Good morning from Wisconsin where sometime this afternoon we should top out around 55f degrees. It is very clear and the high winds of the week seem to be calm today.

Today is another Walthers day of the sales event. $10 off Scenemaster items if you spend $50. I tested it and by golly it works for me but I cancelled the test as I don’t need anything at this time

I still am not feeling 100% with today a dry throat but the warm diet Dr Pepper heated in a sauce pan with some lemon is being helpful.

Terry and her 2 friends today are leaving the islands and will be heading for 2 nights in Pasadena at my sister’s. I spent some of the 2 calls with my sister yesterday trying to get her to come here for Thanksgiving but her Parkinson’s is getting worst and she has a cold. But I will see her on the 30th in Carmel-by the Sea, California. That’s the final golf outing for 2023. My sister will join Terry, my niece, our daughter, granddaughter and the daughter’s friend Sara will also be there. Starting in 2024 I will take over the organization of the golf events for 3 years with help from the daughter, Sara and 2 others. I am looking forward to this and the future events. 16 events next year with smaller fields but more often than the past. I am thinking that 7 events is my number for 2024.

Not 100% sure what I will do this afternoon or evening. All the grocery shopping is done. The outdoor Christmas lights and things are completed. I will light them up on Friday after T-Giving.

enjoy the day

Morning sports fans- looks like a day of football. I watched the Georgia game yesterday as my Son in Law is a graduate of that establishment and an avid fan.
Today we are at 55 degrees and looking for a 68 high with partly sunny and a chance of showers. (Please note that showers out here are sprinkles back there!)

Besides maybe watching a game today, I will be trying to make a few small repairs around the house.

SWAL - sorry about the stove.

TomO - sorry you are a little under this morning

Good Morning All. Mostly cloudy and 55°, still supposed to rain today according to the forecast, but maybe not. Right now it looks like it's battering Patrick and areas north of Oklahoma City with just scattered small cells 40-50 miles west of here. It was great to have sunshine all day yesterday.

Yesterday was a productive but uninteresting day. I did a lot of yardwork, including gathering up many leaves and moving them to the garden. I won't till them in until some time next week along with the leftover wood ashes from last season, compost and an aged load of shredded tree limbs from the power company. My soil always benefits from organic matter worked in since it is heavy black clay to begin with. Neighbor has been promising to bring a couple of large bales of spoiled hay down, but he hasn't had the energy - he's 81. Not too sure about today, it depends on the rain. I might just have time to add another post to my layout thread.

I didn't spend a lot of time out in the train shed yesterday, taking advantage of the weather instead. What time I did spend out there was used to continue work on two projects, more fencing was done around the oil distributor; it's now 3/4 completed. I also added those figures to the Nine Mile House Tavern that I posted last week.

I'll be putting a printed bar backdrop into the interior as soon as I find a suitable one. I may have one already downloaded, or I'll find one on the Internet.

Walther's Customer Service - My experience with them has always been positive. I haven't often called, the previous time was over 15 years ago; but I had to call about six months ago. I spoke with a very pleasant young lady who was obviously not overseas, and she resolved my issue (sent a missing part) swiftly.
Mincemeat pie - Haven't had any since my mother passed away in 1994. While they were OK, I haven't had any desire to make or have any since then.
David -
Customer Service.
The Government is talking of getting firms to improve customer service. Possible fines for poor service.
Funny how things can get bad then the Government (all parties) say things need improving when an election is on the horizon.
I am always concerned when the Government gets involved in things. They'll spend excessive money studying stuff and won't accomplish anything.

Everyone have a great day today. It does appear that it has started sprinkling.

I think the Volt was Chevy's first all electric car, GM did not embrace Hybrids like Toyoda did. Karl would know for sure. They have been around for a while.
There's some confusion about it. I'm pretty sure the Bolt is the new bug-ridden all electric car, though the Volt may have been available as electric-only. I've tried to stay as far away from them as I can possibly get...

Very likely that will be the result. Poor customer service is the result of corporate arrogance and cost containment...that applies to those so called "small business enterprises", most of which are incorporated, and some of which are rather sizable. The government, on the other hand, has no Idea what causes the problem, but arrogantly creates what it thinks is the solution, then heavy handedly enforces the "their" solution. Problem solved. 🙀😾

Speaking of College Football, the Villanova Wildcats closed out their season with a resounding 35 - 7 victory over Joe Brandon's Alma Mater, the University of Delaware. Way to go cats! BTW, Brandon will turn 81 tomorrow, 11/20/23. Villanova finished their regular season with a 9-2 record.

Looks like everyone will be here for Thanksgiving, weather (and health) permitting. Got to start vacuuming as soon as I'm finished here. Most of our shopping is finished, we do have to go to ShopRite Tuesday Morning, for the rest.

Making slow progress on the layout.

Almost completed Fabricating and machine Shop - "Penn Steel Castings Co." - only the stairway from the second floor offices remains, along with weathering - Identical building to the right was built 20 years ago, and is naturally weathered. 😼 Crane canopy is next. Some re-engineering required to work around coil loading track.

Afternoon All,

Started out the day with a walk at a chilly 61F under clear skies. I did several small chores, watched a movie (lazy day) then headed upstairs for planning and adding a couple details to the shuttle. Tomorrow, I need to head to the LHS for a piece of N scale track for the crane wheels to sit on. My HO just looks too big to me. I think I'm within a couple of days of finishing the project-finally. I'll post pictures when complete.

The car has new tires and is driveable. :) The van is getting a new alternator. The shop says it'll be done by COB (5 pm) but I have my doubts. I expect Monday. The HOA lights only have one side working (the side I did) but MOH didn't want to deal with them today.

Sherrel- The soup sounds good.

Willie- I don't think Sherrel is quite that old:D. Very nice detailing.

Swal- That would really piss me off.

David- Hard to believe that was over 400 years ago.

Karl- I hope you had fun today.

Joe- Nice job on the buildings.

TomO- I hope you feel better.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Protestant sect, known as The Pilgrim Fathers
David, I was always under the impression they were connected to Oliver Cromwell's "Puritans", fleeing regime change in England.

They preceded, William Penn's Quakers relocating to what us now Pennsylvania, by about 23 Years, (1643) also fleeing a hostile regime . and Cecil Calvert's Roman Catholic colonists by 14 years, ( Maryland in 1634).

The unsuccessful Roanoke Colony of 1585 led to the Virginia, (Jamestown) Colony of 1607, but Plymouth is attributed to be the first and the basis for the Thanksgiving Celebration.

Growing up in Pennsylvania, we naturally learned more about Penn and the Quakers, which ignored the reality that the area was already settled by Native Tribes, Governor Johan Printz' Swedes and the Dutch.

I should have paid closer attention to this fascinating history, and the events behind it. Thanks for posting that.

Curt the problem is the granite countertop company is meagering for their template on Tuesday and I would like to have the stove in place for the measurement. It's also not good to be without a stove on Thanksgiving. The delivery part of Home Depot has one job to make sure every item out for delivery is on the truck and not damaged. I guess they have no check list procedure in place for this to happen. We forgot to put the stuff you ordered on the truck. That's your only job what's the problem?

No, the Volt had both, electric and battery power. On a fully charged battery the car can be all electric until extra power is demanded or battery gets low, then the gas engine kicks in.

The Bolt is all electric, as is the Bolt EUV, its slightly bigger brethren. Yes the Bolts had battery issues, that the Bolt EUV has mostly avoided. I've driven both the Bolt and the Bolt EUV and they drive fine, just eerily quiet. I can see where they can be a great commuter car, but I'll keep my truck.

Local train show report.

Lots of Lionel, lots of ho cars I already have at good, but not great prices. I did manage to score terminal strips at a buck a bundle, 3 Atlas freight cars, a Spectrum F7B unit dummy(already sacrificed for parts) and the framed Western Maryland K2 Pacific pic all for 50 bucks.

Not bad, not bad at all.

Nice haul!

That picture will look good in the train room!
