So using a Gmail account probably triggers something. I'll have to check eBay. One of my accounts there is a Gmail account IIRC. I forget as the crews are all saved in my keychain.

But as far as I understand it it just needs to know that you are you when iterates the passkey to verify the truthfulness of it so that it can trust it later.
So my current eBay account is not tied to my Gmail so it did not ask me anything google oriented and it turns out I already had a Passkey created, but still logged in with username and password to see what happens.

If I go to the login screen on eBay it lets me use a "Email or username" and Password, or "Continue with Google", "Continue with Facebook", "Continue with Apple".

If your email is a Gmail it ay trigger an authentication. I'd try creating the passkey, go through your normal Gmail login process, and then see if when using the passkey later on it still triggers the Google thing or if it was one time. It should be one time.

Here's a screenshot from my laptop. If I click "continue", it sends me to Google, no matter what it says about Windows:

It's more likely that our colleges and universities are set on teaching about gender studies and crap. I don't see, at most universities, that foreign students are the big clientele
Gender studies, like Barista studies and basket weaving etc. are profit centers for the school, and benefit students with low potential that serve the schools DEI fetish, and "Scholar Athletes".

I used to walk through the University of Pennsylvania Campus while I worked in Philly, in the 2000s. At class change time, one could get a reading as to what the student body looked like. Mostly female, and Asian (All parts of Asia, not just the Orient). Adjacent Drexel University's student body was a bit more inclusive, but otherwise reflected a similar population.

( I still labored under the delusion that I could get into one of the MBA programs and get Amtrak to pay for it). NYET! Not a chance!

Who says that the “Asians” were foreign? While I knew some students from China at the university and one from Singapore, most of the “asians” were U.S. citizens. Their parents or grandparents may have been immigrants but they were born here.

Asian immigrant families place a very high value on education, which is why the student bodies at many universities have above average Asian heritage American student percentages.

I thought you said you were on iOS.

I expect eBay/windows wants you logged in to Gmail if your verifying a Gmail based email account for passkeys. Try going to the Google thing and verifying. Get the passkey. Then log out of gmail and maybe restart the computer and see if it works just with the passkey.

I don’t use windows and my email is not Gmail so I cannot reproduce the situation.

I am not using passkeys, especially not with Google. Way back in the thread, I mentioned it was with all my devices, but the IOS stuff was the most blatant.

I guess this weekend is the time for electronic frustration. For a very long time, I've been getting nags from Microsoft to update my supported computers to Windows 11. I've resisted up to this point, but decided to embrace the inevitable and upgrade them. Imagine my surprise when, now that I've finally decided to upgrade, Windows said "we'll let you know" about the update. On both computers. Neither are primary machines, but one is a business laptop I use for work. I don't know if something changed, or if Microsoft is punishing me for dragging my feet. More likely, now that the deadline is less than six months away, everybody has decided to perform the upgrade, and is overloading their servers.
I'll keep telling myself that...
In other news, one of my Windows 11 machines has decided it doesn't want to update to the latest version, and I keep getting nags that I need to upgrade to the latest version, since 22h2 is no longer supported.

Good afternoon all. A cold, cloudy day with showers.
A large coffee please, Flo.
I spent Saturday in hospital. Pulled muscles and the like meaning I cannot walk. At least I am home now.

Thankfully Dawn is much better. Not 100%, but much better. We are like Darby and Joan up cripple creek.

Okay, in other, other news, I'm going to install a motor decoder in a Scale Trains Dash 9-44CW I picked up on the auction site last week.
I'm not sure what it says that I consider it easier to partly disassemble an N scale locomotive and install electronics than to perform an OS update...
