In the last 4 years especially during COVID......people were and have been gouging buyers using this method with "bloating" the shipping prices. It's all a game to them to make money. If I bought something that I had to have and couldn't get any where else, I would buy it but then when I did my review and ratings on them.... I would give them a huge negative and zero stars. Sometimes they would comment back or others have given credit if I changed the review etc. It is a sad case of abuse on the shipping. Buyer beware seem to be the thing you have to do. Most of the time I will not buy with those ludicrous shipping charges. There are some circumstances I think but rare for high shipping charges.

Sometimes it helps to contact the seller before hand and discuss the rates etc. and you may be surprised they may make an adjustment before you buy it now or bid.

I dunno it's always an issue. Good luck to ya!
I recently purchased a few cars online from a new place to me. Great prices, 2 cars I didn’t need but…

I ordered hit PayPal and the next morning I looked at the shipping. $34.50 for 2 cars via USPS. I just shipped 5 cars out to Washington via USPS for $10.90 with insurance of $100 in the priority mailing shoe box.

I emailed them yesterday about it. No response but $15.00 in credit on the PayPal this morning. So James is so right ask or comment if you disagree on shipping.

Sitting on the 4th tee, medical emergency a few groups in front of us. Waiting to hit so pulled out the phone. Any sentence structure or spelling errors are my own with help from the small screen

Where online do you read your news?
My main source is the Baltimore Sun online. I am a subscriber. I have an app on my phone and the paper is delivered to my email inbox daily.

I was a subscriber to the New York Times, and The Washington Post until they both became too expensive. I did not have enough time to read everything. I can't cut into my time for sports and western movies and shows!

Good Morning. A couple of of eggs over easy, a double rasher of bacon, home fries and an English muffin please with some black coffee.

Happy Birthday JAMES - 548.gif

475 -A major oops. So sad.

Snowman - Here's a quickie for you. What can a goose do, a duck can't do and a lawyer should do???????
------------------- Stick his bill in his ass.

Todd - I usually end up calling USAA. I get numerous email from them and they for the most part are useless because of all of the password bullshit that you have to go through to open them up. When I went to Texas to pick up the little dachshund, I tried to use an American Express card through USAA for fuel. I kept getting asked for a PIN number for a CREDIT CARD. Never had one. This wasn't USAA's fault, but when I tried to get a pin number set up it was a cluster f***. After a few calls I gave up and just used a debit card.

Willie - The two diner kits are almost identical. I had the City Classics lit but one of the walls was warped pretty badly and the lit was put aside for years and when Walthers came out with their kit, I got it.

Dave - Great photo.

Smudge617- Like that sign.

Joe - Thanks for the breakdown on 475's accident. Like the Pennsy F units photo.

Have to head back over to the county offices.

Unbelievable that the Phillies would be no hit in a WS game...although they came close to being no hit in game 2 There is a pattern developing.
I heard Bryce Harper on the radio this morning. He said this about the game, "good pitching beats good hitting any day of the week" I agree!

It's almost unbelievable to have a no-hitter in any world series game, now we have two!

Don Larson and the 56 Yankees did it the old-fashioned way, one pitcher.

The Yankees pitched five complete games in that series and still it took seven games for them to win it.

I hope all goes well with the MRI.

There was a large excavatopr at the house last night. They didn't tell me but this is good news. I've been trying to get them to come for a couple weeks to do the sewer laterals, install a passive foundation drain, and backfill / remove a big pile of dirt for the crane to bring in the garage slabs.

Also, it rained yesterday morning, turned to mixed rain/snow and then snowed the rest of the day for several inches. I went up to the house and there was only a few places where small amounts of water were dripping in. I need to check a few places where I foamed around the perimeter to see if some gaps were left as most of the places were spots on the perimeter...

Separation of Church and State is a phrase that refers to the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment. The phrase dates back to the early days of U.S. history, and Thomas Jefferson referred to the First Amendment as creating a “wall of separation” between church and state as the third president of the U.S. The term is also often employed in court cases.

I have faith in the United States Constitution and the United States Courts.

I have an even greater faith in God.

My rights end where the rights of others begin. Faith or no faith, we all have equal rights.

Still, many people still don't understand what separation means. Some profess that practice of religion should not exist where our Constitution is observed, still others claim any artifact of faith cannot be unveiled in public, i.e. bible on desk at work, praying in public space and the worst assault, far greater than the beheadings is, wishing someone a Merry Christmas. That entitles the offended to sue the wisher and their employer.

Soooooo...where do I get my news?

I scroll through my MSN news feed a couple times a day. There are headlines on there from the most liberal to most conservative causes. Just reading the headlines is entertainment in and of itself, as well as an education.

MOST of the headlines are illogical conclusions stemming from a fraction of reality. Maybe 1 out of 10 is worthy of the moniker "NEWS". Back in the 60's they would have been Tabloid only materials.

I really enjoy the cat memes. Most of the money stories are sales pitches or pipe dreams of the mighty rich. Occasionally there will be some real meat in there.

Yesterday I read a good story about life in the Roman empire, it spanned several centuries and contained accounts of living during those days. It made for a good history lesson. Unfortunately, I cannot remember which news paper it came out of.

Chad - our contractor left a big dirt pile in front of our house. Luckily, it was not where the carport was going. I moved a lot of it with a shovel and wheelbarrow, then was able to give it away to a neighbor who had need of clean fill. Our dirt man was kind of a scum bag that played several tricks on us. Luckily we were able to work around him and will never put out a good word for him. He treated others the same, funny he can still be in business. Maybe now that we are seeing a slowdown some of the bad apples will go under.

Louis - it looks like you caught up on my layout progress. Thanks for all the likes!!!

Chet - great pics, is that your layout with the Glacier scenery?

Can I save this picture and even upload later as it looks a superb reference for weathering

Afternoon All,

Started out with a walk then did chores. On the train front I moved my Genesis FP7 ABA set out and ran them for awhile in preparation of using them to power the CMX cleaning car tomorrow. It usually takes 2 days to clean all the track. Tonight we're going out to Red Robin for supper. They've started with the free veterans meals.

Thank you all for the video likes yesterday.

Dave- Thank you. No, the video is on my current layout.

Chet- Thank you. Great archive photos and modeling from them.

Terry- Well that blows. Complacency will get you every time.

Willie- I really like the 2 smaller signs with the curves on the edges.

Guy- I look forward to seeing your layout progress. You're lucky the grandkids are interested in your layout.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Upon further review:
  1. The Engineer was not looking ahead, but was waving to the passengers. Fireman was most likely tending to the fire, and would have had a limited forward view.
  2. Engineer, conductor, and other crew members failed to notice main line switch not aligned for their movement, and obstruction aheadof movement
  3. Amtrak MW employees failed to properly align and lock switch after clearing into siding, as required by rules.
On the whole, this was a completely preventable occurrance, with numerous employes of two railroads guilty of Rules Violations and resposible for occurrance. It is indeed fortunate that the passengers were not involved nor injured.
I had one fender bender in my time on the RR. It was 2am I was working the night holster job moving the last engines in from NYC off the fueling pad on to the ready track for the morning. I had 2 FL-9's (F7 type engines). The move requires you to go down to the yard lead throw the switch and back on to one of the morning the ready tracks. After throwing and moving through the yard lead switch I looked around and seen the 12am switcher way up in the yard so I didn't bother changes ends. That would have required me to put on the brakes then cut out the main brake stand, cut out the engine's independent brake and set some electrical switches to neutral. I didn't bother changing ends. I started backing up and ran into the yard switcher. I couldn't see him, and he was looking at the brakeman who was giving him a backup signal. The accident damaged the RS3's steps. The yardmaster came to see what happened, He said, Chick the engineer of the yard switcher already has some other mishap history if you take the full blame, he will not have to do any time off. I said OK and after that I always changed ends thereafter. I included a photo of the type of locos I was running that night.

Dave, I really enjoyed the pictures, thank you!

Do you have any pictures of the around the ceiling layout??

THANKS for asking, I do have these two youtube videos of the layout, looking at them really brings back some memories!!

Here is the crudest video, one of my first youtubes ever made, shows the bones of the layout:

This next one shows off the layout backdrop, which I painted on some plastic table cloth material, some aspects of it really surprised me!!

There is a longer version of the backdrop video, which is on the youtube channel.

Enjoy! Some of these buildings are still in use on the newest layout!

I thought MSN was an opinion outlet.
MSN news comes up automatically on my news feed with my work computer. Stories are from Fox, Fox Business, NBC, AP, USA Today, Inquisitr, Reuters, Newsweek, Washington Examiner, HuffPost, Mediaite, TheWrap, Bloomberg, Daily Dot, Daily Mail, TheStreet, Benzinga, Abandoned Spaces, AccuWeather, PetHelpful, Mirror, Metro, Radar Online (many, many more) (these are the stories that came up first when I click on the feed)

Not sure if the outlets pay to get their content out there or if there is some algorithm. They want you to subscribe, for the most part, which I do not do.

Where online do you read your news?
I also scroll through the MSN news feed. It is unbiased and like Dave posted, it has news from all sides of the political spectrum. The stories themselves are generally biased one way or another depending on the original source. As I type this, it has headlines from Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Politico, The Hill, Associated Press, Fox News, Washington Post, Washington Examiner, Salon, and some foreign websites. The ones that I trust the most for lack of bias regarding US political news are Al Jazeera, or BBC. MSN itself does not represent any side. You quickly learn which way many news sites lean from reading their articles. I am conservative but I enjoy reading both sides of reports so I can understand how the liberals interpret the same issues, like reading Washington Post or CNN versus reading Fox News or The Hill. By reading both, I can generally discern the truth. It also carries stuff like Dear Abbey or Miss Manners, along with a whole lot of Hollywood gossip and sports stories. However, one can really get hung up trying to read so much information. Because of where my local ISP is located, I get local stuff as well.

For those who have not seen this video yet.
The lesson learned here is…don’t get complacent.

Agreed: first lesson is don't be complacent.

Amtrak MW, (as usual), set up the occurrence, by not restoring the switch to normal position and locking it. That's the first act of carelessness and a major Rules Violation. That failure set up the chain of events that led to the occurrence that is shown in the video(s).

The Strasburg crew, failed to exercise caution, and as indicated by another video, the Engineer was not looking ahead, but looking at the train and waving to the passengers on the Strasburg train. However, I'm not sure how the siding is defined by the Strasburg, however, as of the 2003 Edition of the NORAC Rule Book, the Strasburg is not a participant in NORAC. They are essentially a Tourist attraction and used to be staffed by volunteers. Don't know their current status, but the brakeman or fireman, should have been riding the front step to be in position to line the railroad if incorrectly aligned. The Engineer should have been looking in the direction of movement. I know that close in visibility is limited on a steam locomotive, but that's why he should have been vigilant. He had plenty of room before the switch to see it wasn't properly lined.
