Good afternoon. It's sunny and 85.
I have something of a head scratcher, for any computer guys here.
I got tired of having extra drives laying around with my stuff on them, because the drive in my laptop wasn't large enough to hold everything. So, I got a 2tb SSD and started trying to copy files onto the larger drive.
And then the fun started.
The transfer would freeze, or the computer would "lose" the external drive.
After many hours trying to fix this, I found an old 2.5" hard drive with about half my files on it. I grabbed an enclosure, connected it to the laptop, and-- it worked like it was supposed to. Glacially slow, but it worked. I tried with USB flash drives, it worked. I tried with SSDs--it failed. I tried with an SD card, it worked. All the odds and ends I have laying around with files on them work, except the ones that I could expect to use and not be ready for the retirement home before they finish. They will not work. I have many of them, and I tried some that had almost nothing on them, just transferred a couple of photos onto them, to see if they would work to transfer those. Nope.
I even resorted to contacting the computer manufacturer, they couldn't figure it out, either. I can access the files on the drives, and use them as if they were on the drive in the laptop, I just can't move them to the laptop.
So, at this rate I should be done transferring everything onto my new SSD by Christmas.
