I use iOS and macOS all the time, even with a Gmail based address for a few services, and unless the service is a Google service itself, no one makes me log in to Google. (This is without passkeys). So I am a little confused on what the problem you're describing actually is.
The problem is Ebay keeps logging me out when I have "stay logged in" selected, and when I then have to log back in, Ebay tries to make me set up passkeys through Google whether Google is what I want or not.

I think what you said was that your userIDwith Ebay is your Gmail email account. So Google is involved because you are using a Gmail account as your login.

Try setting up the Passkey and see if once you create it, then Google won't be involved on future logins. To set up the Passkey, because the email is Google based, the passkeys need to make sure you own the Gmail account. Google won't be involved with the Ebay log in, just the creation of the Passkey by authenticating you with it.

Well, there's two chances I'll set up any authenticator with Google, slim and none. And Slim left town last week.

You're not setting up an authenticator. I agree with you -- I would never set up an actual authenticator from Google. I use an authenticator called Duo Mobile for sites I need to use an authenticator with. At my last job we had to use an authenticator and they tried to force us to use the Microsoft one since we used the Office apps for mail and stuff but I found an obscure settings in Office that let me set my own authenticator. No way I'd put an MS or Google authenticator on my device.

Your email is Gmail. You used that email as your login with Ebay. You have to authenticate with Google every time you log in to get email. When you set up the Passkey, which is not an authenticator, your Windows system or your iOS device will generate the Passkey. In order to generate the passkey, it has to authenticate you one time as part of the Passkey generation that you own the Google account you're using as your login with Ebay. I am pretty sure that's all that is going on here. Ebay may never even know about this -- it's between your Windows machine or iOS device and the Passkey...

I have a Microsoft authenticator app on my iPhone, as well as an Okta authenticator app. When I objected, I was given two choices: Get and use the apps, or find another place to work. The door is over there, and the road out of here goes to the left.

Good evening, gang!

Wooden trains. Yes that’s what I’ve been working on something that my son number two gave me for my birthday. It’s about 80% completed and then I have to start on the tender. It’s nice that I go to work on it while I was watching the NASCAR race Rather than napping like I usually do when it’s on.

Morning all,

Busier weekend than I imagined, lots happened (more than I wanted).

First Got off early Thursday and headed to Sam's to pick up both prescriptions and an order the wife placed. Shut off the wife's car, and went to restart and a chunk, chunk chunk noise...dead battery. Son in law was in town, his office a half mile away, came and jumped the car. Made it home 25 miles home. Tells me the alternator is good. Battery was $240 I hadn't intended to spend. Sam's could have done the battery, but I'd have had to wait 3 hours and because there is a computer module on top of the battery, there would be another $50 instead of the free install for the battery. A 10mm socket undoes the 1 bolt that locks it in place and then a plastic tab unlocks it the rest of the way. 30 seconds and they want $50.

Friday the bathtub guys come, fortunately no issues with that, but I did pop my "good" (not replaced) knee while mowing.

We have a curtain in place as this being a small room felt if one had a fall, would be easier to get help without taking a shower door apart.

Saturday on my way in to update servers, get a call mom is being sent to the hospital with breathing issues, so as soon as I can get the servers completed, the wife and I headed to the Kansas City area and spent the weekend with the local sister being in the ER and CCU. She finally started out of it late yesterday afternoon. Got home late for us yesterday evening. Sister texted this mornings update and so far she's holding her own. We hope it's not a last rally so to speak.

On Friday, I did get the peach tree sprayed. I think I'll get a couple:

One branch, it will be mid-August before they will be ready, but most are ping-pong ball sized. When we don't get the late freeze, it tends to fruit heavily. Too bad I lost the other tree. According to the Garden gurus it's nearing the end of it's productive life. I'll just keep it pruned and think it'll be good longer. This is it's 11th year in my yard, and they say to expect 10-15 years of production. At this point I have this and a blueberry bush left.

And now I'm in the office where it's 50° and clear going for a high of 75°.

I'll catch up on the 6 pages of missed stuff in a bit.

Good Morning All. Happy Cinco de Mayo. It's mostly cloudy and 56° this morning. Rain is predicted to be on the way late today and all day tomorrow. The forecast is for another inch. Other than tomorrow, temperatures are supposed to be in the 70's until the weekend when they return to the 80's.

On the subject of dropping phones in lakes and iced tea; I was having my septic tank pumped out a few years ago, and the employee was holding his phone to his ear with his shoulder when it fell. Of course it went straight into the septic tank where it still is to this day. He said that it was the second one that he lost that way. Lesson (that should have been) learned: Don't use your cell phone while at work!

Yesterday was spent on household tasks after church. I eventually did do some mowing but only on the northwest part of the yard next to the hayfield and pond. It's the highest part of the yard that I maintain. Most of the rest is still too waterlogged and I don't need to deal with tractor ruts. I might be able to get to some other places today if the rain holds off long enough.

I continued slowly on the parking lot out in the train shed yesterday. Added a second coat of paint, even though the first was on top of a light earth color to begin with. Then I added ground foam between the railroad ballast and the parking lot edge. I'm not real prototypical with my right of way, it's way too narrow, but real estate is hard to find on a layout. Filling that parking lot will be an expensive endeavor.

The fence is going to be next after the wet glue dries overnight. My backstory is that neither the property owners nor the railroad knows who put the fence up, so neither one maintains it. I initially considered just using Woodland Scenics chain link fencing.

But I decided that it was too neat and in good shape for me to use. So I will make my own with .010" wire and tulle (wedding veil material) to look like some I have made elsewhere. Besides, the WS fence is 5' tall, and I think that a 4' older dilapidated one will look better. I can also bend posts to look like they have been hit by cars.

Maybe I can do this one without those big globs of super glue being so obvious. Vegetation will help disguise them if needed. The fence will require some time to build properly; in the meantime I will be adding additional coarse ground foam and start striping the lot.

I don't know if anybody else has gotten any notifications about this, but BLI is having an open house/garage sale June 7th at their location in Florida.
Do you reckon it is a prelude to going out of business?

Everyone have a magnificent Monday.

Well, howdy there internet peeps, and those with snap, crackle, and pops going on outside of the cereal bowl

It's Troy again. Back is about 70% useful. Being very careful with any twists or bends for the next few days.

Made the grocery run. This counts as groceries, right?

this was more stock up on cleansers than actual food. But I did get a bag of Hershey's chocolates for the wife. And a bag of salad for me.

Was able to sit in the hobby chair for a while yesterday and put some paint on a dino... Roughing in the colors so far:

Today is laundry, and work on the audio book. I'm actually impressed by the AI voice generator. Sound really good for about 90%. And pretty good the rest of the time.

Hey Gang!

Looking for a unicorn,
GRAND CANYON FPA4.jpg

Rapido FPA-4 in Grand Canyon Rwy livery. Rapido is out of them, eBay has none,(I've had a search for the last 6 months) I am hoping that there is a dusty box somewhere on a LHS's shelf somewhere that holds one that needs a home.
Why?
Sharon and I were married on the south rim of the Grand Canyon after taking the train from Williams Az. She wants me to duplicate the car we rode both ways (Kokopelli, decals are available) and I would much rather have one of these pull it than the more modern F40.

any other ideas??

After much cursing and gnashing of teeth, I was able to get Windows 11 installed on everything it ostensibly is compatible with. If it completely wouldn't work for some reason, I wanted to find out before any more tariff-induced price increases took affect. I'm going to leave the Macbook Pro with its Windows 10 partition, and I haven't decided yet about the Mac Pro. This was its final year for security updates for its Mac OS, and with Windows 10 at EOL, I'll need to make a decision. I'll probably use it as a spare for a time, unless a major vulnerability surfaces 2 weeks after end of support, like it did Windows 7. It isn't critical, and my iMac will run circles around it. I'll probably put Linux on it, since I can't bring myself to simply toss something that eye-wateringly expensive in the trash like a spoiled steak.
In other news, Ebay seems to have stopped demanding I create passkeys, and is graciously allowing me to remain logged in like I ask.

Custom paint?

Back in my pre-married days this was Happy Cinco de Drinko day. Now it's Stay-Off-The-Road-After-6pm day.

Too nice to be indoors lately. Mid 60's to mid 80's and with our normal humidity around 25%-30% there's no reason not to be outdoors.

The only train stuff I am doing when I feel like being in my office is building an old Thomas Yorke engine house kit. The extremely detailed hydrocal walls are stamped 1988 and it's like an old Campbells kit. Templates to cut out everything that's not hydrocal. There's instructions for building a recessed base, but you need to supply the plastic. Old school craftsman type kit.
