Running Bear's October 2026 Coffee Shop

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

I do have one and use it regularly for steaks. Even though it'll be a quick hit, the high temp pan will still cause a lot of splatter. I use my 8 qt pressure cooker pan for frying when I have to since it helps to contain some of it, but it doesn't get it all. Unfortunately, my oven doesn't have a broiler. Maybe its time to get a propane torch.
I have a mesh thingy with a handle that goes over my fry pans to block spatter.

I arrived at the barber shop about 1145 only to find the shop had closed at that location. When she text me to confirm the appointment she didn't say she had moved. She's a rather scatterbrained woman.

I asked two women coming out of a business next door to the old shop and they told me she moved across the street and a few door down.

I thanked them and looked down and across the street and saw her revolving barber pole. OK, no big deal, but would have been nice if she'd told me she'd moved.

What is Troy smoking now?

I'd do anything for BBQ

But I won't... well, yeah, I probably would do that...

Good afternoon gang!

Thought I would check in, boy was that an adventure. It seems the forum has had a case of wonkitis today. Like a post, move on before the thumbs up lights up, and I get an error message. I'm not gonna lie, it pissed me off.

Troy, Our furry demon has been on Royal Canin Urinary care dry kibble since he was 2 due to a bad UTI. I get it auto-shipped from Chewy.com every 6 weeks. He's 10 now and healthy as can be. Now when we find pee on the floor by the back door we know it's one of the dogs.
I will warn you, it's pricey. A 16 lb bag costs more than a 40 lb bag of dog kibble! The cost is worth the mice he catches!

Good morning all. This morning is cold at 16C/61F. Won't be opening as many windows today. Supposed to be cloudy all day with temps climbing only a couple of degrees all day.

Pre-op today and will ask for the pills. Thanks all for letting me know. If the fruit juice torture can be avoided, I'm all for it. Studying for the exam is the worst.

Have the jungle site open with the mesh splatter screen search. Have to go measure my pans so I have it open so I won't forget this time.

Question: are there HO scale diesel engineer figures available? I was thinking of installing cab lighting and I should have a reason for doing so. I did a quick search and found nothing so far. Painted would be nice, but unpainted is fine since each company colors are different.

Scenic express has a few.

Woodlland scenics has a couple options too.

Plenty of Diesel and electric engineers in Preiser's collection. Check with them.

Scenic express has a few.

I saw those, but they look like steamers.

Woodland Scenics, Preiser and Walther's have them to name a few. But for all seated figures, try Maple Leaf.
The maple leaf guys look very casual. I think I need to watch more videos as I guess I don't know what to expect. I was thinking uniforms, but that may have been a long time ago. I took some of the engineers out of my Lifelike E8s and GP30s and they were all in uniform.

Thanks guys! Will be looking more closely at those links.

"Uniforms" of the day were usually something like overalls. The only uniformed crew was usually the ones on passenger trains, and the head end crew still didn't have uniforms.

Good early morning folks. Been up since 0300 for whatever reason. Mind woke up and woke the rest of me up despite 15mg of melatonin at 2330. Sucking down a cup of cold coffee.

I think the 15mg of melatonin is part of your sleep problem. Melatonin is not a sleeping pill. It’s a natural hormone secreted in the brain to help regulate the circadian rhythm and to induce sleep cycles. Using it too often / over a prolonged period and at a high or very high strength can mess up your sleeping rhythms and maybe even mess up your brains natural cycles and Melatonin production. I’m not an expert but external use is meant to nudge the body and influence the brains natural production and cycle. Using it too much or at too high strength could easily mess up your natural system.

When I use it I use small amounts. 1-3mg. I bought some 3mg tablets from Costco a while ago and at one point used the complete tablet every night over many days. I started to have really intense weird dreams and my sleep cycles got out of whack. I would wake up in the middle of the night and not be able to go back to sleep. This was after a week or two of constant usage. I suspected that once the body recognized the externally supplied melatonin it limited the brain’s natural production and once the body had metabolized the externally supplied stuff the brain wasn’t making as much natural or something. Again that was a guess.

I backed off and cut the tablets into 1/2’or 1/3 sized pieces and didn’t use them for more than a few days at a time, and only in an effort to nudge the bodies cycle a little. No weird dreams and no more disrupted sleep.

Lately I’ve used the full 3mg again because they’re older and I think they’ve lost some potency due to age of the pills. I’ve only used them for a day or three at a time, and only when trying to nudge my sleep cycle from 1am+ to 11:30pm or midnight. Lot as a regular sleep aid.

We also use small amounts when traveling internationally. For example to Japan or back from Japan. We all take a small amount for 4-5 days after arriving in Japan or after arriving at home at the normal sleep time to encourage the body to adopt the new local sleep time. It’s helped to adjust to jet lag faster. Again it’s usually just 1-2mg when we use it.

I’d suggest not taking melatonin any more for a while and then when you need a little help normalizing a sleep cycle use small doses.

Good evening folks, prayers up for so many of you needing them! A LPN from Aetna came by today to do my Home Health Study, very nice lady and an easy visit. Finally got into the Chiropractor today and he worked for a while on me. Got home, took some meds and fell asleep in the recliner for a while. Woke up in time for Church, but my Missus still has me grounded. So at least got to watch the Livestream on FB.
You guys have a good evening.
