Good morning all! Overcast and 63 degrees here this morning. Drinking my coffee and getting ready to head out for work. Not much to report here. I've got a short work day today and then coming home to do some reading on topics I think might come up in my job interview tomorrow. Other than that, not much going on. Hope you all have a great day!
Ken

Good morning all! I hope this day finds ever body doing well. Hi Flo, an order of French toast please with black berry jam, sausage links with an oj, thanks!
I have been working on an Alco FB unit, removing some of the weight & cleaning the wheels. I took the trucks completely apart to clean the wheels, man, what a bugger to get them back together so they are free wheeling and don't bind up. I will use a different approach on the A units. And speaking of Alco's, here's a consist of 3 that's looking pretty new. That war bonnet scheme is looking sharp.......

TAKE CARE......

Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and 61° here. Wind is out of the north so it won't get much above 80° today. Upper 80's through Tuesday before the next cool spell.
Today being Thursday means another visit from Staci, the home health nurse, before heading out on the weekly grocery trek. Nathan, the occupational therapist, is usually here when I return, but he doesn't help put the groceries away! The visit yesterday to the infectious disease doctor was uneventful, mostly a "how are you?" and "the numbers look good" visit. The plan hasn't changed, three more weeks of antibiotic infusions, a week off, an aspiration, and the new knee joint on 12-3. Wife is extremely bored and I am settled in to the monotonous routine. Every day has a schedule with very little time for modeling, although there is some time for it. Add to that, the freezer which was repaired last month is acting up, which is covered by a 60 day warranty, but the repairman was in a hit and run accident Monday and was unable to come by Tuesday as scheduled. His wife told us that it might be today. Meanwhile I have been feeding it dry ice and have at least been maintaining a 22° temperature. Not at all happy with this recommended appliance.

Thanks to all who liked or commented on my progress on Ramone's; Sherrel, Hughie, Troy, Karl, Patrick, Tom O, James, Ken, Curt, Jaz, Chad, Guy.

A pair of over easy eggs and a handful of bacon this morning Flo.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I started by finishing the new mortar wash on the remaining two walls. then I permanently added the windows to Ramone's Storage and Salvage. I re-did the paint on the roof.

I also primered most of the roof details and cut out some additional promotional product signs to add to the walls. I test fit the fire escape that doesn't exactly fit over the arched doors. Pondering on several solutions. Pictures tomorrow.
I am closing in on the finish line, probably just a week or less to go. Then site prep begins.

Tom O - Congrats on the mention in MRH this month. Second time huh! That now beats me with only one!
Curt - Good luck with the transition and house future. Nice progress on the multiple grade crossings.
Steve J - The train excursion sounds like a great time.
Chet - Hate to see those pictures. RIP Logan Valley. It will live on elsewhere.
Joe - I haven't started weathering the building yet. I agree that dull-coating first is the best way to go. I do that all of the time. But I don't understand why it faded all of the mortar lines; it's possible that the mortar wash that I used, mixed up months ago, had IPA in it which doesn't act well with dull coat. I made a new batch Tuesday using only water and paint. The roof thing was also puzzling. I actually used matte finish instead of the old reliable Testor's Dull Coat anf that may have also contributed to both issues.

Everybody have a great day. Stay safe.

TAKE CARE......
I remember a story about that one, from back when it was new.
California has had some pretty strict emissions rules for decades, and 51 ran afoul of them when it was new. They were given a ticket by local authorities for producing too much smoke. The crew's solution was simple:
Wait until it got dark, and the observers couldn't see very well, and leave town with it then.

I have an observational question for you….
I have a glaring mistake in the following photographs…..
so can you find and name it
I'd say, it appears you've built a wonderful model in a bit wide trench, making maintenance and further modeling difficult.

Good Morning!
All of 30f at 5:00am, and I couldn't sleep a wink anymore. It must be the ecstasy of the cool, knowing we will be covered in snow soon.

Garry - So sad to hear the bad news that you are hospitalized. Head-up and take it easy during recovery - Canuck prayers are in the queue.

I've been gathering a bunch of period photos (scooped off the net) of the general area where I live, for inspiration and potential accuracy when I start the layout over winter. Thought I might post a bunch of them; all are of some part of Whitecourt, except the Mountain Park one, which is 2hrs away.
This is Mountain Park, a place I worked for 2yrs in more modern times:

These are all period photos of buildings in Whitecourt:

That last photo of the main street hotel happens to be the same hotel seen in many of my recent locomotive photos. It's the same building, except it's been renovated to be one floor taller and modernized.
I've been collecting kits and stuff, in order to begin a layout with that small town, industrial atmosphere.

TomO - I read all about you in MRH! Well done!
Chet - Very sad about the Logan Valley layout. That would drive a man who don't drink into drinking. So I hope it never happens to me, because I never touch the stuff at this time.

The good wife will be at work all day, and I thought I would have a free one. Sadly, she can pass some orders through her lips during the 'have a good day' kiss. I guess I'm cleaning up the backyard in anticipation of winter.

Have a wonderful day! Get well Garry!

Willie: That may explain what happened. I normally avoid Hobby Lobby, but occasionally when the wife needs something, I go with her. Recently they have had traditional Dullcote available - now a Rustoleum brand - and have been buying it two cans at a time. They are the only place locally that has it. I have been using a lot lately, as I'm racing the weather to dull and weather as many freight cars as possible, before it gets too cold.

Chet: Sorry to see the LV go...another fallen flag. Best of luck, moving forward.

Furnace tech is coming this morning, to do the annual service.

Glimpse of Penn Central F7s, still in NYC paint.

Catch ya later.

Luckily we were friends with people who warned us about track maintenance, when tracks are under ground there is gaps to reach up, and some items can be picked up and removed for maintenance.
the good thing is no one seems to see what I thought was a glaring mistake, it is a mistake and my earlier clues were to subtle….grins
you need to tunnel in and look carefully take it apart piece by piece…..

ok I will make it easier and focus on the area so less other bits to confuse, I am feeling quite good about this now, as clearly it is not as obvious as I though

ok last clue, the key to the problem is glaringly obvious, stone the crows it must be screaming about now, any minute now the roof will fall in….

Good morning from a very wet So. Central Wisconsin. It is 47f degrees this morning but the weather app says the high is going to be 51 and rain has stopped till this evening. The TV guy says on and off rain all day with the high being 49. Anyway, it is seasonal and we have had some beautiful Fall days so no complaints from me, yet!

Dull cote, the LHS can no longer get it in the spray cans. It is the only thing I will buy at Hobby Lobby. My wife has major issues with HL and I understand her feelings. Did they also drop the 40% off coupon?

I played with one pulp car yesterday to give hints of green paint after a response from Chris vanderHeide in the weathering thread and some deeper investigations by me. Ran some trains.

Terry is out in the arena riding her animals. I will drive an ATV in the rain but not a horse. The yard art/ornaments are in storage after the spray lacquer dried yesterday. I am ready for California and then the islands, come on Saturday.

Enjoy your day
TomO

Since you made it obvious, the arch is flattened in the center, and in the real world it would make it a lot weaker than a proper arch.

Late Morning to you from here! 48F and headed to 81F - Normal this date is 83F and the record is 104F in 1999! Another clear and calm day in the SW.

I will make another pass to complete the patching sheetrock and door this morning around 10-11 AM. Wishing this to be the last trip ... fuel is too expensive to be making un=nessary driving.
Speaking of FUEL - Gov Gruesome has now decided to idle 500,000-yard workers with a new law banning petroleum-powered lawn equipment happening 3 years from now. Should be interesting - where do these people come from?

That's all I got this morning ...
CURT - Keep the faith - it does have an end. Been there, done that except mine was 1800 miles away! Fortunately, I had free seats on the airline for travel.
CHET - Brings a tear to my eye! I did not ever have anything even remotely close to what you have, and it hurt to tear it down!
JOE - like the photos - must have been very interesting placing one of those multi-wheeled locos back on the rails - WOW - lot of moving parts!
GARRY - prayers for you - we want you to stay with us!
STEVEJ -
Sounds like a trip of a lifetime! Lots of photos and a journal, please.

Good day, FLO -- Since it's past breakfast - I would like a BLT with avocado slices on sourdough toast with some of Mel's good fries and a Diet DP - please!

Good Morning all! Well it would appear summer is not quite over. It is warm and humid this morning. We did make it to the grocery store yesterday. Yeah, boy fun. Three hours, up and down the aisles, comparing brands, wearing a mask, fogging my glasses, what a great way to spend an afternoon.
Flo, breakfast burritos please, leave out the potato, picante sauce on the side.

Garry - feeling any better?
Chet - man that just has to hurt. You can always think maybe bigger and better.
JazA - Looks like the arch stones are not laid in a locking manner. Usually taper so as to close one against the other.
Willie - Ramone's is certainly a unique building, and you are doing it justice.
SteveJ - Wish I could convince the Conductress to take a train trip like that, enjoy.
