Not sure what ya mean.
I was hauling the wood to my daughter's house.
I think he’s like Tesla modern ev pulling wood old fashion basic, the thing is if we have the solar it is plentiful summer,, up and done autumn and spring but scarse winter, I have 29.6kw of the kit but the last week I have used the tesla several times but so much cloud means only got free 50 miles I actually had to buy some electric, but I use wood in the winter to offset my lack of solar, so doh using the Tesla to shift wood is in fact efficient, and electricity is still far cheaper than petrol or diesel and free wood for if you cut your own as we do and transporting to his daughter totally makes sense, if he had to pay the fuel costs of a greedy 4x4 petro or diesel chugger it just would not be as cost effective. Ot cost me 6 pounds to add 80 miles plus free 50 miles when sunny, how much would 130 miles cost you on a petrol/diesel making the cost of transporting the wood to daughter more costly. It might have been cheaper in his Y to load up the boot minus the trailer anytime he visits daughter but that’s a different duiscussion.
plus summer if he can cut his wood, and has solar free to dry his wood he vastly reduces buying in wood, win win.
we never bothered removing fallen wood in our arboretum until we put in the wood stoves so there’s a lot of wood we can now store in the polytunnel, yes it needs time to dry but it’s free,as we dithered over installing ther wood we took no heed of getting the wood in when the summer was hot so we have bought in 5 tonne…oops shot ourselves in the foot but ho-efully next year we will be ahead of the game
solar. Summer. spring. Autumn. Winter
more than we can use ups and downs ups and downs. Low sun less even if no cloud
Do travelling whilst free
wood. No heating so use free. Ups and downs. Ups and downs. Low sun use more wood
Elec. use wood when no elec. Heat house if cold otherwise
Use solar while sun shines cook when cooking heats house
early. Enough so not burning continuously
Avoid travel if no free
Unless very cold
we also use battery operated tools and are considering a battery electric ev tractor,as the fuel saving long term
will be worth the investment approx 30,000 and we would use it most summer, and shifting wood spring autumn,
far less in winter which is also when low solar. And grass not growing as fast anyway.
n.b. The initial purchase is higher of course but our solar original said 12 years to payback and the higher fuel costs have reduced this looking at 8 years or better to cover set up costs then actually free.
I suspect that the real low food days are a thing of the past as is the low cost fuel days, our money is likely going to go less further rfor some time to come. and cold winters are going to be costly. But for third world countries the crunch will cost lives.
At present using the polytunnel to store and dry wood is more cost effective than growing food,so we will balance doing both,at present we have the smaller ducklings penned in their two as its warmer. the earlier babies are with the adults and having to compete.
all things are a balance
but as we do goats and birds as a hobby and do not sell they are only viable while we have spare cash each month,if things get tight we will have to cull birds and eat them, goats too, bees feed themselves and we get honest, but this year they were left as my recovery means no time to uptake the honey or stop swarming, good for bee numbers though.
ho hum, everything is a balance
