The Life still goes on. A new video from the NLRR with all the track sections. It runs better !

Life indeed goes on. It is our duty to make the most of each and every day.

I love the new layout!

I forgot to mention, I have my third grandson on the way. He is expected on January 17th. His name will be Kristian, Magyar (Hungarian) spelling.

As these wise men have advised you, enjoy every day with Iris. She is a real beauty!

Good morning folks!

It was a cool crisp 21 degrees F this morning. Frost on the "Lycan" (my truck) and he woke with a growl that my neighbors do not like to hear I am sure of it. 😆 6.2 L will grumble. Anyways I am in the office today and tomorrow I will work from home while waiting for the furnace guy to show up. The furnace guy was supposed to come last week but we re-scheduled. He will replace the oil filter and check the glycol levels to make sure we are set for this winter. Nope I have not turned on the furnace yet but may do that after tomorrow and set the thermostat at my usual 55 degrees. Next week we will start getting the cooler weather. I have yet to finish dealing with my firewood this coming weekend as this is a never ending task at the moment.

Willie-I am watching your progress and it is looking good!

Christian- Sorry about your pup. Our fur babies are definitely family members.

Guy- As usual love the pictures you provide us.

EDIT: Correction wrong name....sorry
George-Ken- I have been following your depressed flat car build thread and I like it for sure very cool sir!

TomO- I looked at your for sale items sorry I do not need any of those. In regards to gondolas I think I am good there. I hope your business affairs go well and things settle down for you. Tell your wife I am not happy about the Packers either.

Well I am getting closer to taking some time off but I have a few things keeping from doing that at the moment. Dad is going through a battery of medical test and my big sister has her heart surgery next Monday. My nerves are tense but coming here and doing a little MRR therapy helps. I did purchase a 2 bay WC hopper from TomO as we closed that deal. Fantastic work by Tom. I also have a new to me passenger car coming to me, a Walthers Union Pacific PS 5 Dbl Bedroom Buffet Lounge (City series) a really sharp car. It will go nicely. This may be the last car I get for my passenger set. Although I am still getting the generator car too which is either going to be done by Rick Dakota or Harry Marshal. I also snagged a 3 car set "Historic Railroads" set by Atlas for my local D&H (here in Saratoga Springs NY) locomotive that will make appearances from time to time on my layout. I got that set for 28 dollars unreal.....no one bid on it! Comes with metal wheels and great details! That's about it. Just now in a holding pattern on taking time off to plunge into the train room for a few days to get some real progress. Tonight I will actually do some programing on 4 locomotives. I need to get them out and take some pictures and share on my JR's UPRR thread.

Side note I have been toying with starting another small YouTube channel just to showcase my humble beginnings and progress of my current layout. I will however keep it simple with very short clips. As we know that editing can be time consuming. This will just allow me to share here on this forum what is happening. I am just thinking about it anyways. I have a YouTube channel for my fishing and hunting but it is predominately fishing and my boat (the "Grizz") upgrades etc. I probably post there about 4 to 6 times a year there. I always do a season ender type video of all of our catches etc. and what is projected for next year. Humble channel for sure. I thought about combining my current channel with my MRR but I decided against the idea. I want to keep my hobbies separate.

I like what Dave Banta (logandsawman) has for his YouTube channel on his layout. So that is what I am thinking of doing just a few shots and short clips here and there.

Well I gotta do couple of things. Ya'll have a good day. I may be back here tonight.

Well since I am back in here this afternoon.....

Here is a news flash....

Many years ago like 30 years ago I used to have a DDA40X Athearn Blue Box and I also had one of them pancake motor locomotive by Bachmann DDA40X. I sold them after I had them for a year or 2 back in the day like in the 1992. I never bought one again due to poor craftsmanship and running etc.

Fast forward to today. Since I didn't officially buy myself a birthday present last week on my birthday. Well ......happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me.......

ta da! I bought a DDA40X w/DCC & Sound, UP #6924 [ATHG71652] ....................Yupper I did pull the trigger and ordered it today as it was the last one and only one I could find in that road number. I specifically wanted that number due to the Air Raid Siren! I like the unique stuff UP did and this is no exception! I ordered from a place up in Calgary, Canada. I spoke to them on the phone before placing the order and spoke to a gentleman named Barry. He was very helpful. The hobby shop seems legit and hopefully all goes well. I got confirmation and I used PayPal to purchase the locomotive. I spent a chunk of change for it ($490.00) but it is the latest release LEDs and Tsunami 2.0 which I really like. Plus this locomotive was very hard to find. As I actually have been looking all summer up until now to get this road number with the Air Raid Siren. Ken recently bought one and posted information on his. I was envious of it as it ran and looked so good in his video post. Not to mention it sounded good too!

  • #6924 Air raid siren, cab-mounted beacon, late anti-climbers, early electrical cabinet
So we shall see in a while when it ships. In theory it should go out today since they are 2 hours behind my time zone. I paid the extra 15 bucks for express etc. so we shall see.

I am a bit excited having it in my hands and on my layout! It will look great next to the Big Boy that I acquired this past summer too!

Ok back to work.....chat with ya'll later.

That KOSGRO DCFC is not a project for the beginner. Lots of stuff ya have to think through before proceeding. Painting it requires a primer coat first. If ya don't do that, you won't be happy with the results. The plastic itself doesn't lend itself well to CA glue despite the instruction stating that medium CA glue is optimal for it. In particular, the bolster span. They designed it so the truck kingpin screws go into the bolster between the two halves which puts a pressure strain on the glued joints which, if not done correctly will split the bolster. A horizontal split between the halves would have been better vs. the vertical halving.

Actually, I liked mine so much I bought a second one to run in tandem with the first.
The air raid siren is cool sounding too despite my models not being the air raid siren version, it's still in the decoder and can be activated in the programming.
For those not familiar with the air raid siren, it was a feature of the later versions of the DDA40 as an advance warning system for track crews. The locos had a large wide mouth siren mounted above the front windshields, pretty much like those that were around our communities back during the cold war to warn of a nuclear attack.

Afternoon All,

Hello from gray and wet FL. Finished up outside including draining some water out of the pool. Tomorrow is our impact day but appears that it will be a Tropical Storm. On the layout I switched out the couplers to long shank and tested, The problem A unit still had the lead truck derail. Grrr... I then decided to switch the A unit positions. Ran several tests back and forth without issue (SMH) but it appears that this is the way the F3's will be consisted now. Problem solved...kind of .

Dave- Nice layout shot. Good luck with the ten wheeler. Steamers can be a bear. Speaking of grumpiness my last set of co-workers would call me Walter (Jeff Dunham). I was really over dealing with people at that point. Not good for a PM. It was time to retire.

Christian- I am very sorry about Iris. She looks like a well taken care of and happy pup.

Guy- Nice 1:1 photos.

Louis- Great family photo. Your Mom reminds me of my grandmother (Dad's side). Congrats on the new grandson.

Willie- That's some great QA from China/Walthers.

James- Congrats on the new MRR addition. I saw one running on a layout several weeks ago and it's huge.

Terry- I sent you a PM.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Thanks Curt!

By the way I didn't realize that you reside in Sunny Florida. I lived in Bradenton Fl for 17 years and 3 years in Tallahassee. I worked in Sarasota mostly but also a few other cities Palmetto, St. Petersburgh, Venice, Port Charlotte, Naples, Ft. Meyers and Tampa.

I used to go to a club layout in Sarasota and Ft. Meyers too.

Anyways I got tired of the sand and summer heat and the snowbird season. I miss the fishing and diving. I harvested 90% of all my seafood in the gulf. Red Grouper, lobster, snook, stone crabs, shrimp, Mahi mahi, snapper, cobia and mullet just to name a few. I even hunted wild hogs and gator too. Anyways where about are ya?

Great granddaughter! How cool is that!? Congratulations to you and your family.

Sorry I meant to say Ken.........sorry for the confusion George and everyone else........my brain must've been in a fog at that moment. My apologies.
You don't have to be sorry James I'll be doing one of those cars some day and then I'll post your comment. Other than that, I'll use Swal from now on. That's what all my golf friends call me. That's my magic name. No one ever calls me George. Some magic I was doing at the golf course one day.
Swal
