There is also Greenland and Cuba still on the bucket list as places to see. September is generally a good travel month with decent pricing but every where I look lately my reaction is no f…ing way am I paying that. I keep hoping prices settle down but there are too many opposing factors right now.

Wait and see
September is still the middle of hurricane season, in the Caribbean. It should be very inexpensive to travel to Cuba at that time.;)

Gasoline around here hit $4.49 a week ago at mainstream stations but fell back to $4.45 and is now $4.42. Costco, Walmart, Murphy express, etc are a bit less.

Not the worst we’ve seen in the last decade and a half. But joining that ballpark.

Mostly sunny the next 10 days. From upper 80s to low 90s down to upper 60s are the scheduled highs. Looks like late spring is finally here. It’s been a bit cold the last several weeks, after an early warm spring start. Nights down into the 30- Days in the 50s and sometimes 60s. Last couple days a bit warmer.

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those with gas ... Taco Bell or otherwise inspired.

It's Troy again...

Took Lord Fuzzbut in for his grumpy old man shot (for arthritis). After trimming his toenails yesterday, and a drip to the vet today, he doesn't trust me near the treat bag any longer. And since Sweetie wields the clippers, she's really on his sh*t list.

Headed to the grocery this morning. Purchased a couple of things off list, but not a lot. It was still over $90. A year ago, that would have been a $60 trip. I did purchase a $12 bag of cat food, with $1 off coupon. That was the only real extra that could have waited.

While I was at the grocery, wife texted. "Is the internet out?"

Meaning, I should check the app on my phone to see if there is an outage reported.

Didn't see one, but while in the app, I checked the box to text me if there is one.

Two minutes later, I got a text from them.

Expected to be restored by 6:15 pm.

Wife has a very important client call with a grumpy client today. Of course.

Our back up location involves the sis-in-law's roommate... even with hearing aids in and on, she keeps her TV at volume 11.

So, I helped the wife get her work iPhone's hotspot going. Wife thought the hotspot only worked if the phone was on using wifi to get to the internet.

I had to simplify it down, but no. It will go for the cellular data internet, and use wifi to talk to her laptop.

Took a while on my phone to discover what the SSID of an iPhone is for the Windoze Network manager to connect to it. Once we got that squared, she's in. Internet is a tad slower than her connection to the Fiber Optic internet.

But, it looks the outage is because utility work in the area cut the fiber optic connection. Ooops.

So, I brought my comupter out to the patio, and am using my phone's hotspot for the afternoon.

I have a cousin who

I have a cousin who is 80 years old. He has never cooked anything on a grill in his entire life and has a small microwave he keeps in his shop, not in the house, because he read somewhere that microwaves can explode. He still does laundry on Mondays because that is the day that everyone should do laundry according to him. In the past, many years ago, Monday was usually set aside as laundry or "wash" day, thus his habit. He was married once in his life, when around the age 23, for 2 years and has a daughter he has seen twice in the last 50 years. Somewhere around the age of 19 to 21 he was in the Army with an honorable discharge. He is also what I call a functioning alcoholic usually getting drunk twice a day. He says he is lucky in that he always had a "taste" for cheap whiskey instead of the more expensive brands. He has smoked all his life and never had a DWI
( DUI in some states). He is indeed a unique individual......a walking medical miracle. He is about 28 in the waist, weighs around 105 and the only medical proceedure he has ever had done is a stint in his heart about 7 years ago. He also plays guitar ( 6 string and bass) and the piano and organ.
Oh well, don't know exactly what got me going down the road on family history here.

John
Is there a hidden subliminal message there?

When I flew my long commercial cross-country I went to Key West. I just missed the hurricane that devastated Homestead AFB by two days. I left Key west a few days early to avoid being confined to Key West while this hurricane passed. Glad I left when I did. But I didn't get to see Jimmy.

Good afternoon folks, 71 here and sunny, about as pretty a day as you could wish for. Got both a N and HO scale locomotive arriving today. The HO was an accident as I thought I was bidding on a Bicentennial Passenger car! Oh well, I will make sure it runs and have some fun with it. The N scale is a British prototype 2-6-0 and I'm going to do a "Midsomer/Father Brown' Consist.
Had two Dr's appointments this morning and they went well, I will be getting some injections in my back and hopefully that will help.
You guys have a good day.

I've only been fooling with this new radio for about an hour, but I'm really liking it so far. I just flashed the BIOS with the latest update, and the programming is so easy I didn't even have to crack the manual. This programs as easily as my Kenwood TH-D74 or my AR-8200 Mk III receiver.

It's all menu driven with system selections using pictograms that gets you to the appropriate sub-menu. Easy as pie. Audio seems OK, but I'll have to do more listening of various frequencies before deciding if it's really good. My Bendix-King PRC-127 has the best audio from any of my six handhelds, so that is the one to beat.

I've got programming to do now.

It doesn't help matters when Illinois has the 2nd highest gas tax in the country.

Wont be long and we will overtake CA for #1.

And that's why RT 66 will have to wait. 2 of the most expensive states for gas are on both ends. I always tried to avoid getting gas in Illinois when traveling to Michigan to visit my grandparents, stopping in Missouri or Indiana before crossing into the state. Haven't had to go that way since the grands passed and since dad passed 5 years ago, I haven't been back into Michigan. Sister moved mom into a care home near Kansas City (and Culver's is reasonably close), so even a Missouri trip is rare anymore.

Working on my layout, the liftout is a town covering the access to a double tracked section under it. The main buildings are resin castings, so they are solid and sturdy to grab.
