Good Morning All!
26F with 2in of white.

Y'all know how strange stuff happens right? In an earlier post I told about a watch when I was working in 1987. Well, pulled a box of train stuff from a top shelf and this jumped out first. I managed to catch it before it hit the floor.
View attachment 155414

So, is it a sign of the times? Time to do something? What? I don't remember purposely saving it way back when, I guess that it is what it is.

Today is run around and get all the tools and crap under cover while we still can find them. Gonna pull the battery from the lawn tractor, then cover it with a tarp right where she sits under the maple tree. Then some inside stuff Maria wants to get done. Have a bake sale at the local grocery so I probably will go with her for that. After that, will start putting up the new lights in the train cave and get the wiring fastened down proper.

I still have some work on the web site, most of which allows me to insert pix and text without dealing with the whole nine yards. Not much data in it right now although I can see it growing in the very near future. Still have a thrown together logo that really needs help. Inkscape to most is pretty easy, I seem to have a hard time with it at times. Hmmm. time again. Anyway I guess that I am not in a big hurry so if it happens today, good. If not it will happen sometime.

Later

Oh, Terry - where and when are you moving? Sorry to see the layout go away. Maybe you can figure something out just to have something to tinker with.
I read the earlier post, wierd that they would make you wear a watch. In many places, it is considered a safety issue to have one of those on,

I have never worn a wrist watch, used to run through cheap pocket watches, the $10 ones, would last me a year then time to buy a new one. Thinking back, I don't even remember where I used to buy them.

Now, no watch or time piece on me except when I have the outsized Samsung Galaxy 12 with me. Nice thing about its big size is I hardly ever keep it with me so little risk of dropping it 🤣

Terry - you will be awfully bored without some type of project, I predict

TomO - if you are selling the ranch what are you doing with the layout? Keeping the house? I missed something

Haven't worn a watch since I dropped my last one into the casket with Wendy. That was in 2010. I suppose the battery has died since then.
So much to do today, I'll need an additional 50 hours to get everything done I want to do.
Got the mildew cleaned off the front sidewalk. It never gets sunlight there so the mildew has been turning the concrete black. Bought a jug of crud cutter and applied it. Looks much better now. Some folks like the look of a fresh power wash but don't associate it with the scaling of the concrete surface a couple years later.
Gotta get cleaned up to go the the Vega rally at 1230 then out to a friend's house to move stuff to his basement.

Good morning!

I've not been outside yet, but the blizzard did return on the circular motion of the trade winds. I'm going to give it until the afternoon, and then go out and shovel.
Plus, the supposedly sunny day yesterday, turned out requiring an hour worth of shovel work to clean the walks. I'm sure most of that snow was carried by the breeze.
It's 2F right now and supposed to warm up to 5F sometime today. Tomorrow is supposed to be somewhat cooler.

I'm wishing the snow was still lingering high up in the mountains, like it does over the summer:

Sadly, wishes don't usually come true.

Troy - That's cat poop outhouse is something I've never seen before. In fact, can't say I've ever seen a cat pooper that was anything more than a cardboard or plastic container sitting on newspaper in the basement. That must be one expensive, pampered cat.

Reminds me of my dog walk the other day, when we came across a cat, a squirrel, and a deer, all within 20' of each other in the forest. I could just see my dogs brain churning, 'choices, choices, choices!'.
The dog ultimately treed both the cat and the squirrel, and the deer stood ground. The deer knows what a leash is. I was nearly pulled over by the dog, though, as she tried to initiate an attack. My dog is fairly large, very strong, and heavy. A Saint Bernard, Black Lab, pit-bull mixture.

I sure don't know what happened to my friend Sherrel. Hope he's ok and can come back. It's odd that his call name has been changed to 'Gonaway' on all past posts. I'm sad that Karl has disappeared as well. Hope he's ok.

DaveB - The whitewater looks just fine to my eye. Well done! What material are you using for the effect?

That Walthers bridge I need to build is not going anywhere quick. I stare at it, it stares back; nothing happening, though. I hate that bridge already. Gotta get done though, or I fill in the divide with plywood. - Like Joe said, just take my time. I need to force myself to do so. Getting started seems to be the hard part.

JeffH - Those newly painted locomotives look superb.

Sometimes I get talking way too much in here. Almost seems like I don't want to go outside in a blizzard to walk the dog.
It's gotta be done, though. So, I better get to it. Been doing it since I was sixteen, usually twice a day. And the dogs quickly learn how to tell time.

Have a great day!

Good Morning All. Dense fog and 63°, so dense that it feels like mist outside. Forecast still calls for thundershowers around dusk tonight.

Not a lot going on around here today. I'll do laundry and run the Roomba vacuum cleaner. I made chicken fried steak for supper last night, since my wife won't eat that. Looks like I spilled some flour on the floor that I didn't see last night. I'll need to do some rearranging of the upright chest freezer this week to accommodate some turkeys for Thanksgiving. They're my responsibility this year and I need two 18 pounders.

Thanks for the reactions yesterday regarding my slow progress on the tank car loading platform.

Progress continues on the platform. It's time for the tedious part. But first another adventure with Walther's instructions.
IMG_2356 (2).jpg

Unfortunately those parts are not labeled on the instruction sheet. But an educated guess helped. Meanwhile there is no mention on the written instructions regarding parts #28.

A close-up look at the handles that have to be added.

Then align everything and glue. This took a while.

IMG_2361.JPG

There are four of these assemblies; I got three done before I had to stop.
Meanwhile I unpacked some of the booty that I purchased at the LHS Saturday.

Tom O - Yes it was a bold move going into the hobby shop without a list. But I wanted to browse for a change. I am rather rigid, and I don't deviate from my list, whether it be at the LHS or the grocery store. I came out OK and only left them $259.xx, not bad in my opinion.
Terminations - I always hated them in my years as a manager, layoffs are worse as terminations generally were with cause. Layoffs snagged folks who didn't deserve it. The rules changed a bunch in my later years and HR began handling some of it. I remember the good ole days when I could just say "I don't want to see you again".
Dave (PV) - No green screen here, I got the video. Happy that it wasn't you, too bad about the ruined home and the other dog.

The eclipse tomorrow morning most likely won't be seen here, as the forecast calls for cloudy skies all day today, overnight and all day tomorrow.

Everybody have a great day.

McLeod: Boy I have the same problem as you do. Sometimes I just can not get started on *anything*. Don't know if it is age, weather or the air around me. Lately though, I will run around in a flurry of action ... for about an hour then back to the computer desk and check the forums and do other computer related stuff. Wife's honeydu list is pretty much gone, so that is not an issue either. Don't worry about the 'talking too much' part as I enjoy all the ramblings.

Guy - I used cotton balls pulled apart and manipulated a little to get the spray effect. There are youtube videos out there showing some complicated techniques, however I did the old Trial and Error (T&E) method and think it is fine. In the narrow stream it is embedded in some of the fake water, first I put the cotton down then I poured some fake water upstream and let it flow down and adhere it,

On the bigger stream, I placed the cotton pieces where I wanted them and put a couple drops of glue/water/soap/alcohol mixture near the upstream end of it and that seemed to work

Willie - I found it to be a lot more fun to open a package of ready done goodies than following some complex instructions. However, it looks like your efforts with the fueling platform are really paying off!

Acme website shows this brand.
I would think all major stores would stock them.

At our stores they are in a separate freezer on and endcap. We always buy from Redners because they have a private label that has five loaves in the pack.

I really hope you see this post. I will miss you if you don't come back.

Louis- if you see this fella wandering around your local ACME store, be afraid. Be very, very afraid. Unless, of course, you’re a roadrunner.

Phones and football. Watched the Washington whoever they are this week hand the game over to the Vikings in the last quarter. Typical 4th quarter strategy of theirs.
My Galaxy A20 can hold about 2 dozen pictures when the storage is full. It has the bare minimal apps on it and I give it a reboot every few days just to clear the cache. The main thing I use if for beside phone calls and text message is to listen to talk radio while on the Goldwing. It hosts Android Auto which is the basis for the streaming ability.
Yesli Vega will be in town today. I'll go over to the church parking lot where she is speaking today and encourage her aspirations for Congress.
Ken- sounds like the Rams game. Led the whole game. They choose, inside the final 2 minutes, knowing the Bucs had 2 timeouts at their disposal, to go ultra-conservative by running the ball 3 times. The running game has struggled all season. What made Mcvay think it would work then? Yeah, give Brady the ball back with more than :30 left and only needing 60 yards to win?

You should put a Micro SD card in that phone for more pictures. I have a Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G and I put a 250 GB card in it and it's fantastic!

In the US, as the election draws closer, (the 8th), the Liberal Elite is getting very nervous because the pollsters are indicating they may lose control of at least one house of Congress. The mantra of the liberal media is that it is essential to preserve democracy...but they fear the Populists and their agenda...I always thought Democracy was when everyone had their say, (and vote), and Populists are generally ordinary people who are unhappy with established practices. Apparently, the liberal elite doesn't want to share power with the deplorables. Theyare also upset with Elon Musk (who has a habit of pissing off both sides), and his takeover of Twitter. In a liberal elite democracy, apparently, censorship trumps freedom of speech. Musk wants to end censorship on Twitter...that makes him a proponent of hurtful hate speech. Sad thing is...economically, I'm a liberal ....Philosophically, I'm Conservative, so I don't have a political home. The whole thing is crazy when you think about it.

Funny thing about Democracy everyone tends to think that the United States is a democracy..... it is NOT. United States is a Republic. Some parties tend to repeat the word Democracy intentionally and some unintentionally. It is important to understand the difference.

Key Takeaways: Republic vs. Democracy

  • Republics and democracies both provide a political system in which citizens are represented by elected officials who are sworn to protect their interests.
  • In a pure democracy, laws are made directly by the voting majority leaving the rights of the minority largely unprotected.
  • In a republic, laws are made by representatives chosen by the people and must comply with a constitution that specifically protects the rights of the minority from the will of the majority.
  • The United States, while basically a republic, is best described as a “representative democracy.”

Well, the cat has many nicknames. Mr. Stinkers is the one I use for him, a LOT.

This litter robot really helped cut down on the odor when we lived in a tiny 900 sq ft LA apartment.

They've just come out with a new model, retail for about $700. I paid $500 usd. BUT, with my asthma, and living in smoggy Los Angeles, I needed all the breaks I could get. Scooping litter every day was something I grabbed a mask for.

Glad I got it. For my situation, and anyone with multiple cats, well worth it.

Guy, we’ve lost several forum members because I enforce the two rules Bob made. Some people have left because of things posted here.
For the people that seem to think otherwise, talking about politicians and their actions IS politics.

Each person is different. I have developed a low tolerance for political discussion. For a few reasons, including I end up wasting a ton of time and high blood pressure, so I just would rather not.

But I don't personally leave a forum or demand others not talk about it. I just skip those articles if I can and go on to the ones that I am more interested in.

If it got to the point that a forum was mostly politics and had no or few other posts I might leave but it would take a lot to drive me away...
