Great selection of artists you're using.
Regarding AXS TV - It probably has something to do with licensing rights. I don't know since I haven't ever watched AXS TV.
They do a lot of concerts Willie. Tom Petty concert going on right now. Foreigner was on a few weeks ago I was waiting for one of my favorite songs by them Urgent but they never played it. Then I found out that they had a sax player sign on just for that one song and that's why they don't do it live. Great sax though.

Afternoon All,

Ran some errands then put in the big section of static grass and prepped the two outside edges for static grass tomorrow. After that I helped the wife pack and load the van she is taking tomorrow.

Hughie- Nice job and progress on the build.

TomO- Are you leaving the flat the white color or doing another color?

Ken (IL)- I'm right there with you about math. Back when I was starting my AS degree I had to start with "math for dummies". I had 3 prep math courses before the mandatory one (college algebra).

Willie- Great looking progress. Pink Floyd is my second favorite group. The first is Led Zeppelin.

Dave- The layout is looking good.

Sherrel- I had a Mitsubishi P/U without AC while in HI (didn't need it). When it got to FLI screwed down a small fan on the dashboard and plugged it in the cigarette lighter. You can do that! 😂

I hope everyone has a good night.

Should be fun!

Is that an invite? I mean are you going and if I see you there we could chat? That is within our travel range. Of course, the wife would have to approve and not sure if I will still be married so then it wouldn't matter.

On the cedar question, I have never sealed cedar before installation. I have put up a substantial amount of T & G cedar and the main thing is keeping it in the room for a while, shrinking and swelling of cedar (or any wood) especially molding and finish wood. If you do seal it, I would think getting anything into the groove or on the tongue would make assembly less than ideal. I don't think I even painted it or anything, cause I like the smell of it raw. That would be the white cedar. Red cedar is even more aromatic and usually used in jewelry boxes and lining old closets, cause it repels moths.

I am not really sure why they would want you to seal it first, unless maybe a high moisture environment where it would be likely to swell substantially.

That is my opinion

Hey, that'd be fun, Dave. Hope you can make it. My wife and daughter are accompanying me. They'll be chatting such that I can hardly get a word in anyway, so I'm sure we can make acquaintance! Maybe we should open the invite to all MnWis (Minnesota-Wisconsin forum members)!

Thanks for the practical response re the cedar. That's what wife and I were saying. Seal the wood and lose that lovely aroma. I would like it darker. I was wondering how Watco or Linseed oil would do for it. Back in the day when I used to make our furniture (read "poor"), I really liked Watco oil. Also did a bookcase in Linseed. Just have to watch out for that spontaneous combustion thing. Especially as how that was when I lived in Texas and ambient temp was a tad higher!

Funny you would mention Linseed oil. It works well for tool handles.

Ironically, while a fire fighter, we through the rags from treating the shovel handles in the garbage. A fire started. We got it out right away but funny all the same.

I will put it on the calendar, call about tickets. Something fun!!!

I got mine!!!!

ronically, while a fire fighter, we through the rags from treating the shovel handles in the garbage. A fire started. We got it out right away but funny all the same.
You will be amused to know that spontaneous combustion of linseed oil soaked rags resulted in the (temporary) loss of a firestation in my old department. Dayshift, was painting stuff and used linseed oil to clean the brushes etc. and dumped them in the trash. During the overnight, the Night Shift noticed the smell of smoke, and barely had time to get the apparatus (L-2, E-1), out of the building, before it took off.

Station was later relocated during an expansion of the Weidner U. campus, and ultimately consolidated out of existence, when the consolidated East side station opened in 1984. Recently, the former station was involved in a roof fire...

With my son's help, I patched and renumbered several locos...no way I can see the numerals for the number boards, let alone apply them.

PRR ARS18 7630 09_03_2022 Renumber.JPG

Patch ARS16 # 7630, formerly #8630, class ARS16, formerly class AS16m. Atlas Classic new about 2010.
PRR ARS16sm 5562 09_03_2022.JPG

Patch renumber 5562 class ARS16ms - add ons include cab signal box and steam generator stack, intake and vents, horn(s), and VHF radio antenna. Bachmann DCC on board from around 2010, with Digitrax DN135 silent decoder replacing OEM decoder.
PRR ERS17 7138 09_03_2022.JPG

PRR EF17, 7138 New 2013 Athearn Genesis out of box with 16" numerals. Added Digitrax DN136 silent decoder. Unit has ROCO open frame motor from the factory. Goes to show one never knows what will be found under the hood. Runs quietly and smoothly.

Joe, I don't know if you've run into this yet with Digitrax decoders, but in order for them to MU with other brands, you would need to set CV57 to 102. For whatever reason, Digitrax borked their BEMF setting when MUed. That cv setting should take care of the issue. I've run into it many times in the past, to the point I haven't even checked any more. I just make that change, and everything works.

Afternoon All,

TomO- Are you leaving the flat the white color or doing another color?

Hi. The color of the facade flat is undetermined. The styrene white though definitely will get painted over even if I do the building in white. I always tend to lean toward the blue shades. I had a difficult time forcing myself to do the paper mill in a brown color.

TomO

Good evening, 69°, and drizzle. Since midnight 1.21" of rainfall, most in a steady rain, rather than downpours. As the growing season is coming to an end, I probably will not have to irrigate any more this year. Meanwhile the range of temperature has been narrow, 75° at Midnight and 68°, mid afternoon. Most of the day it has hung at 70°

My Canon S3IS Power Shot, lost all settings when I changed the batteries.I'm trying to reset the date, but it doesn't want to go beyond 2018, for some reason...nothing is forever. I would get a new Rebel, but I hardly use it any more.

Meanwhile, In Pittsburgh, the Mets continue their slide, down 4-2 in the 7th. In the top of the 4th, Toronto has runners at the corners with nobody out, while the slumping O's try to hold a 5-3 lead...The Orioles have lost their last 3. ☹️

This week at the Rock, the Ice Crew applied this season's graphics then poured the ice. The Red line is a repetition of the Outline of the State of NJ.

Almost time for Camp to open, First Devils Preseason game on 9/26. First Caps Preseason game 9/25.

Good evening. It's raining and 74.
I had to go today and have some emergency dental work done. A grand for a filling...

Thanks for the tip...I have not run into that issue, yet, mostly because Digitrax is my majority decoder. However, I have run into problems consisting two digitrax equipped units together... Run perfectly well separately, but fight each other when consisted. May be a solution for that also.

Grand, eh? I have to have one "extracted". I have been putting it off just for that reason...wonder what that will cost.

That sax player was Junior Walker of Junior Walker and the All Stars. They had a string of Motown hits in the 60's and 70's starting with "Shotgun" in 1965. He had at least 15 (probably more) Top 20 singles during his run on the charts.
I guess we can call you Mr Jukebox Willie. I remember Junior Walker and the All Stars but I didn't know he was the sax player on the Urgent track. I like the sax a lot more than the sax at the end of the Pink Floyd's Shine On Your Crazy Diamond song. Who's the sax player there?
George

CURT - I just happened to have one that we used in the RV.
Thanks for the suggestion - that will help!
Sherrel, don't you live in Hemet? The news is reporting a wildfire near there.
TERRY - live on the South side of Temecula off 79 South.
Lots of heavy black smoke looking to the north - winds have been almost nil today so maybe they will get a handle on it?
Sherrel, perhaps the air ducts aren't closing as they should. You're getting outside air instead of the cool air.
KEN - That could be a real possibility. I also wonder if maybe the thermostat is not working as it should.

Could be just a simple flap somewhere in the dashboard.
When I go from A/C to heater - I can hear a "flap" opening/closing under the dash.
If pressures are both where they should be, your problem is elsewhere.
If you can figure out how to do it, block off the flow of water to the heater. If the valve or door is not closing all the way, it can cause "blah" performance from the a/c, because some hot air is mixing with the cold air.
TERRY - I wish I had time to check out what you just said.
We will leave noon tomorrow to San Fernando for the MIL's funeral and memorial on Thursday, 9 AM, then home later in the afternoon; then Friday morning is when I made appointment with the mechanic, so I guess I will let him tell me what the trouble is.

After the $2600 VET bill and the $700 termite treatment (found evidence of them in three places) I am just about tapped out for a couple months.

STEVEJ - I have in my arsonal two products that I have used on wood. One is a rattle can 0f "DEFT CLEAR COAT' and the other is a brush on (do9n't have the name with me at this moment). Both are SATIN finish - no smell. Both from HD.
I would NOT use linseed oil as it will smell like linseed oil for a very long time?

Ok, I'm going to float an idea here about starting a new thread (or not). Please chime in (or not, as you see fit). Admin's decisions rule over all others, as it fit and correct.

As I just mentioned, I am a sim-racer (or was until I took a two-year plus hiatus due to my sister's bout with cancer). My main group of guys are still found at:

The group now uses Discord, which is a series of live, active threads...but before we moved to Discord, we had an actual forum. Among the threads were a group entitled "What are you listening to right NOW?" Each thread died out 'round about 1000 posts, most of which were Youtube links to individual songs. As each thread reached it's limit, we started a new one, NOW, v 2, etc.

I mention this idea for a couple of reasons, the first of which is this: I have the idea most of us here are what can be, for better or worse, considered "old farts." And, as such, inspired somewhat by the short discussion of music up above, I will admit to a curiosity about the type of music some of you--each of you--favor (or not). IMO it can tell you a fair bit about the other guy, as to his experience, age, place in life...influences...etc.

But at the same time, it can be a distraction too, all weather conditions aside.

Think it over maybe? And thanks for any inputs

Could be fun, my taste is rather eclectic music wise.
