Good Morning All. Happy Veterans Day to all who served our country. Clear and 39° here, that's 10° warmer than this time yesterday. Should return to the 70's today with 80's by Thursday. Next rain chance has been moved from Saturday to the following Wednesday. This weather is consistent with the usual La Niña weather pattern for winter. Warmer and dryer than average.

Speaking of parkas, yesterday started with jeans and sweat shirt but I had to switch back to shorts and tee shirt after lunch. Today will be shorts from the beginning. PT yesterday was exhausting as usual, but I didn't need any Tylenol afterwards so all was good. Italian sausage and peppers was for supper.
I start early this morning with a 9:30 appointment at the Electrocardiologist's office where the NP will discuss the results of my month-long heart monitor adventure during October. I already have an ablation procedure scheduled for next month since all are sure that it will be needed. I'm sure that we'll proceed since I know that I had one atrial flutter episode while wearing the monitor.

Since the PT sessions take a good hunk of the afternoon, I had just a short time out in the train shed yesterday. Back to the window's for Addam's Ave part 3. I posted yesterday that I had trimmed down the window sills on the 6 windows on the "Palace" side that were just not right. the one on the right is the trimmed down version.View attachment 247674
I got the remaining curved-top clear styrene cut and glued into the remaining 6-single windows and started on the double arches. Not easy and not perfect.

Having trouble with the tops matching the curves exactly. Then I realized that there will be awnings on those 4-units which will hide any imperfect cuts, so with that realization, I relaxed my expectations! After the last one, I thought that I could have just done more of the singles and doubled up...that would have been easier.
Curtains/shades will be next before installation. I did cut out the roof. Despite my best efforts to keep the structure square while assembling, it is slightly off. Not noticeable unless one is looking straight down from above and maybe not then after the roof is installed and detailed.

Patrick - Has your son considered removing all of the old siding completely and installing proper insulation from the outside?
Michael - The Busch structure looks good and is coming along nicely.
John - With me, it's not so much getting down and under the layout to do wiring, it's moving everything that's under there out of the way first! Fortunately I haven't had to do much since I built the layout to begin with.
Terry - It's not often that your temperature is lower than mine at this time of year.
Tom O - That switcher looks like something that our late friend Gregg from Milwaukee, would have had on his layout. He favored rust buckets.

Appropriately enough for Veteran's Day, today is George Patton's birthday. Born in 1885, he died 80 years ago. As far as I can remember, it was still called Armistice Day during his lifetime.

Everyone have a great Tuesday and remember to thank all veterans today...and every day.
Yes he loved rust. We talked about him sending one of his switchers to me to give it the Milwaukee Road look of 1980. Rusted but still chugging along. That was about a month before his passing. A real good guy gone too soon

QUESTION for the Crew!

How do you dispose of your used knife blades?

The small white prescription bottle and 2 others are full and my local pharmacy stopped accepting them as of 5/1/2025

I really dislike wasting time and materials but the Enginehouse/Shed turned into a fiasco!

Like cutting lumber measure twice and cut once. You need to do that for styrene also but

I didn’t double verify the measurements I was using to cut the styrene for the shed and it bit me. Sometime after dinner and before watching the 1st quarter of the Packer embarrassment I thought the shed looked too small to house a 1965 era switcher and that late instinct was correct. Too short and doorway not wide enough.

While not a complete loss it did deplete my supply of Evergreen #4526 siding sheet. It will be used as a utility shed somewhere on my Wisconsin Interstate.

Now to start over for the engine shed for my friend’s Great Northern and Friends—Wanatachee West

Just a tad bigger than the now utility type shed worked on yesterday

My shopping list for Hiawatha Hobbies is getting larger for the stop tomorrow

Dream BIG. You will surprise yourself were you end.
Travel First Class. You deserve it.
The last time I flew first class the connecting flight from Cincinnatit to Akron was a small prop-plane. Being as tall as I am the stewardess had me sit in front with her. She was a beautiful young lady, but I was married to my first wife. As much as I wanted to, I declined to go to lunch with her. It was a perfect opportunity; I was free until the next morning. But my honor outweighed lust.

Now that conjures up a romantic statement.
I would say the beautiful young stewardess took a shine to you (not your height). 🥰

I have an old Planter's Peanut can with a hole cut into the plastic top, marked "Sharps". Whenever I go to the recycling place with scrap metal, I include it's contents with other ferrous metals. Not worth a lot of money in itself, doubt that I even get a penny, but it's the recycling that counts for me.
Thanks! I did check will our local recycler a few months ago and the person on the phone said NOT to put them in the recycling bin. I can call a local scrap yard and see what they say.

I spent the last two days finally adding the details and decals to my HO D51. The loco came with some handrails, decals and number plates. I bought the upgrade kit which included the snow plow and more bits and pieces. I also bought the last upgrade kit which included the Nagano smoke collector for the chimney, different number plates and decals. With their wonderful directions, I couldn't figure out half of this stuff, so most of the time was spent searching for what this stuff was really supposed to look like. After fruitless hours of searching (either nobody has done this or are not willing to share), I went to u-toob and found some running videos. Took a lot of screen shots for reference.

Now, whenever I touch this thing, something breaks off. I have to remove the smoke collector before placing this in a cradle as the control rods are way too fragile. I've broken the snow plow off already while adding the cylinder decals on. This was the Friday night decal crew BTW.

I don't know why I do this to myself... haha
