Good morning folks and Happy Thanksgiving.

31°F here this morening, but no wind like yesterday. Might get up to 40°F today. Having a ball watching the WX >Talking Heads change their snow forecast every six hours since yesterday. We are currently up to 70% chance of an inch, from "just a slight chance of a few flurries to the north".

Can't wait until I hear the forecast tomorrow night.

Don't eat too much today!

Servus!

We haven't had a snow that sticks to the roads yet, so it's still Idiot-Season here in the lower midwest.

Four wheel drive must mean four wheel STOP, right? And Four Wheel Flip! And four wheel donuts...

I always hate driving on the winter holidays. So we're in the "Probably not coming" phase for Saturday.
Troy: It always has amazed me. When we lived in Snohomish, WA SR9 went right by our living room window. Well not quite right by, 1/2 mile away. Anyway, even the slightest rain and there would be AWD's off the road, sometimes way into a corn field. It is a perfectly straight piece of road for a couple of miles. How in the heck do you do that? Oh, and lets not even think of frozen and/or snow. We finally waited to go anywhere until after the morning/evening bumper car game.

Good Morning All. Happy Thanksgiving to all, even if you aren't in the US. Mostly cloudy and 43°, not near the low of 36° that was predicted by the weather nerds. Not great weather forecast for today, but acceptable with the high near 60°. Might be shorts weather if the sun comes out. No snow in our forecast.

Yesterday was just an average day, kinda just relaxed before the odyssey today to my sister's for the Thanksgiving feast. I'll commence to making our food assignment of a fruit salad shortly.
The forum seems to be fixed this morning. It was annoying for the past couple of days, but it's not like it hasn't happened before.

Once again, no new project work out in the train shed yesterday. Ran trains again. I did disassemble a Kato SD40-2 that was running sluggishly, and cleaned out and re-greased it. My notes show that I last did that 9 years ago. Even though it's companion is running OK, I will do it next time that I am out there just to keep them in sync with one another. It took a while to disassemble the first truck, since I didn't remember the nuances from the last time. Another reason to do the companion quickly while I remember!

Troy - Even though we have been empty nester's for around 20 years now, and also don't get many visitors; I still put up a Christmas tree every year. My wife suggested skipping it a few years back, but I resisted and put it up anyway.
When we first moved into this house in 1981, we were haunted by idiot four wheel drivers quite regularly. There's a Corps of Engineers flood control lake across the road, and before the private property was fenced off, many adventurers would drive over there to go "mudding". Yes, you can go anywhere in a 4 WD vehicle, but when you get stuck, it's also far from anywhere. Since this was in the days before cell phones, they would eventually walk to our house late at night and ask to use the phone to get a ride home. Several local farmers used to make some good money pulling them out the next day!
Louis - You did a nice job coloring the turkey. You stayed in the lines all of the way around.
Gary - Welcome back to the Coffee Shop. I saw your post over in the other thread.

The late guitarist Jimi Hendrix was born on this day in 1942.

Everyone have a very happy and safe Thanksgiving.

Heck, we haven't even had our first freeze yet. My brother and SIL live in MI. It looks like they are getting hammered too.

Raw turkey? Umm...
So we didn’t end up going for sushi. The wife’s stomach was not feeling great. We ended up at a Japanese version of McDonalds. Not McDonald’s in Japan but a fast food burger and chicken burger and fry place.

We made it to my SisIL place. Skymark gives you 20kg (44 lbs) checked luggage for free per passenger. Doesn’t matter the number of bags. But their overage is wicked inexpensive.

We had 5 bags. 3 around 20kg and 1 around 25 kg and 1 at about 10kg (this one case inside another and empty for the trip home). 1 case was for me and the wife and the other three were the boy’s stiff after living here around 19 months. (The Kruger being empty except for a slightly smaller empty).

Anyway we were about 35 or 36 kg over. They charge 2000 yen for the first 10kg and then 1000 yen for every 10kg or partial there after. We had to pay 5000 yen. That’s like US$ 32. That’s it.

We also had 2 roller carry ons and 3 backpacks and a small bass ukulele.

The SisIL met us at the airport and took all the bags and backpacks and the wife and drive them to her place. Her husband is in bed — he’s a doctor and has to get up early. My son and I took the “Port Liner” transit to the main station in Kobe, Sannomiya.

There he and I caught the subway to the station near the SisIL house and then walked the 12 minutes to her house. It’s nice and refreshing out. Mid 50s but breezy and a mild sprinkle off and on though not while we were walking. The ground was wet and while driving in the port liner you got the sprinkle on the windshield.

The Port Liner is a rubber wheeled “train” that seems to be automatic. It has no driver. We sat in the front seat looking out and sat where the merge sexy driver station was. Looked like an old roller desk that was closed up.

The Sapporo subway is the same kind of rubber wheeled train but a heavier duty real subway sized. The Port Liner feels not as wide. The Port Liner is similar to the Yurikamome automatic train in Tokyo that goes out to Odaiba.

It’s 11:30pm and we’re all tired. Son is taking a shower.

I also got my second gachapon capsule toy on Sapporo today at a shopping arcade street (covered pedestrian street with stores along it). Not sure what it’s supposed to be but is cool. The pamphlet whth it shows a Chinese pork bun bamboo steamer basket and the tails of the pigs? Are various edible foods.

Here is out the front view of the Port Liner.

And our 737-800 from Skymark. I’ve had trouble trying to get any airliner pics except a quick in of the ones we’ve ridden. The terminal and gates we were at in Sapporo didn’t let you get close to the outer glass and the jet bridges were long so the planes were further away.

In Narita our gate area was just a bus stop for the bus tour to the plane parked on the tarmac so there were no glass windows to shoot plane pics out of. Hopefully when we fly out of Haneda I’ll be able to get some. It will be daylight.

This was the Kobe subway after we got off and it started to depart. Out where we are it’s above ground

Again. Sorry for the rotated pics. They look fine in my photos app and I’m inserting them directly from the photos library on my phone and it doesn’t let me rotate them. It’s like metadata on orientation is getting stripped out.

Good morning all!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Currently 29F heading up to a high of only 34F but it will be sunny. The winds have died down completely from yesterday, All in
all not a bad day weather wise. Still not sure how this winter storm is going to effect us. All the watches say is in excess of 6+ inches.
Should of got that snow blower ready last weekend but thought there was still time. I still have the lawn mower out Know what I will
be doing tomorrow.

Turkey and Ham are in the crock pots warming and the stuffing is being made along with the green Bean casserole. Someone else is doing the
mashed potato's and gravy this year. We are up to 24 people as of last night. Should be a fun day with plenty of food and family. People are
set to arrive around 11:30 or so. I think we are pretty much ready. Though we seem to forget something every year. Last year it was the Cranberry sauce.

Have a safe enjoyable day everyone!

So I just did a test. I downloaded the photo of the plane that I had inserted that was rotated incorrectly and saved it in the photos library album in my phone. I then went and looked at it.

It was rotated wrong. Like you guys see it. That tells me the forum software is stripping out metadata including orientation data that’s embedded in the pic so that the pic is shown in raw orientation.

I also figured out how to rotate the images in the photo library. I rotated the plane 90 degrees and that should have “fixed it” but when I did an insert into a reply it was rotated the same as I had done. It didn’t cancel out the original rotation.

I’ll blame the forum software for stripping out the orientation data and just using the “natural orientation”.

Back again. I just got off the phone with fellow forum member Chet (Montanan). He wishes everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. Please remember him in your thoughts and prayers. He is recovering from lung cancer surgery and is doing well. He would love to get back on the forum, but he has forgotten his password! He would like to offer some of his remaining train stuff for sale on the forum. Between Todd and me, all of the structures and most of his engines are gone, and I have some vehicles and figures; but he has a lot of rolling stock and vehicles left.
He misses everyone and the comradery here.
