One of the topics discussed between clinics was the insanity of buying something we want now hand then when you want to get rid of it you're getting pennies on the dollar. My comment was get what you can now because your surviving wife/family member will probably give everything away, throw it in a dumpster, or sell it all for $25 at an estate sale.

I have a love affair with small 1st generation and industrial engines. I couldn't resist picking up one of the Walthers ML-8 Plymouths. This one is DCC and to my surprise it crawls really well and has a Go Power capacitor in it. Great value for just under $145 delivered.
I added a horn and some lettering before making it really grimy.
Troy, it's nice you have the choice of scale, I really had to go with N to have any kind of running. One suggestion I will make on N scale minis, is paint the faces white or very pale then use Reaper Minis Sepia Liner on the face. It darkens up the skin to an average tone and makes shadows in the eye area.
The news says 4 crew members ejected safely from the planes. They didn't say how many were on board.
Each of those planes carry two crew.

As long as the reporting is accurate, all crew members ejected safely.
4. One each front and rear. Four 'chutes, four crew. All safe.

Plus the fact of it may not be available at that price when available now if you have to go on the secondary market and its a highly sought after item.
Also you don't know when or if it will ever be rerun again.
My rule is: Buy a lifetime supply while its available!

I never have resale in my mind when buying anything. I have sold my cars for whatever was offered. I had one kid who was struggling in the Navy, whose car had just died and had 2 kids. I basically gave him the car that I had as I was still riding my bike to work anyway. I would have liked to have gotten some money for the truck that I had done the motor transplant in, but never heard what happened to it.
I mod my trains and only care that I don't shmuck it up to where it doesn't work. I don't care to keep it pristine for resale, but do appreciate the folks that do that as I can buy those models that are no longer available.
This is a hobby and while we all have to budget ourselves, look at it as enjoyment. Okay you got to run some trains that you enjoy for a while and we will never get the dollar amount out of what we put into them. If we do, it's because we have invested "sweat equity" into repairing or improving something we bought cheap, intending to improve it. Look at the money spent the same as if you went to a movie or played a round of golf. Crud, I spent $15 last week on a lousy lunch!

My wife’s hair dryer also doesn’t get hot. Those thermal fuse thingies were also suggested to me. I just haven’t gotten around to taking it apart and figuring it out.
Thanks for the example though. It motivates me to figure it out.
1 of the basic tenants of electricity that I was taught right after Ohms Law was that fuses don't blow for no reason at all. Either they degrade as a result of too much current (as in a shorted circuit) or in the case of thermal fuses, excessive heat. In each case it is there to protect the user. If it fails once, look for a cause. If nothing is found, replace it. If it fails a second time, either find the cause and fix it, or scrap it.
Chad, I don't want to hear that the hair dryer gave the wife a new hair do!
Finally after finishing the basement and building a couple of cabinets for my shadow box layout I have the KG&B railway back up and running in its new home.
One of the basement rooms is for hobbies and the little railroad is in its new place. With ac and heat to boot!!
Couple of pictures of the shadow box layout and base cabinets.
And I did some night time pictures also of the railroad.

That's so awesome! Looks like you fell victim to the picturewon'tuploadduetositestuffgoingon - itis.
Absolutely, a beauty of a set up.
The news says 4 crew members ejected safely from the planes. They didn't say how many were on board.
Growlers have 2 each. Pilot and back seater. They are specialized versions of the F-18 Super Hornet -- turned into a premier electronic warfare aircraft.

I suspect that cheap Chinese thermistors just easily degrade.
