Finding stuff in boxes

Not railway items, but stuff collected or saved by parents etc.
Items from WW1 and the Boer War (South Africa) and of a local mining accident were interesting.

The old photographs of friends long gone just had to go. (There were loads of them. People we never knew)
The broken this, broken that. One day they'll get fixed and never was. Out they went.

Dawn has said since, we had to clear out our 'old tat' and not leave it to our children to do. She is right off course. Things that we no longer need or use. Items we liked at the time, but clutter the place now.

Off course we keep the sentimental stuff that is precious to us. Letters my mum and dad wrote to each other during WW2. Certain jewellery ( not precious, but mean a lot.) The railway items have to stay. They are precious. 🤣

Morning all, (well barely)

Been busy since I got in, fortunately nothing earth shattering, just stuff needing to be done. Makes the day go quicker.

Currently 47° going for a high of 50°. Not supposed to get much warmer in the near term.

Willie: Don't blame me. It was Guy's fault for not shutting the door when he was here last. 😁

Still have a Christmas flag and wreaths to hang on Friday when it is no longer Thanksgiving. But that's about 15 minutes. Most of my weekend will be painting the bedroom as I think it's nearly ready.

Good morning all, from a cool and very windy Houston. Our forecast is to remain on the cool side for the next 5 days. There is a possibility of rain on Thanksgiving Day. Not a lot happening here at the hobo camp. Did manage to mow and edge the yard yesterday, now all that remains is to pick all the pine cones these winds re knocking down. No trains as I'm assisting with housework before the onslaught of people Thursday. Tomorrow I'll do a turkey breast. Thay way on Thanksgiving we only need to reheat stuff. We have 2 ovens, but when 10 people need to use a oven it gets hectic.

James - That picture says it all.
Bill - You certainly find some unique photos to post,
David - Playing dr. and nurse, you old rascal you.

It was, when it was. Then it wasn't, when more better stuff came out.
I thought my Pentium-III desktop was great, with a 750mhz clock speed, and something like 256Mb RAM. And I thought I'd never fill up that huge 2GB HDD...
"It was, when it was. Then it wasn't, when more better stuff came out."

Perfectly said and the better stuff seemed like it came out every week.

Well howdy there internet peeplez!

It's Troy again.

Been working in the basement hobby space since we've got guests coming over in two days.

With the big mass of floaters in my left eye, I'm avoiding the detail work needed to paint my orcs. Instead, I cleaned up a bunch of foam board that has been in progress for the gaming table. Found a cool technique for making rocky hills that are still playable and easily transportable.

Here they are after the first coat of mat black paint. After touch ups, I'll do a wet-brush (more than a heavy dry brush) of grey over that, and add some colored grout powder.

At first glance I thought they were Berger cookies, wishful thinking.

It's the holidays, I have cookies on my mind, and I can't have any because I am diabetic. But I can look! :D

Afternoon All,

Started out today with a walk at 68F and damp. Like yesterday I spent most the morning doing house chores in prep for turkey day. In the train room I glued the N scale rail to the beams leaving and inch overhanging both ends and braced them to the end legs. After that I glued the winch on the bottom of the shuttle assembly, and finally attached the hook to the chain. I think one more session and this project will be done.

Hughie- I don't see (get it? ;)) how you can do N scale. The size is too small for me.

Troy- I didn't know that vitreous fluid could separate from the retina.

Louis- I believe the happy and sad, but I think it's mainly sad.:(

Karl- Great photo of your son.

David- True words about technology. I don't get anything new unless the old tech is dead.

Bill- Great photos.

I hope everyone has a good night.

My wife and I finished our thanksgiving shopping today. I bought two more turkeys; I now have four in my freezer. I'm a sucker for a bargain! I have close to 90lbs of frozen turkeys in my chest freezer. All purchased at $0.37/pound, about $32 total for nearly 90lbs of turkey. My smoker is going to be busy this coming spring and summer.

My wife taps me on the shoulder in the bakery and asks me "what are you doing?" I'm looking at all the good stuff I can't eat. I also took her down to the chips and snack isle with me.

Am I the only one who enjoys looking at the stuff I can't eat in the store?
