On to other issues.
I don't remember if I said anything at the time, but I had sold my SP layout in January, and took a $500 deposit through Paypal, with the balance to be paid on pickup in 60 days from the date of the deposit. It's now 60 days past the 60 day mark, and I'm still waiting for the buyer to do anything. Emails and attempted contact through Paypal haven't gone anywhere. I don't dare sell the thing again, and if I try to refund the money, Paypal will keep their fees, leaving me eating a chunk of money.
Any suggestions? The buyer can get his money back for a year after payment... I'm just glad I insisted only on a deposit...

It could be the buyer is having health issues or worse.

Did you stipulate any terms on the deposit? I've always had a no refund policy on deposits. I never stuck to it, but it gave me the option.

Afternoon all! Flo, got any hot Chai on tap?

I discovered today that I have 4 days of vacation time left, and if I don't use them by the end of June, they evaporate. Therefore, with my 12 month position at the school giving my half-day Fridays in June and July, 4 vacation days buys me the last two Fridays in May, plus 4 Fridays in June off! With my new vacation days arriving July 1st, and me taking Fridays off in July, this was my last five day work week until August!

It's a sunny, warm weekend coming up! Perfect time to get some gardening done, followed by an evening with the garage door open working on the layout. Life is looking pretty good at the moment!

Afternoon All,

It's been thunderstorms off and, on all day, and a constant gray sky. I did some chores earlier then stared at the layout for a while accomplishing not a thing. :(

Louis- Willie pretty much said it all.

AemJaY1-Photos of your layout.

Bill- Cool photo. It must have been a real event when the train arrived in town back in the day.

Todd- I'm glad Maria is back home.

Troy- Good looking player pieces. Good luck with your Mom.

Patrick- Have a good time with the grandkids.

TomO- Nice layout shot. Enjoy the concert tonight.

Guy- Great looking progress.

Willie- Our gas jumped 41 cents in 2 days here. No price fixing seen here.

Hughie- That's horrible. If power stays off for any length of time, it's going to get ugly there.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Well howdy there internet peeps.

It's Troy again.

Mom update: Released from the hospital this morning. I had a VM from the hospital letting me know when I got out of the shower. Evidently there's a three days in the hospital rule for Medicaid/care to pay for rehab stays. The doc kicked her out soon after she qualified. ;) But he's working with us, and he sees that Mom is on the cusp of needing a nursing facility.

In other Mom news, she had a follow up with her Macular Degeneration Ophthalmologist on Monday. I called to reschedule, and ended up talking to the nurse. Mom had me listed as able to request medical info, and the nurse read the Dr. Notes that said mom had refused follow up shots, and wanted just to be monitored. Once I explained what we were facing, and how the visits to the Dr aren't an issue with me, but Mom is getting surly about them, the nurse suggested we get an Amsler grid and have mom check her vision every week.

Knowing mom, she'd have the card in front of her, backwards, and tell me it was fine. She doesn't want the shots any more. Which I can totally understand. However, not being able to see, and living on her own won't work well.

That's fine. When she can't see to get around, we'll make a trip to her MD and he can start the paperwork to get her into the healthcare center with skilled nursing.

Wife and I will make the pilgrimage over to see her in the rehab place tomorrow to visit.
My mother in law stopped accepting the shots in her eyes because they hurt when the needle was poked. When she was told she may lose her eye sight she said then Teresa will have to come care for her. Terry had just retired and her mom expected her to move to Racine and care for her even though she was living already with the youngest daughter. The youngest daughter though was working in an important job per MIL and didn’t have time to care for her.

Hope your mom is much more sane than was Terry’s

Good afternoon.
I've spent some quality time with our IT department, and they in turn have tried to resolve the issue through both Motility, which is the software company, and Apple, that sold me my iPhone. Currently I am in the middle of a 100 million dollar company trying to tell a trillion dollar company how to do business. Other than grabbing a bag of popcorn, I'm just waiting for a resolution.
I've got an old iPhone 6 you can have for shipping if you want a "burner" to leave in your toolbox. I'd love to see the IT guys figure out how to get it to work with their system. It might even be 3G

Is the problem that the app uses outdated TLS versions and iOS is blocking connections?

Afternoon to each and everyone! Well I just finished my first resin kit. The glue is drying. The jury is still out as to whether we like it enough to use to replace the existing plastic stuff or not.

I've always modeled in HO but when On30 came around I did think about changing to that scale. Only because I thought I could do better at detailing and scratch building since my eyes are not as good as they use to be. But having so much in HO scale I just kept with it and with a some Optivisor Binocular Magnifiers, makes my modeling easier.

So, I'm still an HO scaler for now.

AppleWatch says it's 57 F-degrees outside. Highs in the mid 80s today.

First up today is post-Mothers Day luncheon with the wife's family. Grandkids think there has to be a family gathering on every hallmark holiday, but their idea of organizing is "lets bring crockpots to grandmas 1 bedroom apartment in the Senior Home"... logistically, that's 20ish people in a setting that can handle 4-5. And Grandma only has a bar sink, and mini fridge. No real kitchen.

After that its the 1.5 hour drive to go see how my mother is doing.

I'll report back this evening. Y'all keep the lights on here, and tip your servers well.

Good morning from the deserts of Neveda. I don’t know why I am so much more comfortable feeling here in the Vegas desert compared to the Cave Creek, Arizona desert. It’s not the being in the city/suburbs as the housing situation is the same in both! But I do like it here even though yesterday it did hit 100f degrees.

We saw Adele and it was a very good time. We have now seen her, Diana Ross (twice and by far the best) Cher, Santana, Bette Midler, Elton (4 times), Brittany Spears, Barbra Streisand (enchanting) Donny and Marie, Donny without Marie (much better), Carrie Underwood, Wayne (terrible) Newton and others lesser known and forgotten by me. The tickets for the performance tonight were given to the son and his girlfriend who fly in today, my sister who comes in today and Terry, my golf partners wife and the brother’s g/f are going to see her again. I do remember in 1989 when we first came out here how expensive we thought Diana Ross tickets at $50 each were. Terry told me when she purchased the 6 tickets for 2 nights not to look at the prices to see Adele, I did this morning.

Slept only 3 hours after getting back to the brother’s last night, so I know a nap will occur sometime today. We are playing 9 holes of golf tonight under the lights and it’s not mini golf. My brother says it’s a different feel and fun…

Tomorrow the golf we are out here for starts with a 9:20 tee time.

Enjoy your day

We've got friends who moved from Glendale CA to Henderson NV (Henderson is a suburb of Vegas). Wife and I really like that area... except

Wife gets nosebleeds in dry air. She had a gusher when we were out seeing Red Rocks. Our friends, who we stayed with, put a humidifier in their guest room just for my wife. And it still wasn't enough.

Otherwise, it's a great spot and I'd love to retire there in a few years. But having the wife bleed out while we're outside...

Good morning everyone!

Another beautiful Northern Illinois day on tap. The temps are going up to the mid 80s with plentiful sunshine.

Got the mowing done last night, so its just a few household chores this morning then I should be free for the rest of the weekend.

Have a great Saturday all!

Morning all,

Strange that of 6 servers needing updates, 4 are ready in 20 minutes...the other 2 probably another hour. It's ok, I get paid by the hour. I typically start the updates at 7:00a and start rebooting at 8:00a when I say the maintenance window opens. It can take a couple hours for the updates to apply before the reboot is ready.

65° and clear with the high later of 88°. Grandkids helped with the lawn and some laundry as they will be helping when I'm recovering in a few weeks. 2 of the 4 are out of school and the other 2 will be out on Tuesday, differences in the districts. So in the fall we'll have a freshman, 2 6th graders and a kindergartener. They are growing up too quick.

And while I'm not paying attention, the final 2 servers are ready to reboot. Hopefully once they're up, no more updates for now.
try to BBL

Good Morning All. Clear and 64° this morning. It's been 45 hours since the last rain!!! However there is a heavy dew. Expecting 90° for a high for the next three days after just 85° yesterday. Then the rains return Tuesday if the NWS is correct.

I spent most of yesterday doing various outdoor tasks in places where the ground wasn't still too soft from Thursday's rain. I got the remaining Tomato cages up so that is out of the way. Just 44 plants this year. I just don't need quite as many this year since I still have almost 40 quarts of various Tomato products left in the pantry from the absolute banner year in 2022, when I didn't get the usual July-August pause in production. I picked some more onions and spread them out to dry. Still too soon to trim the ones picked early last week but they can be used for cooking/eating right now, which took two yesterday. My wife made herself a batch of Broccoli-Cheese soup to put in the freezer and I used one for stir-fry last night. I also did some weedeating, which is one outdoor job that I absolutely hate.

Today starts with the dishwasher once again, I ran it before bed last night. Later on I will be going to the memorial service for my recently passed neighbor. It will be the first memorial service that I am going to in over a year. That is good in a way! It's at 1:00, so I don't know how much time I will have afterward

Yesterday out in the train shed, all that I did was tie up loose ends and paint some stuff. Didn't bother with pictures yet; sometimes work in progress just isn't interesting. Hmmmh! Is it work in progress or work in process???
Since I mentioned the Rail Museum on my layout yesterday, I'll just post a few pictures of that today. The first was taken before scenery and fencing were added.

It is a way to use and display some outdated equipment that I have.

Todd - Good luck with the well, water is kind of important. Hope that Maria's health continues to improve.
Tom O - Yea, I never participate in the MR forum, but I do read stuff there, more so in years past. As I posted I have never dealt with PWRS, but have only read about them on the MR forum and one other back in the day. I think that the other forum was the one later known as Zealot. You reinforce my belief that they are quirky.
Terry - That's interesting regarding the layout sale.
Curt - I have had those "stared at the layout" days before. It always reminds me of pending projects.
Hughie - I think that the bank looks good, if it's used in the right surroundings. Otherwise use it as a pawn shop.

Today is Armed Forces Day here in the US. Thank a member of the military for their service.
Everyone have a super Saturday and a wonderful weekend.
