How Bout dem Jets, Gints and Ravens Hon. Yo! How 'bout dem Phillies?

Tonight,we will find out if the Devils are as good as the analytics say they are. as they go up against Ovie and the Caps.

Weather outside is murky. Cloudy, foggy with occasional rain and drizzle. Not a fun day to be a conductor or brakeman. Hovering at 56°.

My daughter is wise to all the trouble that kids can create. Her oldest daughter, now 19 and out living on her own was a complete disaster. Just about every day, she had some issue going that required my daughter's attention. Lost numerous jobs due to it. Daughter didn't care and actually stated that. Yeah, stolen credit cards, stolen car, stolen tools to sell, rode bus to school but hardly ever went in the building.
A lot like her mother was when she was that age.
When I was a child, my dad was able to use the belt of influence to correct my wayward behavior. Now, parents go to jail for raising a hand to their child.
My son had issues his entire life. A lot of it was defiance along with his AD/HD. Over the years, my wife and I had to use personal leave time to deal with him; doctor visits, court appearances, lock down visits, therapy sessions for him, etc. In the process of getting county help I had to disclose that in fact I did spank him at times. This landed me and my wife on Virginia's list of child abusers for 10 years. We couldn't participate in anything at church that involved children, our other two children were interviewed periodically to see if we spanked them, raised our voices at them that seemed threatening to them or anything else that made them uncomfortable. We had to appear before the Domestic Relations court for periodic reviews. Child Protective Services eventually coached my son on how to request emancipation from my household. He was then placed in a foster care home that let him do as he desired. Gave him cigarettes and access to their car to drive and within a few weeks destroyed the car on a railroad track a few miles from here. They wanted me to pay for the car. Told em to sue me. They continued to give him all the free reign he wanted and he eventually lost his driver's license within the year on points. He continued to drive on suspended and picked up at least two DUIs that I know of which were dismissed. Eventually he was incarcerated for fleeing arrest in stolen car. Two months for that. His track record from there was pretty steady. In and out of jail for driving and drinking issues. Had a Hit and Run charge but that was dismissed because he was drunk and didn't know what he was doing. Yeah, Virginia is really tough on drunk drivers, ha. No, I never smoked or drank so he didn't get that from me. Now, he's 46 and in jail again for more of the same. His 12-year-old son has only seen him a few times over the years until he disappeared into the foster home system a few years ago.
It gets to the point of, be ready for the worst but don't take ownership of the issue when they come back home. Make them deal with it but provide advisory support for them to work out their own plan. Can't do much more than that without just wasting away your own resources.
Over the past 5 years now, my son has been on this binge of blaming me for how he is. I kept a lot of the paperwork from the school system and doctors and offered to let him read through them. He doesn't want to do that, just doesn't want to own what he created.

On a related note, some local super markets, (Lidl, Walmart), are reducing or eliminating self service checkout. Apparently the cost of Shrinkage, as well as the cost of replacing worn machines and updated software exceed the increased cost of keeping automated checkouts.

Interesting, Around here Walmart is adding more and pushing youto them by having minimal manned checkouts available.

WOW!!! Things are really screwed up in the state of Virginia if corporal punishment is taken more seriously than hit & run while intoxicated. Texas is one of 19 states that allow corporal punishment in schools. Of course it's also allowed at home if one is not abusive. Law enforcement is generally on the parents side. The school district that my kids went to had a paddle in every classroom and every bus driver had one. They were rarely used because the kids stayed in line, fearing far worse when they met up with Dad later. It was/still is a very small rural district with just 300 kids in K-12. Daughter #2's graduating class had 13 students. Daughter #1's was considered big with 31, and son's had 21.

I hope and pray that all will eventually work out for you and your family.

A cop here in Utah told me as long as it didn't leave a mark it was not considered abusive. I don't know if that was just their SOP or the actual law.

But he said most of the Polynesian kids would rather get arrested than have to go home and face dad !

Good afternoon, all! A very overcast day here in Houston. A strong storm front is due to blow through in the wee hours tonight.

The Yankee fans were chanting "we want Houston", I believe they got more Houston than they wanted. Now the Philly fans are chanting, "we want Houston". Were they no watching the ALCS?

The child protective services in Virginia are staffed with social workers with an AA degree, maybe a BA in psychology. They are definitely on a power trip as when they make a decision, there is no appeal. Juvenile court judges will side with them every time.
I thought I was helping them build an accurate profile to get help for my son. I had no idea I was building their case against me.

The Jets and the Giants are for real! So are the Phillies!

When the Ravens commit to running the ball, especially in the 4th quarter they could go deep in the playoffs. The Ravens' defense is thin at LB and DL. Fatigue was a factor in all three losses. Run the ball, eat the clock, and let the defense rest, please!

I will be disappointed, but I won't be shocked if the Astros win in four! They have yet to lose a playoff game this season. The Astros' pitching has been outstanding! An 18-inning shutout, wow!

Pitching and defense, I love it!

Now that would look nice on my layout as run through service or a time repaying deal between railroads. Thankfully I never win bids on EBay so won’t even try. I image $450 it will sell for.

Wonder what locomotive he’s upgrading to?

Not for nothing, the whole thing boils down to business increasing margins while expecting the consumer to perform the labor without compensation. They already have consumers paying their credit card fees by charging 10¢ / per gallon more for credit cards, and debit cards than cash payment. Screw them! I have gotten used to having someone pump my gas.

Our local Pick and Save is now owned by Kroger and IMO that is not a good thing. Anyhow, they have 12 self check out spots and 4 cashier staffed lines. But in the last year I have not seen more then 1 cash register staffed and there is no bagger. Terry will only buy stuff on a great sale and we will wait in the cashier staffed line.

:D

I still have enough Esskay bologna left to make a sandwich. I will celebrate today!
Our 2 favorite grocery stores HyVee and Festival Foods do not sell bologna at the deli counter. They have the pre-sliced stuff from Oscar Meyer in the coolers. I will not buy that. I can get bologna at the deli counter in the HEB we go to in Austin.

I love fried baloney on toast with a touch of butter and Welch Grape Jelly.

I have a friend whose father played for the Packers with Bart Star. He had a very short career in the NFL, and retiredas a football coach at Valparaiso University. He also taught sailing at Culver Summer Schools for many summers, and was a good friend of Buddy Melgus, of The America's Cup fame (not mention C-Scow boats and sails).

Norm Amundsen is still alive. I think he turned 90 recently.
I spent a lifetime at a Culvers summer camp in Indiana in 1964 or 1965. 6 weeks of hell at the time but years later totally understood what leadership skills they were instilling. It was at the Culver Military Academy, is that where your friend was?

Yes, definitely not one of my favourite jobs I've had to do, but what else can you do I suppose, I got mega stressed out as the passengers were nearly all me,me,me which I did not find particularly helpful.

I had to go to the morgue and identify the driver, (they knew who he was but he still had to be formally identified) sign for all his personal possessions, pack his case from the room with 3 lists of contents, one for inside the case which was then sealed, one for the police records which had to be translated and Notarised, (that cost me 450 Euro's), plus one for customs, all while being escorted by a policeman.

Then deal with 35 passengers, as to who, why, what, and "will we be leaving on time" sort out the hotel (cost of phone calls, Dr's, Ambulance etc,) find the flipping coach, (as it wasn't parked at the hotel, and no one knew where it was) get various other documents sorted out for the repatriation of the body, and start the return journey all within 12 hours of arriving there.

But it's done, thankfully. I have today off, working tomorrow and then off the rest of the week, I need to pick up a V.I.P. (Very Important Parcel, compliments of MikeGTW) on Tuesday from the PO, that's been sitting there for a week already, and although of some of the contents I know about, it seems Mike has added some other goodies too. 🤔
WOW what a trip not fun I think your boss should pay you double time for that trip
