Map shows we are out of the rain but it is raining out. Proves you can't trust the weather man! They should have a window or something in their office.
Curt - 5" rain! Holy cows!
Hughie - Great layout shot, nice to see the whole thing!!
James - I can't believe those guys weigh 22#, they don't really look fat like some of the "chonks" on the internet (I think thats right)
THANKS for posting their pics, they have a nice home there!
Chad - I hope the weather is a little more cooperative for you
Smudge - nice freight cars.
Louis - we had the valve cover gasket replaced this summer in our Sonic.
Took it to the shop, I told my wife those always leak but she insisted we get it fixed. Cost around $400 mostly labor, we have 150,000 miles on ours. I am glad we fixed it, I like a clean engine
Thanks ! No pressure then?I really like the Soo Line cars.I can’t wait to see what you do with the other 3.
I don't know what the book says for time for this job. It should not take an experinced mechanic more than 1/2 hour or less. I would guess the book would be 2 hours at the most. I took almost an hour, my hands don't work so good any more.Took it to the shop, I told my wife those always leak but she insisted we get it fixed. Cost around $400 mostly labor, we have 150,000 miles on ours. I am glad we fixed it, I like a clean engine
I was pretty good with Excel as a pup, so I learned before becoming an old dog.Clever work young man! Who said you can't teach an old dog new tricks?
Thank you for the offer. For me half the fun of using Excel is creating the formulas. I usually start out with something in mind, and then the little light comes on, "what if you wrote it to do this and then that", and a re-write happens, but I love it. Many years ago, the company I worked for decided to punish the Maintenance folks, because we would not agree to work the Dupont shift like our Production co-workers. I was assigned to the powerhouse by myself. There isn't a lot one person can do at night in a powerhouse with 12 huge steam turbines. There was a computer, 256K, tells you how long ago this took place. Anyway, the computer had Excel on it. I spent hours upon hours learning Excel. It saved my sanity of working nights alone. Again, thank you for the offer, but I'll finish the project I'm working on.I'll be happy to send you the file so you can see the formulas.
Never any pressure! Except on the compressorThanks ! No pressure then?
Saying that, how did you get the fading on that hopper?
Great, thanks.Never any pressure! Except on the compressor
Fading!
Washed car in 70% Isopropyl Alcohol
Higher % works but be careful not to remove paint, printing or decals
Sprayed a clear mat varnish, let dry.
Do again
Let thoroughly dry
A mix of white and light gray sprayed about 8-10” away
Hit again with clear mat varnish
Make sure everything is dry before the next step, when still wet and I put clear mat varnish on it clouds up
psi on air compressor is at 20-25 for the white/gray mix
Tamiya Arcylics thinned with 91 or 99% Isopropyl Alcohol
psi on air compressor is at 40-50 for the clear mat varnish
I now use VMS clear mat varnish
play with the PSI to satisfy you and the paints and varnishes you use, experimen
Vallejo Air washes of burnt umber are hand brushed on using a wet on wet method
wet area of model with clear water use a brush
dab on burnt umber and move around per feel, let the water move it
do burnt umber wash as many times as you need to get where you want it
Check Boomer Diorama on you tube for his weathering techniques in his playlist
he explains and demonstrates it much better then my explanation
When satisfied and the model is dry, spray it with a clear mat varnish
Hope that helps
Chad - I hope the weather is a little more cooperative for you
Isn't using "fun" and "Excel" in the same sentence an oxymoron? For me half the fun of using Excel
Is that the voice of experience speaking?
I'm pleading the fifth on that...Is that the voice of experience speaking?![]()
