Speaking of FUEL - Gov Gruesome has now decided to idle 500,000-yard workers with a new law banning petroleum-powered lawn equipment happening 3 years from now. Should be interesting - where do these people come from?
Sherrel - I received an email from a childhood friend who was a truck driver for years. In the email he forwarded were some things that makes one wonder about California lawmakers and also the news reports about why the ships backed up in Cal. ports.

CA. bans trucks with diesel engines older than 2011. No matter how well you take care of your equipment.
CA. bans Owner/Operators, meaning even though there are plenty trucks to move the goods, they must be union.
CA. Diesel fuel is over $5.00 a gallon. When you consider a semi probably hold in excess of a hundred gallons, a $500 fill-up.
CA. By 2035 all truck companies domiciled in California must be electric. Current CA companies are not investing in new trucks.

The uk is setting itself up for a fall too, I suspect the governments have all invested in Tesla, because they are the only ones at present liable to meet demand

Sherrell
You all need to go toss Sacramento into the Pacific. I'm sure 500,000 yard workers would be willing to help!!

You know I am all for keeping folks working at liveable wages. With the current tax structure and things like what California implements it’s tough on the whole country.

Ships backed up at Long Beach. How much further sailing is it to Oakland? Oakland Port Authories are saying they have room to unload the ships and move the cargo to the destinations. I am sure further north has the facilities too. Is this a conspiracy??

That info from Hughie’s friend is terrible. One State can mess up the National economy for their own purposes. I am all for EV vehicles, unions and some other social agenda things but keeping out the self employed trucker. That’s wrong

Like all emails from the interwebz, that has s grain of truth, but not much more than a grain...

No, they didn't ban owner/operators, but the law designed to get Uber/Lyft drivers into regular employee status crossed into the Owner Operator lanes - particularly those who rent from the trucking company owners, fly the flag/logo of the owners, and work around the Port of Los Angeles.

See this story from politifact for the scoop. https://www.politifact.com/factchec...rnias-trucking-regulations-may-have-had-impa/

Also, the ban on engines seems to be off as well: (Source)

I feel better after reading this, thanks Troy

Afternoon All,

Spent several hours at Dad's then went to Walmart before heading home. No train stuff today although looking at the photos yesterday I realize I need to redo the 2 pieces of styrene between tracks 1-2 and 2-3. Tomorrow I have a junk company coming out to pick up the organ (weighs 400-500 lbs). The charity came out today and really took a lot of things 👍. I think Sunday will be the finish date at the house😄.

Guy- Great photos.

Jaz- Nice layout shots.

Steve- Nice video.

Chet- That is a damn shame. I'm very sorry.

Joe- Nice photos. Mom and Dad were renting so I don't have to deal with that.

Jerry- That's a sharp looking loco.

Willie- Very nice build. Boring is good when it comes to medical things.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Garry, thank God for technology. Stay positive and keep the faith. I pray you will be home soon. Our thoughts are with you my friend.

Chet it was a sad day for the entire model railroad world. On the bright side, the Logan Valley lives forever on YouTube.

Did they also drop the 40% off coupon?
Tom: Sure did. and...they had the audacity to blame it on Government Covid regulation... The other side of this, is why, they can get it, while hobby distribution channels can't? Same can, same number, just rebranded to Rustoleum, most likely a little more expensive.

Sherrel: Outer Space?

Good afternoon. The wrecking crew got started a bit late today but the basement clean out has begun. The kids claimed what they wanted and I'll probably have a full dumpster by the time they leave.

I really appreciate the reaction from yesterdays photos. Too many to mention, but thanks.

The guy trying to dismantle the bench work was quite impressed at how well it was built.

Gotta run. The dogs are hunger, and so am I.

I consider a non-functioning coffee maker a full blown emergency.
Ken: It's worse than that!:eek::eek:

Terry: Funny, very funny! LOL

Good evening. Today was a fabulous day, sunny high of 74. Purely enjoyable.

Chet: Shame that your layout had to go, but ya gotta do what you feel is right for you.

Furnace is good to go for another season...(we hope). Considering the price of Natural Gas, this year, I hope it's a mild winter as forecast.

Opps, I'm up past my bed time, so good night!

Curt, thank you for that, appreciated!

Joe, great pic of the 428468! Nice detail shot!

I consider a non-functioning coffee maker a full blown emergency. One should never be forced to face the day without coffee.
Well THERE, is an understatement! 🤣🤣
I keep a cheapie spare coffee maker in the pantry just for those "emergencies." It has payed off more than once.
An add from some pages of a Saturday Evening Post magazine I found in the Nevada desert a couple of years ago.

Have Another Cup! Coffee sets you right!

I don't know, that coffee looks pretty good, I'm thinking it's not deer camp coffee though!:eek:

GOOD HEALTH TO ALL!

Morning all,

48° and clear this morning going for a high in the mid 70's. Coffee in hand...yea!!! Turns out I was asked to open 2 water valves yesterday morning as they got stuff hooked up late and didn't want me to find a puddle in the breakroom yesterday morning. I opened the 2 valves, but the maintenance man closed 3. Once we found and opened the 3rd one, we had a coffee maker.

Craving for pancakes this morning with bacon! Thanks Francine.

Short day as always, but I'll check back in before I leave this morning.

Well howdy there internet club dwellers

It's Troy again

Just coffee today Flo...

Speaking of coffee, let's talk about Patrick's cuppa joe, and a couple of holes

Edit: I see that I was correct, but late with my advice. Story of my life. ;)

Patrick - You probably already have, but check to see if there is an inline shutoff to the brewer. When we moved into our new condo, the previous owners had been smart enough to plumb the line to the fridge - not with a saddle tap (hate those) - but with a real line and valve! I turned that on the first day we were here.

What I didn't realize was they had a separated the line for the dishwasher. It too had a shut off valve in the basement, no where near the dishwasher. We ran the dishwasher for a day to "rinse" the otherwise clean dishes we had packed in the move. Since wife wasn't putting soap in, she didn't realize there was no water to the thing.

It's probably not that issue, but I thought I would assume my role, don my cape and spandex outfit at Captain Obvious...

Now, what about the holes?

Well. This is what I did over the last few days.

Screenshot 2021-10-22 at 6.58.17 AM.png

There used to be bricks in the wall where that board is. I caulked around it since I took that picture. It only took a hammer drill and two masonry bits to chew threw all of the mortar. Once I broke out a couple of smaller bricks the rest of them shattered and came out easily when I used the mini-sledge and cold chisel.

Yes, I know it's off center and crooked. Most of what I build is that way. ;) In my defense, I was kneeling in the muck of the wife's flowerbed, sinking past the mulch and into the mud beneath. Not sure if she had one of those plants who told Seymour to feed him... I tried to work fast.

IF we get another decent day, I'll toss another coat of paint on it. Next spring, when the maintenance guys get the trim paint out, I'll get some of the "Official" color and give it a good coat to match the HOA coded color. But, for now it's functional.

Why exactly did I make that hole?

Well, there used to be a vent there. Our electrical panel has one breaker labelled as "Kiln"... so I suppose someone enjoyed casting pots, or baking greenware? But they bricked up the vent when they left, or such. I got permission to open the hole back up to add a vent fan for the hobby room. Since that area also has the gas furnace and gas water heater, I couldn't move the spray booth or the Isopropyl Alcohol rinse station for the 3d Printer back there. I needed to add a vent fan.

Until I can get a fan, and plumb a couple of Ts into it, I'll just use the spray booth as the vent van. For now, though, I do have a pipe run. I need to move my hobby tables and printers back there this weekend.
