Tom I never liked that rule. I should be the getting the free drinks. Thankfully our club has hole in one insurance included in the membership fee.
One of my classmates is setting up the Golf / Beach trip to Myrtle Beach for the day after Labor Day when all the rates go down. He emailed everyone that the $25.00 entry fee to get in all the bets went up to $30.00 this year because of inflation.
Swal
Everything is about inflation.

I never understood the golf rule about the person making the hole in one pays… No group insurance for hole in ones in our events. One of the guys in January got a hole in one in our event at TPC at Sawgrass. He gave the bar keep $900 and a 20% tip and said when the $900 is gone it’s gone. He had 90 players and few beer drinkers, in the event he played that week. To me who rarely drinks that’s crazy

Another reason I only Putt-Putt. If I can't smack a clown in the face with a green ball, I don't wanna play. Especially if I have to purchase booze for others because of luck. Let them go smack their own clowns. ;)

UPDATE ON MOM:

We had the meeting with the Rehab staff: PT, Nursing, Dietician, and social worker. They gave accurate assessments of what we'd observed with Mom. The social worker summed it up at the end that they were recommending she moving into "Healthcare". While I know thats not popular with some of you, this is what she set up for herself. She said that's why she took an apartment on the campus 15ish years ago. She knew this day was coming.

Sis #1 and I, along with my wife chatted with her after the meeting. She's not happy it's NOW, but she knew the day was coming. She wants to stay in Goshen (where she is now). It's in the middle of the family. Her sister is 2 hours west.

Her brother is in town. Her children are scattered and where she is located is in the middle of us. She's making sure her support group and family is near and she's not on one edge of that. She doesn't want it to be NOW, but this is what she wants.

So it will be.

Tomorrow, I call the supervisor of her apartment complex and find out next steps. Mom still has two weeks in the rehab side. Hopefully they don't press me to clear the apt this weekend.

Troy: Of course, you know that it's her decision and none of anyone else's business but her familys. Some of us would do something else as long as we are able, based on our experience and circumstance. But that's our business. Best wishes for your Mom and your extended family. She is fortunate to have a support network consisting on multiple siblings, and that she had the foresight 15 years ago to prepare for this day. Not everyone gets that opportunity.

Nursing homes... Every person/situation is different.

The woman who raised me spent the last few years of her life in a nursing home. She was happy and well cared for. I visited her regularly and others did as well. I wasn't a blood relative; I had no say in the choice. Her son made the decision and looking back it was the best choice. Even though I didn't think so at the time. I believe the diligent care she received made her last years as good as they could be. She passed away peacefully in her sleep, as she had hoped and prayed for.

My Mom was vehemently against going to a nursing home. The plan was to bring her to our house. My Mom never made it out of the hospital. We will never know if bringing her home with us would have been the right thing to do. I had my doubts, but I couldn't ignore my Mom's wishes.

I hear a lot of sad things about nursing homes. My only experience was all good.

Do your best and let God worry about the rest.

God Bless Us Everyone.

Well howdy there internet peeps, and those with interesting flags. I see quite a few on my drive back and forth along US 33 between my condo and mom's complex.

I was sleeping pretty soundly, until the neighborhood watch showed up at 3:49 to thank me for leaving the porch light on to aid with security. And, it was a guest star! None other than MothMan himself!

Mothman.jpg

I'm sure he apologized for triggering the motion sensor, but I don't speak Moth. Carry on, Citizen!

Since I was awake, I got up and started the day. Lots of phone calls to make. But, I don't want to be like MothMan and wake people. So, I'll do some typing.

Yesterday, before heading to Mom's, and with the Wife and Her Mom & sis out for the cemetery tour to drop flowers at Dad's and clean the headstones, I had some time to kill.

So I cleaned off the gaming table - what is it about horizontal surfaces that attract clutter? Then I started to work on a project.

shelves 1.jpg

Yep, time to extend the lighting on the shelves for the little toy soldiers. The shelf above this one had an LED strip, but it was damaged. I tried to reuse it, but there was an end of run solder splice I hadn't notice, and it broke when I tried to remove/reuse the strip. Bah! the tape on the back wasn't going to stick anyway.

Shelves2.jpg

I got two shelves lighted. Only had to flip one set of wires. Evidently I mounted one strip the wrong direction and had +/- reversed from the run below it. Today, I hope to get the next two done.

Shelves 3.jpg

Yep, the orcs claimed the first two shelves. The dwarves may argue with them about it, though.

On tap for today: Call and cancel the cleaning service for Mom's apartment that we're paying for. Call the intake person at the Healthcare place and see what we need to get the ball rolling there. And Mom agreed that it's time to get an official Medical Power of Attorney. We need to set an appointment to have one of their Notary Public on staff meet my sis and I at Mom's room to get the paperwork done. Sis will be primary, and I'm secondary.

I'm sure there's more I'll have to do, but that's all I can think of right now.

Well said, Boris.

What each person does in any situation is there way of dealing with it and nobody elses business.

Dawn and I send our thoughts and prayers to Troy and his family.

Good morning. It’s 70 and clear.
I had a brief one-sided chat with the people at the office yesterday about them removing all location and identification markings for the area I live in, which makes it impossible for delivery people to find me. Or emergency services, as well, now that I think about it. They’ve promised to at least restore the street signs so others will at least know the general area we are.

Good morning from home in Wisconsin!

A nice bright morning (the weather app calls it Clear) at 58f degrees going to 78. My golf partner the last 2 weeks is bored at home already! We left the ladies back in Vegas and he texted this morning he has a 10am tee time! The son and his g/f left at 6 for a flight to Racine, Wi to pick up some executives to head to Knoxville, Tn. So I’m golfing at 10

Enjoy the day

Good Morning All. Cloudy and 71° with a possibility of rain this evening. Don't want it, don't need it, can't do anything about it! Heavy thunderstorm about noon yesterday left me 1.25" in the rain gauge; another round about 7:00 pm left an additional 0.5". So the cycle starts anew. However it never got above 84° and we're looking at the same today.

Fortunately before the rain started, I got a few things accomplished outdoors. Mainly I reinstalled the window A/C in the bedroom which I take out for the winter. I also gathered up all of the onions drying in the garden and moved them under cover. I still have about a third of the harvest that isn't quite ready yet, but it will be Saturday before I can pick again.

A side note to the electric company and their wifi system for reading the meters now. In the next year, I am going to partially enclose my back porch and I do not have to be concerned with the guy having to read the meter after I enclose it.

Today is the usual weekly grocery trek, Ace Hardware and the Rx are already on the list. I think that my wife mentioned the Post Office as well.

Time out in the train shed yesterday was short again, so I just ran trains. I did look around for my next project as this current one is nearly as complete as I intend for now.

John - I have a lot of thoughts regarding these teens and others making $20/hr in fast food establishments. But some I can't express here because of the politics tag. Bit there are several things going wrong here. First, it's more than just teens doing those jobs and politicians/activists are clamoring for a "living wage". Back in our working days, those jobs were considered "entry level jobs", not meant for folks to support a family. That changed somewhere along the way in the last 20 years or so. Secondly, runaway inflation caused by reckless and thoughtless government policies have made everything cost much more. My Social Security COLA has not kept up, thankfully I am not dependent on that to live. Thirdly, I think that "entitlement" also plays into the equation. It's an attitude hoisted upon us by some of the same politicians.
I won't even get into your other subject of cell phones. While we both have one, we rely on our land line more, especially for important stuff. It never fails!

Jay - Glad that we can help you get to know our American life.
Swal - The place that I go to for MRI's has headphones to deaden the sound, but they also can pump music through them. I bring my own Pink Floyd CD with me.
Tom O - Sorry to read of your damages, but at least no one was hurt. Seems like you have it all under control from here.
Mac - I didn't really see any bystanders offering to help except the women throwing water.

I am very sympathetic to those who are dealing with older relatives in their twilight years. I cannot offer any advice or experiences, as both of my parents passed away at home; my youngest brother was watching after them. Both of my in-laws passed within 3 days of being admitted to a hospital, from their home. I did have a brother-in-law who lived in an assisted living center for about a year and had nothing but good things to say about his time there, but I can only rely on what he said. Your experiences are enlightening and informative.

Everyone have a great day

How do you suppose would anyone help a person like that in this situation? Problem with lack of proper parenting is obvious here, that woman didn't even show any survival instincts, and the guys were yelling at her to get away even as she was stubbornly getting her bags in the face of danger. Reminds me of a few airplane catastrophies where people were trying to get off a burning plane while some were more concerned with getting their bags from the overhead bins, with unfortunate consequences.

Back when I worked for the Penn Central most of the time, I was on runs that had swing time in New York City. Now you wouldn't catch my dead in the place. On the golf trip to Myrtle Beach I'll be crossing the Hudson river long before the George Washinton bridge. It's a little out of the way but better safe than sorry.

Morning folks

33F and big fluffy flakes drifting straight down. A winter wonderland. It was raining relatively hard at 12:20 am when I took the dogs out but that turned solid state sometime before 5:00 am. About 4" of wet mush now and accumulating quickly. The rain phase put 0.67 in the gauge and was certainly welcome.

Damn, I may have to work on trains today.

Throws another log in the wood stove.
And the Darwin award goes to:
I hope the bull wasn't too traumatised by this Karen.

Just practicing for a trip to Yellowstone----
