Good Morning All!

44F @ 86% and foggy ... again. Supposed to get to 75F bout noon. Did that yesterday, so why not.

Rambling today -

Animals What would we do without them? Our 19YO Blue Healer is still plodding on with issues. Sometimes the back part does not do what the front part wants and she slaps the ground. We are biting our tongues waiting until she decided that she has had enough. Great dog. Note that she does not seem to be in any pain and has bright eyes so we will let nature run its course.

Trucking Even though I have not been out there for the length of time some of you have, I did get 8+ years in with many miles between us; around a million and 1/2 in the truck, no clue of what the actual drive miles are. After we got to our 'final' company we were averaging 230,000 per year. That was for about 5 years. We did the trucking school thing as that was the fastest way to pay. This school was pretty in depth and we actually learned something. Nowadays the colleges are putting out wannabe's every quarter. The .gov had there hands in that as they determined that somebody with more than 15 years ( or more ) experience was not good enough. I started on 10 speeds and did that for just over a year. Also did a gear hi/low split ( vs group split ) for a bit, and a 13 speed. Loved the 10 split as I could cruise downhill from the top of I5 ( Oregon or Cali, don't remember ) to Redding CA without touching the brake ( sometimes near 80K GVW ). When Maria was to come on the truck, they took me kicking and screaming into a Pete automatic. After my 1st time through LA, I loved it. It was easier to get her an automatic as then she could worry what was around her vs trying to downshift to slow it down. It did take me some time to get her foot off the brake! Anyway, one of the reasons we quit was all those 'New' idiots out there; and I am not talking about the four wheelers. Most seemed to think that they had a 70ft Porsche and tried to drive it as such. They would honk ya if they needed to move lane to lane and we were in their way. We won't even talk about crossing 3 or 4 lanes into an exit, or going down Grapevine or Cabbage Hill ( some know it as Deadman Pass ) riding the brakes. We did see many fires from those hot brakes! We learned with ELD's ( Qualcomm ) and really didn't have any problems with it. Pegasus ( final company ) always built in time to get to destination so we never felt 'scrunched' to get somewhere. Our ethic was to go first, play later so that helped. In fact, sometimes we would be over 24Hrs early and *most* of our receivers were glad to see us ( remember we were hauling drugs ). Funny thing is that when we would get home time, after about 4 days ( of 7+ ) we would miss the road. Since getting out last year Oct 1st, we do not miss the road. Ya, would like to see more sights and we do miss some of the people but spending time at home has its beni's.

Most of our trailers ( Box or Refer ) were actually 13'3" even though the sticker stated 13'6". And I always got a kick out of those OO's that would add the 2nd stack to make the truck look better. They did not connect it to the system. Yup, 2 CB antenna's and 2 stacks. Good looking truck.

Crud: Something was not quite right yesterday am. Wasn't BP or BS. Finally about noon I could feel a fever coming on. OK, so do the routine. HOT shower for 15/20 minutes. Put on insulated undies, jeans, multiple shirts and socks and get the body warmed up. Drink *lots* of water and eat carbs. Made it almost to 1900 and went to bed with multiple comforters to sweat. Every 3ish hours get up and drink water; P2. Bout 0130 ate more carbs; pizza pieces left from dinner to feed that fever. Noticed that when I got up at 0400ish, fever was almost gone. Good. Drink more, go back to bed. Made it 11 hours and got up about 6 this am. Still have some dregs and sinus pressure but it is going away. So, gonna be a somewhat slow day.

Willie: Yup, for reasons unknown, I too am not allowed to paint. Suspect that I always want to spray it to get-r-done. Go figure.

Thats enough of the book.

Good Morning All, a bit late this morning, as the granddog had issues while we were walking. Chased a rabbit and didn't return. While I didn't go after her, I retraced my route back and forth until I finally spotted her and she responded to my call. Meanwhile it was 47° and clear when I first woke up; it has already risen to 57° as I begin this post. The high temperature yesterday was just 70°, which ironically was cooler than the pool water, which was too chilly even for me. Mid to upper 80's for the next week.

Regarding the pool, yesterday I did most of the pre-closing tasks that need to be done. Removed the ladder, removed the vacuum and hoses, brought in the test kit and added the winter chlorine. No wind today will make putting the cover on real easy.
First though in the morning, I mowed with both the tractor and the small electric push mower. Got lots done since conditions were right. No dew, no dust because the top of the ground hadn't dried out yet, and I had a lot of pent-up energy. More of the same today including the weedeater.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I did finish the ground cover around the fuel distributor.

Sherrel - My new IT guy is now my 16 year old grandson, as he has skipped over the knowledge level of my son-in-law. He's still the back-up though.
Tom O - I have noticed that if you miss the pre-orders with Scaletrains engines, they are really hard to come across. A little easier with freight cars though. I understand their business model but I am not sure that I fully agree with it. Plus, they don't have a large distributor network at all.
Mac - My granddog wasn't as lucky as your cat!

I appreciate the comments and pictures regarding the trucks, it helped me a lot. I don't have a lot of experience with trucks themselves, although I dealt with many drivers from our team when I worked and scheduled customer shipments. They really helped me a lot in many instances, made their jobs easier as well. They definitely weren't used to having any influence in scheduling decisions.

Everybody have a great day, It's time to leave for Mass.
Willie. I rarely pre-order. I am now very leery of poor products showing up without peer reviews. If you had said to me 3-4 weeks ago I would be looking for a heritage unit of any kind let alone a WC unit I would have said you were nuts. The last few years I have started moving away from modeling the CN in Central WIsconsin to my own free-lance railroad and fictional RR name.

I am drifting back with the new layout to CN and since I loved the WC it would fit right in in 2020, the year I am thinking about modeling.

Hiawatha Hobbies has always seemed to be able to produce that hard to find ST item but Glen even in the early buyout years of WC into CN rarely had very little WC equipment. Heck even Enginehouse Services in Green Bay doesn’t have any Scaletrains WC stuff in stock. But I did find the ST--NS 9-40c’s I was searching for there.

When even PWRS in Canada doesn’t have it you know it’s a tight market.

Yup, have 3 of those that bring *live* [Pick your favorite] birds, mice, snakes, lizards in the house and drop them. Now the chase is on. Most of the time I can see if they have anything in the mouth and won't let them in. Ya, every-once-in-awhile I miss that or it is dark and can't see it. Ok, so enter the 'doggy door'. Have you ever been sitting on the throne and get dive bombed? Makes for an interesting dump. Then you find a trail of partly eaten parts or bird feathers all over the house. Heck, had a roommate with hunting dog. Scratched the door to get in. Opened it for him and he jumped in and dropped a Pheasant in the foyer. Geesh, ya should have seen us trying to get that into the frying pan!

I am set on the Scaletrains model in HO as I don’t know too many folks that have had success with the Intermountain’s locomotives. I can wait and I do have the option of painting my own but those become never completed projects!

Thanks for helping Mike
I've got a couple of Intermountain loco's and they are good pullers, run well, and as far as I can tell very well detailed. I'm looking at getting another one or maybe two (from the US of course) maybe you'd like to weather it for me and then you can check it out yourself.

Yeah I missed it too, but as Auto trucks weren't a thing 30 odd years ago I had to give it up, or I'd have carried on for a few years longer at least, but I agree the quality of drivers as a whole has gone downhill over the years, no patience and as you say some think that they're driving a 40ton Porsche. If I had driven my rig the way I see some nowadays, my boss would have fired me on the spot, as he was fond of saying, " it's my name on the side of that truck, not yours"

I forgot while writing my book:

This one is usually not bad. The China Virus stopped it one year and it has been getting back to status-quo. That is next weekend for those of you that live near Spo - or want to do a road trip. I suspect that I will be there about noon. I always seem to find something that causes me to empty part of my wallet.

River City Modelers sponsors the show. I do not know if the layout is gonna be 'open house' or not during this time. They have a *big* multi-deck that they have been working on for years.

So one would think that after being married to the same wife for 51 years, I would know just about everything about her. I found out something new this morning which I didn't know and I thought it was a little unusual. She uses hot water when brushing her teeth!!! While I never thought of it and maybe others, maybe many others, do the same; I have always been a cold water tooth brusher.
Maybe that's why I have 8 implants and 9 crowns!o_O

Afternoon All,

Started out the day taking Dad to the airport for his trip to OH. After that was a trip to Wally World and a couple of chores. With the crappy sleep last night, I'm definitely dragging. Tomorrow is laundry and doing chores for the wife to get ready for the Skunk Show on Saturday.

Willie- I've always used cold water. The hose and valve are a very nice detail.

Terry- Heartbreaking drawing.

Troy- That is some excellent modeling and paint work. I've heard the term used "brittle diabetic" but I'm sure it means the same thing.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Willie: Mom used to do that too. Said the cold ( or even lukewarm ) water hurt her teeth. Keep in mind that she also ordered warm water at any restaurant for the same reason. Waite staff sure would look at her funny. Thing is that she always kept up with her teeth over the years. Suspect she had more money in them than my 1st house cost.

Evening all,

Got the dishwasher out, along with the toilets. Those darn toilet bolts didn't want to budge, and when they turned, they turned the bolt as well. Couldn't get a hacksaw blade under the nut to be able to cut the bolt. Then it occurred to me that I'm replacing the toilets anyway, so a couple of taps with a claw hammer against the base and I broke the bolts free without completely breaking the toilets. I had removed the tanks as it reduced the weight greatly. Only thing left is the refrigerator and its waterline and the stove. Stove is easy as you pull it forward and unplug it, slide it out of the room. Probably happen tomorrow. I'm beat.

House looks funny with the holes where stuff used to be, and I already miss not having the dishwasher. Washing everything by hand just doesn't feel right. I know, first world problem!

I use warm not hot water. Never asked Terry
