Good Morning All. Mostly clear and 60°. Rain is still in the official forecast for today, but right now there is none closer than 300 miles away, mainly between San Antonio and Houston. The rain yesterday was over by 11:00, so I only had to drive in it on the way to town for the weekly grocery trek. My rain gauge had 0.4" when I got home. High yesterday was 76°, but that was at Midnight Wednesday; it never got above 72° during the daylight hours. Today's high is supposed to be 81°, into the 90's for a few days after today.
Terrible trip to the grocery store yesterday, apparently their overnight stocking crew didn't make it in, and they were out of many items. And they were understaffed yesterday morning, so finding someone to look for stuff in the back was impossible. I left a bad review on their feedback website. Departments that are usually very well run were in shambles.
Boy, gasoline prices in town yesterday were all over the place. The normally lowest places like Quicktrip and Race Track were the highest at #3.39/gallon. I saw one place that was advertising $2.99/gal; the general range was between $3.09 to $3.19 everywhere else.
The whole experience yesterday was negative, a lot had to do with stupid drivers everywhere even after the streets had dried off.
Today will be garden maintenance day here. I need to remove the Green Pea vines and the remaining Lettuce and Broccoli plants to the compost pile. No need to let them attract insects and slugs.
Another shortened day out in the train shed yesterday, although I did get some stuff done. Mostly fabricating and painting sidewalks which aren't installed yet.
Here's the first look at the alley between the Library and the Saloon.
Looks like I need a little fill-in next to the Library
The area between the Saloon and the Drug Store is the same, a little more filler needed here as well, although this area won't be visible from the aisle.
The next area to tackle is across the road from the grocery and the MR III structure.
I intend to just make a series of angled head-in parking spaces along the road here. On the left is an older Atlas Crossing Shanty.
It's a part of the Railroad Museum across the road to the left. I intend to fence it off with some Atlas Hairpin Style fencing, which I have used between the Museum and the RR tracks.
Progress report tomorrow.
Louis - That's interesting about the wild Strawberries.
Hughie - Thanks for the further insight into Pelican Island. Apologies for getting your name wrong in my original post - it has been corrected.
Jim -
Zurich was the first airport I ever went through, that had guards with machine guns standing at the corners of the aisles. This was in the 90's.
I experienced that in 1984 in Hamburg. Quite unnerving to me. My first visit to a European airport!
Tom O - Congratulations to your niece regarding the engagement. I'll also avoid the political rant which pisses me off greatly, (not at her).
Everyone have a fabulous Friday. We're missing some regulars here lately,
Karl, Sherrel & Tom (Cambria). Hope that all is well.
