Have a safe day everyone.

Good morning and thank you to the Veterans.

The actual temperature is 26f/-3c right now at 5:31am with the wind at 12mph it actually feels like 10 heading this afternoon to a nice sunny 42/5. If it wasn’t for the winds it would be a nice morning, to a Wisconsinite!

Troy , best to your wordsmithing today

I spend a crazy amount of time in the train room yesterday, just over 8 hours spread out between 9am and 10:30pm. After the 1st quarter I walked away from watching the Packer/Eagle game. I did spray 6 ethanol tank cars with the 1st hit of matte clear. The double track through girder kit-bashed bridge is all glued together and while I’m not 100% happy with it, it does looks good and will do the job. I also started working on the engine house for my friend’s paper mill. I glued the walls glued together in the morning. tThen after I walked away from the TV last night I laminated the only sheet of corrugated siding I have to the walls. I measured way too many times before I laminated the siding as I couldn’t believe I had enough.

Today I’ll change the temporary foam piers I made yesterday into styrene ones and prime them and the girder bridge. I will triple check the bridge trackage for fit and if it’s right weather the bridge track. After the primer dries I will spray the base color on the girder approach bridge and the big Swing Bridge. I will work on the roof of the engine shed. I have to cut the underlayment, dry fit it and glue it. The tough decision is the roofing material. Tar paper, sheet metal panels, corrugated roofing (different from the siding) or shingles. Since this is a surprise bonus for my friend’s paper mill I’ll decide.

I will tag along to an unusual Tuesday grocery run. Spend $150 today only with a coupon and get $1.50 off per gallon of gas. Then a quick stop to the Pharmacy for the latest change in prescriptions. The 1st Friday of the month I send in my previous month’s glucose daily readings, the weight and blood pressure via the MyChart medical portal. All electronically gathered but I still have to hit send. It’s a toughie for me but I ‘m up for it. Besides it’s on my calendar on the phone. Then my 2 main doctors review it and then they practice! It’s what doctors do

Enjoy your day

Good Morning All. Happy Veterans Day to all who served our country. Clear and 39° here, that's 10° warmer than this time yesterday. Should return to the 70's today with 80's by Thursday. Next rain chance has been moved from Saturday to the following Wednesday. This weather is consistent with the usual La Niña weather pattern for winter. Warmer and dryer than average.

Speaking of parkas, yesterday started with jeans and sweat shirt but I had to switch back to shorts and tee shirt after lunch. Today will be shorts from the beginning. PT yesterday was exhausting as usual, but I didn't need any Tylenol afterwards so all was good. Italian sausage and peppers was for supper.
I start early this morning with a 9:30 appointment at the Electrocardiologist's office where the NP will discuss the results of my month-long heart monitor adventure during October. I already have an ablation procedure scheduled for next month since all are sure that it will be needed. I'm sure that we'll proceed since I know that I had one atrial flutter episode while wearing the monitor.

Since the PT sessions take a good hunk of the afternoon, I had just a short time out in the train shed yesterday. Back to the window's for Addam's Ave part 3. I posted yesterday that I had trimmed down the window sills on the 6 windows on the "Palace" side that were just not right. the one on the right is the trimmed down version.

I got the remaining curved-top clear styrene cut and glued into the remaining 6-single windows and started on the double arches. Not easy and not perfect.

Having trouble with the tops matching the curves exactly. Then I realized that there will be awnings on those 4-units which will hide any imperfect cuts, so with that realization, I relaxed my expectations! After the last one, I thought that I could have just done more of the singles and doubled up...that would have been easier.
Curtains/shades will be next before installation. I did cut out the roof. Despite my best efforts to keep the structure square while assembling, it is slightly off. Not noticeable unless one is looking straight down from above and maybe not then after the roof is installed and detailed.

Patrick - Has your son considered removing all of the old siding completely and installing proper insulation from the outside?
Michael - The Busch structure looks good and is coming along nicely.
John - With me, it's not so much getting down and under the layout to do wiring, it's moving everything that's under there out of the way first! Fortunately I haven't had to do much since I built the layout to begin with.
Terry - It's not often that your temperature is lower than mine at this time of year.
Tom O - That switcher looks like something that our late friend Gregg from Milwaukee, would have had on his layout. He favored rust buckets.

Appropriately enough for Veteran's Day, today is George Patton's birthday. Born in 1885, he died 80 years ago. As far as I can remember, it was still called Armistice Day during his lifetime.

Everyone have a great Tuesday and remember to thank all veterans today...and every day.

My respects to all that served. You've earned a whole lot more than today.

I received this email from Bar Mills today. Just an FYI

Thank you to all who have served to protect and honor our country. As a ‘Thank You!’ from us, all orders placed today (except our holiday kit) using coupon code THANKYOU15 will receive 15% off the order.

Good morning and Happy Veterans Day for those who served.

34°F out there this morning with an overcast sky. Love these kinds of days. No snow around here though, and it's supposed to be 75°F in about five days, but I'll believe that when I read it on the thermometer.

Back in the train room to work on the feed & seed business in a short while as I load up on some more coffee.

As much as I like the third logo, I'm leaning towards the first because of the colors. I scaled this down to HO size last night and I don't think it will matter much which one I chose because you can't read any of them at that size. There will be some slightly larger signs for the side of the building (or end) and one for the side of the road.

Thanks for your opinions on the sign. The AI generator I used had five pages of 20 on a page of these. I eventually just had to pick a few because the selection was so great I had a difficult time making up my mind.

Have a great Veteran's Day everyone.

Servus.

It’s currently 34, I expect to see people in parkas today…
It was 33 this morning and blustery. I was expecting to see Winne the Pooh and Tiger too!

I am still wearing black shorts. Although I did have on a tanktop, orange long-sleeved shirt, an orange t-shit and a baseball cap. I'll buy a coffee for anyone who can guess what kind of baseball hat I had on.

I used to say it's not cold until it gets into single digits. My hands no longer agree with that. Which is why I had on black gloves that allow me to still use the phone.

Patrick - Has your son considered removing all of the old siding completely and installing proper insulation from the outside?
Yeah. This.

And maybe those foam insulation where they poke a hole in the wall and push it in? Could be done from the outside properly? Then exterior based insulation could be added before the new siding.

I don’t really know what I’m talking about but a well insulate home is far cheaper to heat and cool over its lifetime. And also probably easier to sell if he ever needs to move.

A great Veterans Day to all, especially the Veterans. Thanks for stepping up.

And while (at least in the US) there is another day to remember the fallen, let’s especially remember those veterans who gave their all and paid the final price. Especially in the Great War (given the history of this day).

For all you freezing folks, it was already 56F at 9am, from a low of 43F overnight. Still another day or two of low to mid 60s before a cold front and rain and maybe even some frozen stuff falls.

Speaking of freezing. Less than two weeks before the wife and I fly to Hokkaido Japan to get our son, spend a week and at half touring (though only about 3 days in Hokkaido), and come back with him. The wife always starts to worry about clothes and packing a few weeks out before any trip. Especially to Japan. I told her I was going to wear my shorts on the plane (my only shorts though bad I’ve not traditionally been a shorts wearer though I like these). She started on about telling me we’re flying to Hokkaido. For those not familiar, Hokkaido is the frozen North of Japan, the north most island, and probably similar to Canada weather wise. Lots of snow and very very cold.

I told her it was fine. I’ll have an undershirt, a HEAT shirt, a t-shirt, and a light jacket (lol). Needless to say the conversation wasn’t that fruitful.

We’ll only be in Hokkaido for 3 days before flying to Kobe (near Osaka) for about 4 days and then a train ride to Tokyo for a few 3 days and our trip home. Those areas aren’t that cold. Winter hasn’t really started yet though. Right now at the Osaka Intl Airport at Itami it’s 48F at 1:30am per my weather app (the older airport in that area, Kansai International or KIX being the new one in the man made island in the Bay). So I’ll be Ok if I can survive Hokkaido and since I grew up in New England back when it got snowy and icy and cold there I should be able to handle it. Though temp tolerance does go down as you get older I’ve found.
