monger down the street was $16.99 per # today. I passed.

Good morning all!
59F in Libby.
84F in Aurora.

Wife found out late last night that the grandson rolled his Jeep on Mukilteo Speedway ( Washington ). He is ok, Jeep is not. Took him to ER to remove some glass from his arm and to generally check him out. Apparently someone hit him from the side forcing him on to the shoulder, went crazy after that. Have not heard what happened to the other driver ...yet. His Mom talked with him so she is better. Jeep is one of those that he and his Dad worked on together. When Dad passed a couple years ago, the Jeep became an obsession. I suspect the insurance company is gonna total it which will be sad. Told him he could probably buy the carcass from Insurance company, but it might not we worthwhile to do so. Also told him to have a list of the stuff he has done to it and should get reimbursed. We will see.

Good afternoon, all! Just got back from a curbside pick-up at the grocery store. Yesterday I just ran some trains, sat back with a scotch and watched them run. Very therapeutic.
Music - I'm very eclectic. My likes tend to change. I guess the only thing consistent, is I prefer instrumental over singing. I remember listening to the radio with my mom, John McCormick, Phil Harris ("The Thing"). I got a crystal radio as a gift. It looked like a airplane. A wire came from one wheel well you clipped to ground, a second wire was an ear plug and a slide tuner came from the nose. The only station a could get clear was an opera station and so I listened to quite a few operas as a 9-year-old. My favorite Aida. Favorite aria, Vesta la Guba. In my teens it was Doo Wop. Still listen to it when the mood strikes me. I did have a Country Western phase when I first came to Texas. I don't care for today's country music. My current go to music, whether driving or RR modeling is a guy on YouTube, Geoff47.

What am I listening too?

A little bit of everything, hard rock, big band, acapella vocal music, blue eyed soul, older country, grunge, pretty much anything. There are exceptions.

How are good music and candy the same?

The are always better once you get rid of the (w)rapper!

Here's a few samples of some of the tunage that you may not have heard of.

Willie, Love to have a beer with ya!

Good morning, late morning. Had the dogs out to the dog park while it was still cool.

Been on the phone a few times with the orthopedic people getting appointments finalized and am trying to figure out what I can do for physical therapy.

Sherrel - I know that it's expensive to go to a shop for automotive work, but when it come to air conditioning, that is one think I don't mess with as specialized equipment is needed to test and recharge the system. Good luck and don't melt.

Steve J - Working with the 3 way switches can be confusing. Many moons ago when I was wiring the basement in my old place I had two 3 way switches and one 4 way with a switch at the top of the stairs and one at each end of the basement hallway. Worked the first time. I almost fell over. Where is the cedar going? Indoors or out? Cedar usually doesn't need sealing. It is pretty weather proof. For indoor use, you should leave it in the area where you are going to install it. I used cedar boards, not tongue and groove to close in the under side of the front porch on my old place to replace the lattice. It's on the front of the house and gets direct sunlight in the summer and well below zero in the winter and I never notices any expansion or contraction. I did use a latex stain on it to match the porch just to look good. I have never sealed it and haven't had any problems. It's not necessary unless you want to stain it. My son has built furniture out of cedar and hasn't had any problems. He stained and put a matte finish on the end table in case something was spilled so it wouldn't leave a mark. The little pantry unit he did put a light stain on to match the pine cabinets in the kitchen.

Willie
- That building is coming right along. Are you going to put an interior in it? I thought every day was beer lovers day.

Joe - Like the photos.

TomO - That scene is coming right along. Nice work. The only carbonated beverage I drink is BEER. Cut down quite a lot in recent years. The other drink I enjoy is tea. Like the Snapple peach tea.

Tinnitus - I am like you Dave. Even with ear protection, working with power tools and a bizillion rounds of ammunition fired over the years, I also just live with it.

Todd - Your grandson is lucky. During the time I worked as an accident investicator, I have seen aq lot of accidents involving Jeeps and the outcome can be ugly. With the short wheelbase and high center of gravity, they can be deadly.

When chicken was mentioned, I heard my wallet scream. I got a package of 4 skinless chicken breasts for the food I make for the dogs and it was 14 bucks and change.

Here are a few photos from my old club.

Afternoon All,

Wife got on the road at 5 am today and has arrived at her BFF's house in SC. Tomorrow they head to OH. Today I finished the static grass which means that at this point scenery is complete. I also am about 80% complete with the new oil house. I decided to put a "concrete" base on it. I'm taking Dad to the VA tomorrow morning so I should be able to finish it tomorrow afternoon.

Joe- Nice looking locos and decaling job.

TomO- I love the color of the concrete pad.

Willie- Nice job on the build.

Dave- Nice scene.

Chet- Nice house areas and layout shots.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Louis - The Ryobai battery powered mower is self-propelled, so weight isn't necessarily a factor. The speed is adjustable as well. Even on the slowest setting, I sometimes feel like I am jogging instead of walking.
Willie, I tend to keep things beyond their expected life span.
Over the years I have had self-propelled mowers. From my experience the first things that break are in the drive.
If you can't easily keep up with the self-propelled mower, I would have no chance! I have only three speeds, slow, slower, and slowest. I usually operate somewhere in the middle.

Curt, the grass looks GREAT!

I would add some cows or sheep to that lush pasture, you maybe have other plans?

Thanks Curt regarding the concrete color. I really like it now and it’s staying. I promised myself no more playing with it.
