Good Morning All. Clear and a still cool 60°, heading up into the 90's for a few days. Long range forecast, for whatever that's worth, shows rain every day next week. Cooler days beginning Saturday if you call 87° cooler. Air quality alert today due to no wind. Maybe I should not have grilled the past two days! The alert includes the county 1 mile south of us but not our county; it mainly centers around Dallas county, which is another county south from us.

I finished installing the remaining Tomato cages yesterday, although I still have a few plants to set out. They're from seeds that my wife planted, albeit 6 weeks later than they should have been planted. Those plants probably won't bear in the Spring, but they will in the Fall. Unless we have another Summer like 2023 where there were a few spells where the nighttime temperature fell below 75°for a week or more and the flowers pollinated. We're still using Tomato sauce canned that season.
Mowing and weedeating took a big chunk out of my day, just trying to stay ahead of Sunday's rain. Maybe 3/4 acre on the North and Northwest sides. I should do the Southwest side today. Used the weedeater around the garden fence...today it's around the pool.

But first up today is the dishwasher and a trip out to the dumpster with the trash.
Found this critter walking around the yard this morning.

It's about 14" across the shell. I have seen and maybe photographed/posted this turtle in the past.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I resumed cleaning various structures in the current cleanup area. Nothing special of note. I also put the Autorack train back on it's storage shelf after running it a few more laps.

Todd - Congratulations on the new addition. It might soon be following the dog through the doggie door!
David (Marlin) - That Black-Seeded Simpson Lettuce variety is one of my standard varieties. It never fails me.
Mike - I remember taking driver's ed 60 years ago. I had previously driven maybe 3-4 miles with my Mom in the neighborhood before riding the bus to the driver's ed class. We drove a car for about 5 minutes when the instructor told me to get on the ramp and drive on IH30 and head east! I was somewhat unsettled as I had never driven over 40 mph prior to that.

Stevie Wonder turns 76 today. He'll always be known as "Little" Stevie Wonder to me, based on his appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show in the 60's! Saw him live only one time in 1972 opening for the Rolling Stones in Ft Worth. The audience was quite raucous.
Everybody have a great Wednesday.

Not sure how to gauge
when they are ready to actually go out on the roads.
With my kids, once they didn't hit the curbs in the church parking lot, we drove on the roads. But only in the neighborhood. We practiced stop at stop signs, making left and right turns at T and intersections etc, doing 3 point turns, etc. All inside the neighborhood. Night and daytime. My daughter just got her license like a year or a little more ago IIRC. Time blurs so this is fairly recent. My son was about 5.5, almost 6 years ago. They're still alive and no crashes (with anyone else).

Oh, and it's 74 and so sunny it almost hurts today. Supposed to hit 80, we will see. Tonight will be the last of the 3 hour Bible Class at Church for the summer. Great class, but wow, lots to study. It will be nice to just have the regular service for three months. Back is pretty stiff this AM, got some heat on it, Troy, take care of that Sciatic. Today's plan includes painting windows on buildings for the layout, I did wind up pulling the previous foam material up and turned the liftout back to it's designed orientation. Picked up some more clay at Hobby Lobby, this is in gray [or grey, depending on where you live].

Tell the son hello from an East House Vet, now retired, Collier.
If I ever see the kid. He works strange hours so it's hard to catch him.

I found the video of the town council and confirmed his firing. No reasons were stated during the meeting. I would imagine they already knew what was going on before the vote. But, fired he is.

I don't personally know the reason(s) yet, but I'll consider what I heard from my neighbor as heresy until I hear it either from my friend directly or from an iron-clad source. They have already moved up the unit numbers for all of the officers. Sparta 5 who I also know well, is now Sparta 4 and so on down the line. Strange to hear him reply as Sparta 4 after hearing a different voice attached to that number for years.

I don't know what he's going to do for employment, but he just bought the house they are living in two years ago. Big fat mortgage and no income now.

I love turtles. I've had water turtles, striped turtles, and box turtles when growing up. I always thought they were really cool pets. And they seem to live forever.

I pick up my NMRA regional convention packet today. I'm not going to be able to attend some of the clinics tomorrow unfortunately. I need to drive my mom to med appointment in downtown Portland. :( I will probably go to a couple of the layout tours, 2-3 clinics, Saturday night banquet, and buy a table at the swap meet. I going just to see what the organization does/is with no perceived prejudices.

On a financial note. I purchased, more like squeaked in, COHR for $45 and change, on April 4, 2025. I really don't like selling winners, but it's had such a huge run up over 13 months I decided to sell half at $401 this morning. I'll deal with the capital gains at tax time. I purchased 2 other data center infrastructure stocks on the same day that have almost performed as well and may take some of that money off table soon.

I truly wish everyone the same investing success.

Made a run to the hobby store, and then to one of the HO club members home. He also works at the hobby store, but when a used loco comes in that isn't repairable in the short allotment that the store allows for fixing, he's allowed to buy them, taken them home and refurbish on his own dime.

So, the Tyco boxcar and the refurbished Bachman (Uboat I believe?) I don't know my locos well enough to guess.

You'll note they're a bit larger than my normal N scale

What's interesting is that whoever had the loco before it hit the hobby store's used pile, tried to weather it.

But only one side of it...

The other side is clean.

I now understand the silliness of Tyco cars... truck mounted horn n hook couplers. Sounds like it's time for new trucks so I can get body mounted couplers.

Spent some time talking with Steve the loco repair guy. We discussed my fledgling layout and if I should convert to HO for everything, or keep the layout as N, and just do a module or two for the club as HO.

I think that's what I'll do. work on my layout as N-scale. But by the end of summer, get a module from the gent who likes to make the framework, and try to put some real effort into making a nice diorama module in a scale closer to what I normally use for gaming.

That theres tooooo much bn green lol

Is it just me or what? Every Bachmann diesel I have ever owned, (and 1 2-8-0 ) have had their can motors fail and turn into loud squealing hulks that were either tempered or scrapped. I’ve had better luck with Athearn blue box locos.

I've had better luck with Bachmann than BLI.
I think that is partly whether it is an older Bachmann or a newer model. Older ones were definitely trash. I haven't owned a newer one, it's just what I have read about them.
