I read the earlier post, wierd that they would make you wear a watch. In many places, it is considered a safety issue to have one of those on,

I have never worn a wrist watch, used to run through cheap pocket watches, the $10 ones, would last me a year then time to buy a new one. Thinking back, I don't even remember where I used to buy them.

Now, no watch or time piece on me except when I have the outsized Samsung Galaxy 12 with me. Nice thing about its big size is I hardly ever keep it with me so little risk of dropping it 🤣

Terry - you will be awfully bored without some type of project, I predict

TomO - if you are selling the ranch what are you doing with the layout? Keeping the house? I missed something
Dave, everything is for sale. The property, the stables and the house. It’s getting to be too much, I am deathly afraid of the economy and bombs coming down. . I am also still ticked at my 2 kids who saw no worth in continuing what Terry and I as a side job started with the property management company In 1990. Gave them a great life after about 1995 but it’s not “interesting” enough.

There are 2 patrs of the layout on 6 modules that will come with me. 2 sections of 4’ each in the tree tunnel, and 4 sections 6’ long of the paper mill. Everything else will get salvaged. If the house sold tomorrow we still have the office that is our official Wisconsin address. We could move there, it was a duplex we built in 2007 that we converted to one big office in 2015 and converted back to a duplex in 2022 but neither side is for rent yet. It is still our mailing address.

Tom: It always amazes me about kids. You setup something for them to help with money, and they choose something else. Gotta love them anyway. Property Management - Did you get it big enough to be 8hrs/day? Or, something that you can do on the weekends? Sure, when something goes sideways, more time is involved.

As to bombs - I didn't think we would make it outa the 70's. That is always hanging over our heads in any event. I suspect the saber rattling is mostly because of our current admin, with some cuz of the economy.

Smart to do the modules. That is how I bided my time living in the apartment, along with building those finicky little HO scale truck and tractor kits. I am happy we now have a place to call home, however it got scaled down quite a bit from our original plan. Builders were in such short supply and were so busy during the pandemic that the bids came in astronomical.

I am glad we got it built, however; now that there are builders available, the interest rates would have created an equally deleterious result.

Afternoon All,

Started with laundry and chores. We're pretty much ready to go with the coming storm (everything is left over from Ian). Today I got lazy and binged 3 episodes of Doc Martin season 10. Afterwards I helped MOH trim skunk toe nails (they don't dig like in the wild). Not sure what's on the agenda for tomorrow.

Jaz- I agree. I see tough times coming and wouldn't be surprised at all if 1 or 2 major regional conflicts happen within the next couple of years.

Patrick- Condolences on the loss of your family members.

Jeff- Those diesels look great.

Louis- I remember my Mom using that type of frozen loaf when I was a kid. She was a hell of a good baker but never made bread from scratch.

Dave- Great photos.

Willie- Nice job on the platform. I was thinking that if it was gray you could really weather it to look oily and grimy.

Chad- Politics is the reason I quit FB 2 years ago and don't miss it at all. The political stuff here I just skim or skip.

I hope everyone has a good night.

I was productive today! Not Willie, productive but good for me.

I did find work with Amazon this morning. Less than two hours, but at $84/hour I'll take it.

I made some phone calls and I worked on my back porch. My kids helped me empty my Mom's apartment and brought everything in. Today I organized everything and doubled the floor space of my porch. My wife is happy.

Bombs, try not to worry about things beyond our control. My motto: do your best and let God worry about the rest.

We got lucky with kids.

As a Freshman in College, our oldest daughter figured out that she wanted to be a Physician Assistant. At the time, there were only 8 PA programs in Ohio. It was (and still is) very competitive to get accepted into a program, and it was especially difficult to get into a program without any previous experience. So she decided to get experience. The summer after her Freshman year, she became a medic, and started volunteering at a small, local township fire station. Her certification also allowed her to volunteer at free clinics doing patient in-take. Here self-motivation, along with a perfect 4-point GPA, got her into the best program in Ohio. Today, she makes more than I do, and she's not even 30 years old yet.

Her younger sister is doing the same thing.

One of the best gifts I could ever give them, other than a secondary education that's paid for, was to be a good example with a strong work ethic.

Speaking of watches. When I worked for the railroad, you had to have an approved railroad watch.

Perhaps it's time for a train photo.

A GP38 that is still working for a living:

I didn't know it was going to be down in the CN staging area, and I only had my cheap pocket camera with me. Hence the poor photo quality.
Still kicking myself for packing that crappy camera around. It was a one off.
Nice! Is this a lease loco? GMTX is lease loco ain't it? And Stewart Southern Railway one of these shortlines that connect the customer to the big RR's. I love this.

I was testing out my lower deck tracks for the first time today and everything went fine but I noticed at the far end I had a pair of scissors on the track. The test engine was running around, I seen the scissors and when I picked them up, they burnt my hand. How did they get so hot without tripping the circuit.

First guess is that they were light. Vibrated enough to keep from a direct steady short. In other words, they would contact the rail, spark and bounce upwards just a tiny bit. Could you hear anything from them before you picked them up? 2nd guess; and that is if they had chrome plating - Chrome does not conduct electrons very well, and also could be vibration keeping them bouncing on the rail.

Hows that for guessing?

Amen to that

Good Morning All. Dense fog and 63°, so dense that it feels like mist outside. Forecast still calls for thundershowers around dusk tonight.

Not a lot going on around here today. I'll do laundry and run the Roomba vacuum cleaner. I made chicken fried steak for supper last night, since my wife won't eat that. Looks like I spilled some flour on the floor that I didn't see last night. I'll need to do some rearranging of the upright chest freezer this week to accommodate some turkeys for Thanksgiving. They're my responsibility this year and I need two 18 pounders.

Thanks for the reactions yesterday regarding my slow progress on the tank car loading platform.

Progress continues on the platform. It's time for the tedious part. But first another adventure with Walther's instructions.

Unfortunately those parts are not labeled on the instruction sheet. But an educated guess helped. Meanwhile there is no mention on the written instructions regarding parts #28.

Then align everything and glue. This took a while.

There are four of these assemblies; I got three done before I had to stop.
Meanwhile I unpacked some of the booty that I purchased at the LHS Saturday.

Tom O - Yes it was a bold move going into the hobby shop without a list. But I wanted to browse for a change. I am rather rigid, and I don't deviate from my list, whether it be at the LHS or the grocery store. I came out OK and only left them $259.xx, not bad in my opinion.
Terminations - I always hated them in my years as a manager, layoffs are worse as terminations generally were with cause. Layoffs snagged folks who didn't deserve it. The rules changed a bunch in my later years and HR began handling some of it. I remember the good ole days when I could just say "I don't want to see you again".
Dave (PV) - No green screen here, I got the video. Happy that it wasn't you, too bad about the ruined home and the other dog.

The eclipse tomorrow morning most likely won't be seen here, as the forecast calls for cloudy skies all day today, overnight and all day tomorrow.

Everybody have a great day.
Willie- I like your taste in ice cream vendors. I have one myself.
I am a light green complexion with envy for your pickup trucks.
Nice additions to your layout!

Good morning!

I've not been outside yet, but the blizzard did return on the circular motion of the trade winds. I'm going to give it until the afternoon, and then go out and shovel.
Plus, the supposedly sunny day yesterday, turned out requiring an hour worth of shovel work to clean the walks. I'm sure most of that snow was carried by the breeze.
It's 2F right now and supposed to warm up to 5F sometime today. Tomorrow is supposed to be somewhat cooler.

I'm wishing the snow was still lingering high up in the mountains, like it does over the summer:

Sadly, wishes don't usually come true.

Troy - That's cat poop outhouse is something I've never seen before. In fact, can't say I've ever seen a cat pooper that was anything more than a cardboard or plastic container sitting on newspaper in the basement. That must be one expensive, pampered cat.

Reminds me of my dog walk the other day, when we came across a cat, a squirrel, and a deer, all within 20' of each other in the forest. I could just see my dogs brain churning, 'choices, choices, choices!'.
The dog ultimately treed both the cat and the squirrel, and the deer stood ground. The deer knows what a leash is. I was nearly pulled over by the dog, though, as she tried to initiate an attack. My dog is fairly large, very strong, and heavy. A Saint Bernard, Black Lab, pit-bull mixture.

I sure don't know what happened to my friend Sherrel. Hope he's ok and can come back. It's odd that his call name has been changed to 'Gonaway' on all past posts. I'm sad that Karl has disappeared as well. Hope he's ok.

DaveB - The whitewater looks just fine to my eye. Well done! What material are you using for the effect?

That Walthers bridge I need to build is not going anywhere quick. I stare at it, it stares back; nothing happening, though. I hate that bridge already. Gotta get done though, or I fill in the divide with plywood. - Like Joe said, just take my time. I need to force myself to do so. Getting started seems to be the hard part.

JeffH - Those newly painted locomotives look superb.

Sometimes I get talking way too much in here. Almost seems like I don't want to go outside in a blizzard to walk the dog.
It's gotta be done, though. So, I better get to it. Been doing it since I was sixteen, usually twice a day. And the dogs quickly learn how to tell time.

Have a great day!
Guy- you mean that’s not one of those self-assembling kits?

I know that if one dreams hard enough, it's possible to sleep-walk and build this type of kit in the middle of the night. I've always been a good sleep-walker, even to the point I sometimes must take another bed as that quality scares my wife.
I'll get a bridge built somehow.

Terry - Thank you for answering mara's question.
I know that Stewart Southern can be googled, which provides far better photographs than what my cheap camera offered.

Have a good night!

The scissors likely acted as a resistance, in the same way a lightbulb element would or a coil.

I had a very nice drive in the changing leaf colors into the country today.
I noticed an Iwata Eclipse airbrush and a Senco compressor listed on Craig List for $50.00 last Friday so I texted the seller.
Saturday, I called and left a message. Tried to call again Sunday afternoon with no answer. I figured it had been sold and was no longer for sale.

Right after noon today, I got a phone call and arranged to meet him to buy the airbrush and compressor. at his home.
I had to take my wife along to navigate to an RV park 40 miles from my home. Beautiful scenery!
The airbrush packaging is a little shopworn, but all the parts are there and appears unused. Plugged in the compressor and it runs very quietly.
We performed a traditional exchange of product for currency and we bid the gentleman goodbye.
We enjoyed another gorgeous drive on a twisted road through the hills back to local roads.

Since my wife navigated for the trip, I was volunteered to help prepare supper, so any airbrushing experimentation has been postponed until later.
I might even read the instructions first!
