FANTASTIC NEWS FOR ME as of Saturday Nov 1st my car and truck's clock displayed the correct time again. I wish I would have known this before showing up for church Sunday at 11am thinking my auto's clocks were and hour behind. Swal

Good Morning All!
34F @ 80% overcast. Maybe 40F later. Supposed to be white coming down right now then change to rain. See no white or rain for that matter.

We only had one clock to change. Range clock. At least it is easy-peasy. Don't care about the clock in the Exped...

Gawd, called NAPA for the pads for the Expedition - $150 for front and rear. Checked Amazon - $68 for both and they were Bendix. Have to wait a few days, but for ~$80 difference, I can wait. Did not check RockAuto this time.

Got an email from NMRA hawking their new logo and site. What a POS ( my view ). Wonder what that cost the members?

Get to work on installing the sliding barn door for the Chick/Goat house. Think that I have figured out how to *mostly* insulate it. Brush Insulation. Top and sides look pretty straight forward. Door sticks out from the wall 1 1/2 inches, so the brush thingies need to be that minus half the door width or 1 1/8". Can handle that with 1/4" furring strips under the brush thingies as I can not find any with more than 1" height. The bottom of the thing may be a PITA as the door is on the outside wall. It is a barn and needs some airflow. We will see.

Time change on the truck is funny. As you make the change (simple enough with the Hour and Minute buttons). it says AM or PM while the change is happening, but when the truck is turned on, nowhere does it show anything but the 12 hour time. No AM or PM ever displayed. Wonder why GM did that.

Yea, vehicle clocks are quirky things!

Both of our vehicles are Chrysler products both with Uconnect. My Jeep did the change automatically by itself. My wife's Pacifica did not
change on its own and it took me quite a while scrolling thru the menu to find out how to change it. Not sure why one does it automatically
and the newer on doesn't.

On MRH Forums they were discussing the logo change. I’m not a member so I have no voice and no need to express an opinion. The cost of the logo was questioned. A reply quoted Gordy Robinson, the president who says:

We did not use member dues to pursue this project. NMRA has ample, seven-figure cash reserves derived in part from donations, estate bequests, and shrewd investments over decades. The fees that the design firm charged came at a heavily discounted rate. The amount we drew from those savings to pay for the design firm is not material to the organization’s operation and will be reflected in the CFO’s annual report delivered in January 2026. As with all NMRA projects, 90% of the work is done by volunteers.

So interesting! Seems to imply doesn’t cost members anything, but the nothing is dues members. So I guess using other types of money NMRA has access doesn’t mean anything

I read most of that thread thru out the day yesterday. It was really entertaining reading how heated people were over it. I'm so glad
we don't get that shook up here about things concerning the hobby.

I see it was locked as of early this morning but in his infinite wisdom JoeF created a new thread with a poll, so I'm guessing it will
spill on to that thread and get locked as well.

Got out to walk around 9:15am. Already 58F at that time but it didn’t get below mid 40s over night. Blue skies but those higher thin cloud fields here and there. Some had a tinge of grey but they’re not the big billowy cumulus clouds. Either stratus or altostratus. Hard to judge height. The form looked more altostratus but height I could not tell. It was still 58F when I got back an hour later.

Ok I can’t stand it any longer. My bench is beyond my normal mess. So it’s clean up time. I have projects still here that belong on the finished shelf
IMG_2584.jpeg

I have 42 pieces of rolling stock to be weathered that should have moved to the spray booth storage area last week
IMG_2585.jpeg

But No, let’s clean the bin storage area next, no before pictures as I think I shocked myself I went there. But it’s better! Those are all Christmas bins below. The top shelf is some Christmas stuff on the far end that won’t fit in bins. The rest are bins of decor items for the rest of the seasons
IMG_2586.jpeg

Then I broke down boxes after guessing if I needed to save them. I kept 10 assorted sizes mainly from Amazon delivered to Terry. She buys more on Amazon and Kohls in a month than I do in 5 years. Boxes to ship out in are plenty. That L’S box is a seasonal wreath, not Christmas. Above that are 10 boxes for shipping my weathering commissions out in.
IMG_2587.jpeg

I broke them down and sliced them up per local recycling regs, this is box 2
IMG_2589.jpeg

All paper fill was recycled, this wouldn’t fit in a box I filled. I will add to box 2 of the boxes I cut up and recycled.
IMG_2588.jpeg

These are left over recycled floor pads from a friends layout we tore down last year. That’s next, sort, toss and recycle. I had already used what I needed
IMG_2590.jpeg

And that work bench, it still looks like this

Ya, was a member a few years back and was thinking of rejoining again. But, to me that $75 a year ( paper copy, I like paper copies ) for the content provided was high for what you get.

And what a word salad from the Pres.... So they have green money, yellow money and [pick your fav] money. Maybe on paper that can be, but in reality it is in a big pile ( or piles ) somewhere. Must be magic...

As to the logo in question. Guess that you get a logo design with discounted thought too. Bet CSX will have a say sooner or later. Well, unless Uncle Pete takes over.

We've been seeing a lot of bear reports on tv. And then yesterday, they show that bear tastes good. I wouldn't mind trying.
My aunt and her husband are homesteaders up in Alaska. (He was one and his first wife died of cancer and he came down to civilization and met my Aunt and took her back to Alaska). They've shot many bear that have tried to ransack their fish camp and garden. They don't waste it. She came to visit once a couple decades ago and brought us a home-canned jar of bear meat. I think it got thrown out after she left. It didn't look appetizing canned in the jar but I'd not be surprised if it was pretty good fresh. But needs to be well cooked. I've heard they are often full of parasites.

My son up in Hokkaido has said that some people they were visiting lived near where there have been a bunch of bear sightings near Sapporo. They were advised to not be outside in that area after dark... I guess the bears in Hokkaido are a type of Brown Bear, unlike the black bears on the main Japanese island.

So yesterday's tv had a report of a guy, whose wife was murdered 26 years ago, that kept the apartment for those 26 years until the police were finally able to catch up and solve the case. When it happened, they couldn't figure it out, either due to the technology, training or whatever. The husband kept the apartment in the same condition as it had been, preserving the crime scene as well as creating a time capsule. They were finally able to get a DNA match and make an arrest. Wow.

I didn't realize they had brown bears as I've only been seeing black ones on tv. They were all kinda small though.

Yeah, I see a lot of canning videos from folks in Alaska. I guess it keeps well.

Yeah the brown bears are only on Hokkaido. And from what I read, if I didn't misunderstand, they were the only bears in Hokkaido. Black being on Honshu.

My wife is convinced that the increases in bear sighting in Japan, especially in Hokkaido, is because, of all the habit-encroachment as they massacre wild areas to install solar farms. Especially in Hokkaido. Cutting down forests, and chopping tops off mountains to install the solar farms (which is stupid). I'm not saying she is wrong -- I've just not found much commentary to support her idea though it makes sense (and I have not been looking for it either)
