Does it save enough gas to pay for all the extra starters and labor to install them? My son has this "feature" in his Jeep, and he's on starter #3 at 78k miles.
Chad - That "engine off" at stop lights may save gas, but how often does the starter need replacing?
I offered no advice to either the son or daughter (+hubby) on car/SUV/truck purchasing but 1. Pay for it in full.My oldest daughter had a big Jeep. I advised her to buy a Chevrolet. She bought the Jeep; she took my advice and bought the extended warranty. As it turned out she did not need the extended warranty. She only kept the Jeep for two years. Free repairs and loaner cars did not make up for the time spent going back and forth to the dealer.
I will say it was a pretty vehicle for a lady.

Great pictures and scenes WILLIE.Good Morning All. Happy Mother's Day to all of your wives and mothers. Cloudy and 67° after a thunderstorm woke me up at 0300; one hazard of sleeping with open windows although I can usually hear thunder when they are closed. It just doesn't always keep me awake. Looking at the gauge a bit ago and there is 0.35" in it, so a bit over 3/4" in two days.
After the storm passed I went back to bed and I am now late with everything.
I picked English Peas from the garden yesterday, just a handful so far. I'm now concerned about those plants after the two 95°+ days last weekend, as they stopped flowering which will limit the harvest to the pods already on the plants. Still lots of pods, but no flowers!
Out in the train shed yesterday I just added a few trees and some more ground cover to the stretch of layout along the front of the tracks that I have been working on. Here are a few additional photos of the progress, probably the last.

That now leaves me with this 11" x 4" space left over to do something with. I'll be thinking about it for a while.

I did some other stuff that I don't remember and I ran a few trains in order to get that diesel lash-up into the picture.
Tom O - Good luck with the new house. Seems like it's needed. My driver's ed teacher's other job was quarterback for the New York Jets, Mike Taliaferro. He was their starter until Joe Namath came along.
Curt - I have gotten used to the power windows and door locks, as my Honda Civics have had them since 1989.
Chad - That "engine off" at stop lights may save gas, but how often does the starter need replacing?
Tony - I am also an advocate of cell phone blocking in moving vehicles. I drove over 1 million miles just commuting to and from work over 43 years. Add to that vacation trips etc and I might have 1.5M total by now. My wife hates that I can't hold a conversation with her while I am driving.
Everyone have a great Sunday.
That is a Ford XL.Terry, what is that? It looks like a Ford.
USAA did something almost like this a couple of years ago. Except it used an 'app' on the phone. We decided to give it a go as we never speed. Trouble with that was you had to kill the app when it was your turn to sleep ( 10 hours in the bunk ). Don't even think of touching your phone if you are the one driving; and if you were not driving you would get notifications of cell phone use if you forgot to kill the app. To much of a PITA, so we junked it. USAA raised our insurance about 15%. Took a lot of bi tching and explaining to get it back to normal. Speed was not the problem, it was the phone in hand and projected 225K Miles a year that they targeted.About eight years ago or so a friend of mine got an offer from his auto insurance company to save some money on his policy. The deal was they send you a gadget to plug into your OBD port, drive your car as you normally would for 60 days. At the end of 60 days you would mail the gadget back to the insurance company. The gadget recorded ALL your driving habits, but mostly speed and mileage. He and his wife had three vehicles, one of which was not driven very much at all. He plugged the gadget into the OBD port on that car and in the end received a discount on his insurance premium.
However, one of his single friends that liked to "hot rod" a bit plugged the gadget into his car. After 60 days he mailed in the gadget and within 10 days his insurance was cancelled.
This little trick didn't last but about 6 months before consumers caught on to the insurance companies little ruse to actually "thin out the herd".
Curt, I don't know, they could be C&O cars.Louis- Good looking passenger train. Are those C&O cars attached to the front end power? Growing up Dad had a 4-door Galaxy 500.
Just about all us feel that way about our cars. You yungins plumb missed out on greatest couple of decades of monster cars. Or yachts as we called them. Some of you had some really cool cars to drive!!!
Bet some of you wish you still had them.
