Yesterday I was cleaning up the layout and touching up the scenery when I decided to mess around with the camera and take some “night time” pictures. The one of the gas station is my favorite.

These are beautiful! But maybe I'm missing something, since I have no scenery for my layout. How is all that blue colour appearing on objects? hihi! It's neat but it caught my attention as an experienced amateur photographer. Is it edited or some kind of paint?

Good evening all. Time to make a Korean style dinner.

Meanwhile 'Rusty' on a trip

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those with shiny whatevers....

it's Troy again.

busy day already. It was game day at the local store. This month is rough trying to get people in to play. Today being mother's day took most out of the loop, even if we were playing 9am to 11a.

Had one gent want a demo game. Two others were going to make it in. One of them just lost his mother about two weeks ago, so I can understand him wanting an escape from Mum's Day stuff ... but he got lost in work and forgot about us.

However, I had one gent need another demo game.

Had to cut it short because my sis and her BF were in town to see a show. They live in SE Michigan, so if they're driving in 3.5 hours, I felt like we should go break bread together.

While I didn't get chance to put him on the field of battle, I did get to break out the freshly painted Quizzy the Quatl.

For the record, he was still shiny for the game date this morning. I've since remedied that with a Krylon Matte Clearcoat.

I have just finished another structure
Very nice. The model is based on a PRR Watchman's Cabin. When the C&P RR was in the process of reopening the former PRR/PC Freehold Branch, they discovered one at the Allaire Road Crossing, hidden by years of overgrowth. The crossing protection was automated in the mid 1960s. It was an expanded version with an attached privy in the rear, and was in surprisingly good condition.

Just got back from a walk with the dog. She stuck her head in some high grass for about 20 seconds. After we got home I noticed something small crawling on her head. Another tick, but it was a Western Black Leg and not a Dog tick this time. I wasn't real happy because the Black Leg's pass Lyme disease. Thankfully she's on Simparica, but I'm not. We've never worried about ticks until this year because we never had any. It seems like since the end of February I've been finding one crawling on her head once a week.

When I was a commercial pest inspector I never worried about bed bugs. They don't pass diseases.....they're just considered a nuisance. Ticks freak me out.

I have my switching layout in a shadow box and I have rope lights that I can change the color. I use blue lighting for night time operation and "white" lighting for daytime operations. I love taking pictures of models and try to make it look like it's full size.

Wow, that last picture - crazy grade!

Are all those engines getting ready for scrap?
That's one of the two hump yards. I had to zoom way in so I'm sorry for the shaky video and grainy but you can still see the hump yard in action.

There are no engines that are there are scrap. They just don't have the call for them at this time. They said about 75% of the engines actually running over the line. The rest are stored here when business picks up. Some are in for repairs and others are just waiting to be put back in service.

Again sorry for the shaky video but it is cool nun the less.

Good video, I have never seen a hump yard in action. I programmed the hump yard, at Colton Ca. but never saw it in action.

What is the purpose of a hump yard? Just to roll cars around without a switcher? I am guessing each car has some brakes applied to keep them from flying like that one covered hopper that was following the tandem. The experience level that they have to do that is incredible.

Good to know about the engines. Was worried, I guess. I've seen some stuff on the interweb about train graveyards and the engines there seemed relatively new.

What is the purpose of a hump yard?
I am not an expert, but it's main purpose is to sort cars by gravity. An engine of some sort pushes cars up the hump, a yard hand pulls the coupler release lever at the top and the cars roll down the hill. Someone in a tower lines the switches and the cars go into a predetermined track. Something called retarders will slow the car down and it stops when it makes contact with cars already positioned on the track. Some of this may now be computerized. The sorting is based on outbound destinations. It is more efficient than having a switcher push individual cars into the outbound tracks.
Someone with more knowledge might be able to add to this.
