Welcome back!!!Good afternoon all. Just back after a few days in Amsterdam and Antwerp. Really enjoyable.
I spent 45 minutes near Amsterdam Central Station. A variety of trains to see.

No one that I knew of wanted to work out of Selkirk. 100 car freight trains 12 hours a day. Everyone wanted the round trip to Grand Central and back home in 5 hours. Of course you had to have 25 years of seniority to hold the job.Interesting locomotive consist at Selkirk, NY. GP9B in the middle.
Welcome back!!!
Troy, how long have you been dealing with the plantar faciitis? I've been going on 2 years now and 2 weeks ago I got a second opinion from a different podiatrist and he thinks its "medial & lateral plantar nerve entrapment". I have several different arch support insoles I use throuout the day but it doesnt seem to help. What has worked for you? I have NOT tried staying off my feet for a week as that aint my style, but I'm giving it some thought now.The real question about shoes/no shoes...
Why not allow shoes in the house?
In my case, plantar fasciitis makes it painful for me to walk without arch support.
when I know ahead of time, I'll bring indoor sandals, or Crocs that don't cause me issues.
But, other than "Being a cultural issue" I've never understood why
Troy, you can keep your shoes on in my house. You get a medical exemption.Well, howdy there internet peeps, and those without shoes.
It's "Slippers" Troy again. Took me a while but I found a pair with enough arch support to be usable through the day. They do have a hard plastic sole on them, so I can do some patio sitting with them as well.
Asking again: Why the no-shoes inside rule?
I'm happy to respect it, especially if you give me warning to bring over "inside shoes" like the slippers or a pair of Crocs for the support I need. We recently (November) visited friends of Japanese heritage who had such a rule. That was on our trip to Vegas. Their entire house was hard floor with a throw rug or two, so it wasn't to protect the carpet from wear.
In that case, I suspect it was part of their cultural influence. But, I'm curious as to the why behind the rule?

I'm not buying the health thing unless you already have a chronic condition (like Asthma). That which does not kill me makes me stronger. OK, I admit that's not always he case, but I believe if I purposefully avoid allergens, then I am more prone to be affected by them when I am exposed. I mean... one of the oldest known treatments for allergies is to expose yourself to the allergens in a controlled manner so your body can get more used to them.
I'm not saying we should rub dirt on a fresh wound, but I do believe that if we avoid allergens, we are doomed to always be allergic.

First day on the job, as a student Fireman / Hostler at Wilmington Engine Terminal, in December 1967, I got to run the 4800. The very first unassisted move on the railroad, moving the very first GG1.Good morning, Everybody!
