Good Morning All. Light fog and 67°, might hit the mid-80's later on. All of that rain that was originally in the forecast has been removed through next Tuesday. Yesterday's "heavy thunderstorms" barely got the rain gauge wet!. I recorded 0.15"; never heard any thunder!

Off to a real late start today, I didn't wake up until 7:30 for some reason. I know that my body's internal clock STILL hasn't adjusted to daylight savings yet, but this morning is extreme.

Maybe yesterday's grocery trek was too much, not really. It went well, no stockouts and no noticeable price increases. Gas prices about town have jumped back above $4, after last week's surprising $3.79. Saw $4.09 all over town. Still $4.14 at the rural convenience store. Picked more Green Beans from the garden later in the afternoon, maybe one pound this go-around. Saturday coming up will be more plentiful. We returned to Outback Steakhouse last night after mostly disappointing visits there in the last 18 months. Had to burn some frequent diner points. Surprised at the upturn in both food quality and service. That is despite a few more menu items disappearing. They did add back their chicken quesadilla appetizers, albeit smaller portions than the ones removed in 2022. Service was much improved as well. Yesterday had the potential of being our very last visit, but they will get another chance
Today will start with a load of laundry, but the extra-heavy dew will delay any yard work...don't want my tennis shoes getting too wet. First it's the dishwasher and then I'll use the time indoors to make the mayo-free Italian Pasta Salad; that I was requested to bring to tomorrow's Memorial Day gathering at daughter #1's place. SIL will be smoking a brisket for the occasion. We'll return the Lexus loaner and pick ours up on the same trip.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I cleaned the rest of the vehicles (that I know of) in my 2nd quarter clean-up project. I also continued to advance in the latest project, the South Gainesville downtown completion project. I did get another 13" of roadway ready and marked, I did not glue it down yet. i also got one of the two grade crossings stained and installed. Managed to do it without super-gluing my fingers or anything else unexpected together.

I've had some really f****d up experiences with the forum for the last few days. I hope they get worked out.

Someone mentioned a few weeks ago about Guy from the North, (McLeod). While I haven't seen any posts, I do know that he has been lurking. I do miss his posts of both railyard action and the flora and fauna in his area.
On the subject of MIA regulars, I wonder how David's (North Brit) trans-Pacific ocean voyage is going?

Swal - An easy fun way to give Murphy a bath!
Chad - My description of Winco was meant to indicate a privately held company; not a private club membership place that you interpreted it as.
No, their prices are generally no better than other stores, but if you want 100 tubes of toothpaste, then they're the place to go. The no credit card thing is a pain since I always reach for that first before going for the debit card.
Tom O - With crowds like that, I doubt that any of the vendors at that Farmer's Mart are real farmers! Just like the one in Dallas has gotten to be. All brokers.
Soda, specifically the Sugar-Free A&W Root Beer that I buy: This week I hit the "Buy Two (12-pack cans) and Get Three Free" sale. Price averages out to be the same as the regular price that I paid in 2020. A 100% increase! It was blamed on Covid at the time, but it was really the runaway inflation from the previous administration. I'll reluctantly continue to pay. Beer by comparison has only gone up by about 15%.

Elton John's lyricist Bernie Taupin is 76 today.

Everybody have a fantastic Friday and if you're lucky, have a great long Memorial Day Weekend.

Why is it i feel comfortable at 70, but cold at 79 with the AC on? One of the many mysteries of my life.
Two reasons.

1. When it’s 79 and cold with the AC on, it’s probably 90+ outside and your body knows it. When it’s 70 and no AC it’s 70 everywhere. No change.

2. AC probably creates drafts. Cold air blowing on you feels colder than its actual temp vs a lower temp that’s even throughout.

Ah ok. Makes sense. We now have a bunch of them here, not just the 1 or 2 that started in the valley. I still never go but the wife occasionally goes. Some of their bulk candy they like in then Fall and like I said my mom is a regular I think.

They both make perfect sense, thank you.

Add to that I think I'm feeling a little better today.

Good afternoon. It's partly cloudy and 98 on my front porch, or 96 in town.
I arrived home early from work, and found the tape holding the screen in my computer had loosened in the heat without the a/c running, and the screen has fallen out again--this time without me here to catch it.
I think it's time to make a decision about it. I really like the 5k screen and powerful hardware, but it's on the verge of being left out of any operating system security updates, as well as being somewhat of a power hog. It uses 330 watts when working, even when just watching movies or videos. The newer models have a 2.5" smaller screen with only 4.5k resolution, less ram, and much smaller storage. The newer ones only use 140 watts of power and don't generate nearly as much heat when working, even though they start at 2 times as powerful as what I have. They are also much thinner and lighter.
While I don't "have to have" a desktop like it, I would rather use it for everyday stuff, rather than my heavy-duty gaming computer that uses 850 watts of power, not counting monitor or speaker power.
I can get by for a while as-is, but I can see the writing on the wall, unless I just want to use the high-powered computer all the time.

@TLOC I hear you about the price of soda. I just bought 6-Canada Dry sugar free ginger ale for $4.79. I was waiting for a sale that never came and I can't run out of soda! I tried some sugar free 2 liters from Walmart; cola, some kind of 7-Up and Mountain Dew knocks offs. So far, they are all good and only $1. But I like the 16.9oz bottles to take in the bedroom with me. I tend to knock the bottle over with my decrepit hands when i reach for the soda at night. The lid saves me the mess a cup would make.
dy!

We just bought five cases of Coke for $9.99 on sale at Meijer. You had to by five to get the 9.99 price. I can remember crabbing about it when it went to $6.99 a case! We wait for that sale, as I refuse to pay upwards of $13.50 a case. I allow myself one a day, but it has to be regular as diet is bad for my remaining kidney. Soda is one of my last remaining vices, and I refuse to give it up!

by case, do you mean 12 packs of cans?

I may need to get into Meijer tomorrow.

Happy Friday to all................

I watched a YouTube video posted by a 2nd amendment supporter in Ohio. He stated in the last election only 16% of eligible voters voted. He said they lost 3 of the 4 good representatives that were 2nd amendment supporters. Sad to know 84% of registered voters did not take time to vote. My post here is non-political........just saying I believe voting for someone who represents your views is very important no matter what the cause. I voted last Wednesday and I understand sometime you have to vote for the lesser of two evils but not all the time. Again my post is just to stress the importance of voting, non political.

Have a great weekend............

John

Happy Fridy to all you working types! the below video popped up in my memories today and I thought I'd share it. It's a long one, first some slides on our club history, then a bunch of eye candy from the open run night. One of my trins appears at 13:15 at 17:39.

What's the 1739-er? Very cool looking.

Yesterday I bought two bags of navel oranges (total 10 oranges), a bag of Honeycrisp apples , two packages each of blueberries, blackberries, and red raspberries, a bag of sugar snap peas, five ears of sweet corn a loaf of French bread, some guacamole, and a six pack of those little angel food cakes for the strawberries. $69! Yeah, it was Sendik's (sort of an upscale store in my neck of the woods), but most of the stuff was on sale or marked down. Their produce is just better. The last bag of navel oranges I bought at Sam's, half of them were dried out. It wasn't a deal breaker for me, but not so many years ago it would have been. I don't know how some folks are doing it these days. It's just nuts!

Thanks! I just looked around and saw that they used an 8 pin connector between the cars to transfer rail power and lighting. Pretty cool.
No problem! It ties in well with my love of short passenger trains. It's a very well done piece, and the thing is a rocket ship! Itis really fast. I have this early Vity train, a 1941 City of San Francisco, and a 1950's City of Los Angeles.

I don't see that as a bad deal!

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those with words of one sort or another.
It's Troy again.

I found this little fellow out in the wild. Hopefully it will follow me home.

Took most of my Nscale cork back to the LHS and was able to return it with a restocking fee. Picked up some minor things like rail joiners and track nails. Have the rest of the return on a store gift card. Unfortuantely, all the store has in stock right now is a bunch of gondolas, hoppers, and some tank cars.

I'm in the market for 40 and 50 foot box cars. I know most 40ft boxcars were phased out by the 80s, but a few won't hurt, and will handle the 18 to 22" radius curves.

I've got a box of the Woodland scenics foam roadbed on order and a couple of Atlas #6 code 83 turnouts on order.
Troy look at Accurail models. Check Walthers.com for retail pricing and than your favorite places to buy. Accurail are very decent inexpensive cars but pricing varies widely online. I always check Walthers to see the retail pricing. Have fun
