Not quite as hot as the fires of Hell.
Oh, Flo. Let me have a...double shot of smokin' hot.... No...not the Java. Too weak. No, not the Jamoke. Something hotter....

Watch that video!

Yeah! That's it! Gimme a double shot of full caffeine. And at Lava--aka: "Slag Hot"--temperature, please. :D

-----

What? No, thanks dear. No cream and no sugar.

No...no Danish either. I'm watching my weight.

No, just the lava.

Terry! :D

I need you to put your computer consultant's hat on.

What is a good photo/video editing software?
One the better known ones is "[the] Gimp." FREE. Works similarly to Photoshop. Also runs on Linux PC's, and not just Windows PC's.

The Gimp has been used for video (animations), and, while not done with the pure power-rendering prowess of a studio like Pimax, I understand it does pretty well there too (I have NOT tried it. I've only read about it).

There are a few big, thick books which go into some deep details about the functions and choices, and they are usually available at a nominal cost.
Sorta like "Windows for Dummies"...except smarter. And comprehensive too, which is the real point.

For those of you worried about me "researching" for the next book here in Sin City

We're going to the Mob Museum here in Vegas tomorrow. That's as close to "researching" this city's vices as I'll get. 😜
What? You aren't gonna dive down into Al Capone's secret vault? :D

Cue and channel now SNL's Emily Litella/Gilda Radner:

Oh...Vegas. That awful place that shows "sex and violence! And on TV!"

===========

Annnd...cuuueeee another throwback moment:

"Uh...Emily," (Chevy Chase talking to Emily being Emily Litella..again, from SNL...). That's not "sex and violence. It's sax and violins. Saxaphone...and violins. Not Sex and Violence."

"Oh...".and you know the rest.

And if you don't.......look her up. :D

Dang, that Chris Pratt should win a trophy for doing mouth on mouth with that Jennifer Lawrence. She is one nasty woman.
Before or after he had all his teeth knocked out? (See: "Wanted." James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie...and Chris Pratt, of course)
But in any case I agree. All those four letter words leave a bad taste in your mouth, and she just can't stop a-spewin' em. Sorta like a gal who chain-smokes.

It's a sad thing that so many of the "beauties" are so brain dead and hateful. Today, anyway.

-----

This didn't happen back in Audrey Hepburn's* day. SHE went on to a life of help and hope to others--her work with UNICEF.

[* Also known as (to me anyway), "the finest beauty who ever lived. Both inside and out."]

Can't see that happening again, somehow, not with the likes of JL and all too many other's of today's "stars" and "models."

Well, I thought I was adjusting to Pacific desert time. Nope. Hit the pillows at 8:30 local and awake at 1:30 local which is my 4:30 am Eastern time zone.

I feel for the Brits and other Europeans here for the conference.

While I haven't met many "Famous" Steven-King-level authors, I do have a few friends out here that might be of interest to some of you:

For Military SciFi, check out Jonathan Brazee, Craig Martelle

If you're into westerns, check out Wolf-Pack Publishing. Their head honcho on the publishing side is here. Good fellow, treats his authors right.

If you've got a genre or two you like to read, and want some indie authors to follow ("Indie" meaning we publish without one of the big five. We cover costs of editing, cover design, and marketing... but get to keep a full 70% commission on ebooks and 40% on print books. Big 5 give authors 10%, but only after their advances earn out. Which can take years for even a small advance).

Well, gotta drink another bottle of water, since I'm in the desert and talking myself horse each day. Then I'll try for a few more hours of shut-eye

Good morning! Woke up before the alarm and went to sit in my favorite chair with my dog in my lap and watch the sun come up.

My dog looks forward to sitting on my lap in this chair because it has a great view, and I almost always see some deer passing through.

I put a bag of corn out for the deer a couple times a week.

Once in a while, Winston will get to chase deer. I don't want him to scare them away for good, but Winston loves it so much, I don't mind him harassing the deer every now and then.

Boy, in my neck of the woods the dog would get shot for chasing. The owner would get a talking to by fish and game for feeding deer. Deer brings in all of the other animals that like deer; coyote, wolf which then bring in bear and cats to take care of what the coyote/wolf doesn't eat. Pretty soon you are not on the top of the food chain cuz of the circus you have around ya. And then if you have small animals; cat, dog or ? ... they kinda disappear every once in awhile. Hopefully you do not have any small children.

Morning all,

27° and clear this morning. There was about 1/2" of the white stuff on grassy and elevated surfaces this morning, but the streets are clear and dry.
40° later today. Cold snap has my arthritis acting up. Thank goodness for the little maroon colored pills.

Didn't get back downstairs as the wife didn't want the daughter taking the grandson out to deliver the boy scout popcorn by herself. So by the time we finished that and got home, had supper, it was 9:00p.

Out of town daughter called last night, seems it took her a couple of months longer to catch the Vid than the rest of us. So far she's doing ok, just burning sinuses, which was a symptom I had. Still going there next week for Turkey I think. She wants to host this year. She does have the biggest house. We'll see.

Broke one of my ideals yesterday and listened to some Christmas music before Thanksgiving. Nothing a little TSO or Manheim Steamroller won't cure.

Swal: Bathrooms are expensive. I was looking at $10,000 just to, IMO change our tub\shower fiberglass unit to a stand alone shower. Caveat was that we'd have to gut the small bathroom to make it work. It's just a simple 5'x8' bathroom.

Good Morning All. Mostly cloudy and 34°, brisk NW wind makes it seem like 27°. Today will not be as nice as the past few, with the high only around 50°. Rainfall total yesterday was just barely over a half inch. The wind today will continue until late afternoon, so maybe that will dry things out, a little. Next chance for rain won't be until Thanksgiving day. It will not warm up any time soon though. No chance of sunshine this week until Thursday which is a drag since I get moody without sunshine.

Picked up the new beer fridge yesterday, but it's still out in the car since I didn't want to move it 200' to the train shed in the drizzle. Meanwhile the drinks are staying cold on the porch out there. Mostly a busy day with small tasks on the trip to town. Went to the Sheriff's Dept to file our police report, after first filing it with the city - they couldn't accept it since we were technically outside of their city limits. Then went to the bank so they could complete the fraud report. Then it was over to the post office to pick up a package that wouldn't fit in our remote mailbox. Driving around in the crappy weather wasn't fun, but I couldn't really do anything outdoors at home until evening. So I grilled a steak for supper. My grill has to work 12 months a year.

Thanks for the reactions regarding yesterday's post.

Minimal train shed time yesterday, What little time that I had was spent clearing out the old beer fridge and the adjoining area. I'm sure that there are cobwebs behind it that I will find today.

Tom O - Too bad for the hockey team if that dad keeps violating the rule. Even I can begrudgingly use a plastic cup, or just get a six pack of cans!
Ken (D&J) - Doesn't seem like the Commanders want common folks to come to their games.
Dave B - I like the CREX warehouses.
James - Glad to read that your sister's surgery went well. I have noticed lately that the Post Office has been doing a great job. I don't know how much longer that will last with the holidays coming up.
Curt - "NE utopias" seems like an oxymoron to me. Kinda like "business ethics". We are also downsizing the Christmas tree this year.
Snowman - Local media is circulating an unconfirmed hypothesis that a medical issue with the pilot of the P-63 might have contributed to the accident. Again, that is unconfirmed.
Swal - Wow! $25K is a big chunk of cash. We were able to do a complete remodel of our master bathroom with all that you describe for about a third of that. We do have a second bathroom that we were able to use for three weeks.Good luck and prayers for your wife's recovery continue.

Everyone have a wonderful day.

nyc_george, don’t be too surprised by a $25,000 estimate. Check with a tax advisor if it’s a medically necessitated remodel it maybe tax deductible in your state. If the tax person says yes, have the doctors write the script or a letter that it’s needed.

Todd, yep same in Wisconsin. No dog chasing of deer but the previous administration cut the DNR so deep they won’t enforce it

JeffH, do you put the feed out all Winter?

Troy, are you basically in one hotel or are you having time to get around? The Vegas shows and the food places IMO are out of this world great, or were before Covid

Alcomotive, James I hope the news is good on your sister and dad

From the love seat in So. Central Wisconsin I can see the snow falling gently from a grey low sky. The grass is covered, the driveway is starting to have some coverage. The fields and paddocks south of the house, well the white ground now blends nicely with the white fencing. I see no horses out there this morning. It is 31f degrees feels like 25 and it is heading up to 35. Hopefully the white stuff melts before the next snow fall. Which the app says should happen this evening. I have (I think) 2 working out of 3 weather stations on the property. They are not showing any snow accumulation. When I inspect today, I will check them out. I have a third station that is waiting for a circuit board. Hey, I like my toys!

Back to being the property overseer today. After 7 full years of owning but we are in year 6 living on property, the daily regime is pretty set. The crews know what to do. The stables are cleared 1st of snow, then our house, the daughter’s place, the horses (most) going outside are blanketed and let out into the paddocks. There are a few horses the grooms will exercise in the arena. The trails will be checked later today but while we have coverage from the snowfall, there should not be much coverage in the woods. Terry has been spending time with the Vet who will take over the stables 2/1/2023. She will be fully licensed for Wisconsin in January. Above the Veterinary Clinic are 3 apartments. That is where she has been staying since she came here. She is going to move into the bigger apartment and offices above the stables. So in the spare time they have, she and Terry are going over design upgrades.

I started a weathering project yesterday in my Continuous weathering thread. Smudge617 helped get the weathering juices flowing by posting his 1st gondola weathering project. An excellent start by Chris. But and a big WOW to Airbrusg#5. He has his own thread as he weathers a ROCK gondola. The man has skills, check it out, a superb job being shown! I have a couple more pictures to add but I doubt I have time for more weathering today. The inside of the gondola is weathered and I started the fade process on one side of the car. No airbrush being used on this

enjoy the day

The convention is all in Bally's (soon to be renamed Horseshoe).

I wouldn't mind catching a show. But I don't want to blow the budget on it. And, with the other half about to head to LA with our friends - to go see the New Location of the lab she managed while in LA - I'd be in Dutch for going without her.

To be honest, I had way too much food when we were with our friends. They saved up all the good eats for our visit. So I'm just going wherever the group I'm sitting with goes for Lunch or Dinner. Last night was my own time, so I hit Johnny Rockets for a burger. Overpriced, but yummy.

I fly out on Friday from Vegas. Wife does the same, but from LAX. We're supposed to meet up in Minneapolis for a connecting flight back to Indiana - IF all the planes fly as scheduled.

Heading down to the town to see if I can get a building permit for a handicap bathroom, I plan on having installed. Looked at some handicap showers with seat, low-profile curb and glass sliding door. $3,000.00, The whole bathroom I'm thinking $25,000.00. I hope not?
Swal
Hmmm, if you are adding to the footprint of your house; building permit. If it is inside stuff and you are just remodeling, do you really need that permit? Once you get the .gov involved ( at least here ) you will now be at the beck and call of ALL of the trades - permit for plumbing, permit for electrical, don't know about framing/siding/wallboard AND each step will need to pass inspection before the next step. Me thinks that by the time everything is done, you wife will probably be out riding bikes?

They greyhounds awoke me early-ish SUnday night, about 2345 (11:45pm). Put 'em out and went to the bathroom. Returned to the back door and neither of them wanted in. Given the 22F temp, thought that a tad strange. Went for the flashlight (torch). Sure enough the younger, healthy one has a new 'toy.' The world has one less rabbit in it. But whilst trying to encourage him to leave it and get inside, the poor thing attempts an escape - to no avail. Hound starting to lose interest now, as the thing has no speed left. Out to the garage for outside shoes and gloves. Go pick up said bunny and put him over the fence. The four inches of snow cover up whether he limped off somewhere or if we'll find him in the spring. Gotta love greyhounds.

Starting to think serious about the LO, y'all, but life is so full. Yesterday, heard the powers-that-be identified a potential donor of a liver for my BIL. Such a mixed blessing. Means that somebody has to die for BIL to live. Good thing I am theologically trained for such dilemmas - - or am I?

EOS: Donor donated, transplant surgery successful, BIL coming around surprisingly quickly. But not outta the woods yet, as they say.

Trains: Did run the LO SUnday, but finding my bout with the 'vid seems to be hanging on. Not much energy and get winded/start coughing pretty easily. Was glad the Wild game was an early one Sunday. Wife looked rather oddly at me when I suggested we retire at 2015!

Have a blessed day, all! Steve J

Good morning all, 27° and light snow falling, got about 2" very fluffy stuff overnight, slow drive in to work today mainly due to slippery conditions.

Nothing too exciting going on, got to a point on the layout where nothing is really "pressing" to get done, however have 3 buildings to assemble and stage, lots of time to get it done, however

Took this pic last night, seed house. Reminds me, I have been meaning to get building# and signs on some of the feed mill buildings

Swal - labor cost is going sky high. Local grocery store reports gross sales 27% higher than in May. Thats not because of more people, same amount of people they just charge that much more.

Green - ever notice those with the biggest mouths over how we need to be greener also have the biggest yachts, jets, and mansions? No wonder so many feel disenfranchised over the whole thing.

Todd - In my township they are super lax about permits, it is a rural area with a hands off attitude over government. Suits me fine.

The only good coyote is a dead one. .308 at roughly 130 yards from a rest. I'm glad it didn't feel anything, but happy it's gone. We've lived here for 6 years, and I have only seen a coyote 3-4 times. I hear them more often than that, but they keep their distance.

Here in Ohio, we really only have to worry about coyotes. It's lawful to bait deer in Ohio. Most land owners who hunt feed the deer. Corn fed deer taste a lot better than the ones out in the sticks that eat acorns and other nuts. Every TSC and Rurl King has pallets full of 40lb bags of "deer corn" which is a notch down in quality from what you would buy for farm animals.

Even with the guns and lights, I usually escort our dog outside for his evening constitutional... Dogs like to poo when a trusted member of the pack has his back, LOL!

An obligatory picture of a lone deer about 60 yards out from our house.

Another pic, this time of a lone buck. This one is about 90 yards back. I've been seeing this guy for about a week now.

My honey hole... a pic I got about 4-5 years ago. This was taken back in the woods. There is a hunting blind nearby

One day a few years ago, we were visited by 20-some wild turkeys.
